Condorcet Album Poll: Purple Rain - Final Results Available

Update: This poll has now closed. For the final results, click here:

http://www.cs.cornell.edu...thm=runoff

This is the next installment in a series of polls ranking the songs on each album officially released by Prince or O+>. My goal is to determine which tracks should be included in a final poll to determine the overall top 25 Prince songs in the opinion of his fans.

For those of you who haven’t been following my polls, these are different than the usual “best song” threads in that they combine the preferences of all the voters into an overall list.

I am going through these in the same order that they were ranked in my earlier poll of the best Prince albums. Next up is Purple Rain, ranked #2 in that poll.

This shouldn’t take much time to complete. Only nine songs to rank, and you probably know them all by heart. So please vote!

Please don’t discuss the preliminary results or campaign for your favorite song(s) until the poll is closed. I plan to close the poll on June 7, but I may close it early if the preliminary results are discussed on this site. This is to make sure the poll is as accurate as possible.

Also, if you haven't yet, please nominate your favorite Prince songs that were not released on Prince's albums or singles here:

Thanks!

This poll particular was an great reminder of how great each and every track is. Almost every track is a number one in my book.

My choices were nearly opposite of the current results. I can't believe people really go for those songs first. Zzzzz.

Up to 23 votes now. Thanks to everyone who voted, and for not reporting the preliminary results. I hope I can keep this going longer than the SOTT poll...

Same here. Inverse vote.

99% of my posts are ironic. Maybe this post sides with the other 1%.

Here are the final results:

1. When Doves Cry (Condorcet winner: wins contests with all other choices)
2. Tied:
The Beautiful Ones loses to When Doves Cry by 23–18
Purple Rain loses to When Doves Cry by 28–14
4. Tied:
Let’s Go Crazy loses to When Doves Cry by 32–10, loses to The Beautiful Ones by 24–18
Computer Blue loses to When Doves Cry by 24–17, loses to The Beautiful Ones by 26–17
6. Darling Nikki loses to When Doves Cry by 30–12, loses to Let’s Go Crazy by 25–16
7. I Would Die 4 U loses to When Doves Cry by 32–9, loses to Darling Nikki by 23–18
8. Baby I’m A Star loses to When Doves Cry by 36–6, loses to I Would Die 4 U by 28–14
9. Take Me With U loses to When Doves Cry by 38–5, loses to Baby I’m A Star by 21–18

There was a lot of turnover between the top three songs: for a few hours "The Beautiful Ones" ranked #1. The last two songs, however, were at the bottom pretty much throughout the poll.

Feel free to discuss the results if you are so inclined, since the poll is now closed. I will start the 1999 poll soon.
