Final Round of the Condorcet Poll: Best Prince Songs Never Released As Prince Songs On Albums Or Singles-Final Results

UPDATE: The poll is now closed. click here to see the results:

Hi there:

So we arrived at the finals of the outtakes/associated artists' songs polling! wink

After the three qualifying rounds, in which 90 songs competed against each other, I have opened the last poll, which includes 31 songs: the 10 that ranked higher in each poll (actually, 11 in the second poll because two of them ended up tied at number 10).

The results of this poll will be very interesting: the 30 unreleased/released by associated artists favourite Prince songs, as voted by the fans in prince.org! So have your say! wink

The poll will remain opened for 4 days, until Saturday.

And remember that you don't need to know all the songs to vote. Just leave the ones you don't know tied at the last place.

I liked doing this poll because it gave me an opportunity to listen to some great songs I hadn't heard before, but which other orgers regard as among his very best. So I found it to be quite a useful exercise, and I'm grateful to Javi for seeing it through.

The results as they look right now are very surprising, especially the one at the bottom and other top songs usually voted highly by fans.

When the number of voters in a poll is small, you can get anomalies. We'll see what it looks like when the final results are available.

Javi and I have been discussing a methodology for the final rounds of polling that might make the final polls more accurate notwithstanding the small number of voters in some of the individual polls. There will be a separate thread to discuss that methodology before the first round of final polling is opened.

The poll is now closed.

"Empty Room" has won, and therefore can be considered the favourite Prince outtake of his fans in prince.org.

The song has ranked high since the beginning of the poll. To me, it's a surprise that it has won above many fan favourites.

However, my guess is that the song is now fashionable due to the famous Montreux DVD performance. This release has been one of the most discussed news among Prince fans lately. Actually, orger Marco81 conducted a poll of the performances of the DVD, and "Empty Room" was the winner; see the results here: http://prince.org/msg/7/369389

Also, the DVD has resulted in more Prince fans actually knowing the song, and maybe this has been an advantage for the song.

Of course, this is just a guess. Should it be true, the context would have influenced the results. This would happen anytime the poll was conducted, so there's nothing wrong about it.

Anyway, we've finally had 25 votes, so thanks for participating!

I agree with you about "Empty Room." I wasn't familiar with the song until I voted in these polls, although I probably heard it at some point. These polls are capturing a moment in time. Maybe in a few years someone could repeat the experiment to see if tastes change as new stuff (both official and unoffical) gets released. But, for now, I think we're doing well to have gotten this far! And thanks again Javi for all your work.

It's hard to believe we got through all these individual polls and are now ready to determine the overall best Prince songs by combining the results. Javi has asked me to start the discussion thread on the methodology for the final rounds, and I will do that soon.
