May 10-May 16: Moonstar319's "Why is a Raven Like a Writing Desk?" Mix - http://8tracks.com/moonst...iting-desk Discussion Thread - http://prince.org/msg/8/336024 Logistics * Feb. 8 through May 17, 2010, one orger will launch their mixtape on 8tracks.com (or some comparably user-friendly and legal* alternative site) each Monday. * Mixtapes will bear a title and feature a maximum of 10 songs chosen along a theme of the orger's choice. * On his/her assigned Monday, the weekly orger will post a thread here in Music:Non-Prince that'll have a link to their mixtape and some "liner notes" to their set -- the hows, the whys, the WTHs, optional art, and perhaps a bit on what the selected compilation means to them. On these threads, other orgers are invited to offer responses, impressions and reviews of the collections. And remember: We do this for fun and love of sharing music, so while we encourage substantive dialogue and critique, let's keep this in a good spirit, folks. * To provide a consistent go-to spot for us all, I'll keep this master thread updated to reflect any changes in our game plan and to provide links to the mixtape thread of the week. * We settled on a 15-week cycle, and thanks to great enthusiasm we got an awesome lineup of mixtape providers, 2/3 of whom are first-timers! If you've missed out on grabbing a slot this round, by all means please still contribute to the mixtape discussions. Any and all orgers are invited to chime in, and it really is more fun with greater participation. Also, keep your eyes on this thread: I'm saving a queue of orgers who got beat to the punch, but are still expressing they'd like to share mixtapes. In the case of dropouts, we will need backups! Lastly, be on the lookout beyond May -- my hunch is there'll be enough interest to warrant a Round 3 soon. Background With gratitude to old-school orger and original Mixtape Project points man HamsterHuey , we were left with a historic commission: "Our love of Prince brought us to this site, but our limitless love for all music made us regulars in this forum ... On a thread lamenting the almost lost art of mixtapes, (http://prince.org/msg/8/270434) we came up with the idea of putting together a project: Send each other mixtapes and discuss them on the Org!" -HamsterHuey Amen! Thus, Round 1 of the Org Mixtape Project ran July-Nov '08. It was GREAT fun, with musical styles and artists -- both obscure and widely known -- that allowed us to better know our fellow orgers, challenged us to explore new sounds, moved us to think, perhaps put us to sleep, and inspired us to shake our butts! (See a recap of Round 1 here: http://prince.org/msg/8/287058 ) Round 2 seeks to pick up on that energy. *Legal Ramblings We ain't trying to finance any lawyers' kids' college education -- much less call eternal perdition upon our beloved org -- so we choose music streaming sites that do not facilitate theft of copyrighted material. Moreover, we don't endorse the distribution of hard copies of this material. What certain heathens arrange in private is entirely on them. ...Thanks for joining us. See y'all in the discussion threads. [Edited 5/17/10 9:18am] Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

I'm way backlogged with these, but I just listed to Harlepolis' mix. Wow is all I can say. It was so reaffirming to my spirit that I want to put it on again. Great job, Harlepolis! I want to say that "Afro Disco Beat" was my favorite. Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! Let'a celebrate his legacy by counting down the most beloved Prince albums, as decided by you! | |
