ORG MIXTAPE PROJECT: TheKidsGirl presents...'So You're Not Eve White?' http://8tracks.com/thekid...-eve-white So you're not Eve White? ....OK, you wanna hear it again? ...I am not Mrs White. My name is Eve Black. The inspiration for this mix came from one of my favorite classic films The Three Faces of Eve (1957). In it, the meek, mild-mannered, and overly accomodating main character Eve White suffers from multiple personality disorder. Her alter-ego Eve Black who is brash, bold, wild, irresponsible and overall the opposite of Eve White gradually emerges and turns Eve White's world upside down. I chose this as a theme, not only because I love the film, but also because as a bit of an Eve White-type myself, I can relate to feeling repressed and a bit inhibited by my own insecurities...All of us nice gals have an inner Eve Black though, and the songs here make me think of mine Sassy, aggressive, unapologetic, bold, a bit gritty sometimes, but definitely sexy. (Remember though: This mixtape was only inspired by the movie, whether by subject matter or sound) I hope you enjoy it! TRACKLIST 1. "Black Betty" (from Kudu's 2006 album Death of the Party ) - From one of my favorite albums of this decade, I thought this track would best get this mix off to the right start. The music is really heavy sounding to me (whatever that means) and the harmonica effect adds a nice touch I think. I always imagine Betty as a badass broad out with a score to settle. 2. "Kiss Kiss Kill Kill" (from the Horrorpops' 2008 album Kiss Kiss Kill Kill ) - The bass, Patricia's voice, the subject matter, the aggressive sound...This song just had to be on here. It had the vibe I was going for and seemed perfect for keeping the momentum going. 3. "I Just Want to Make Love to You (from Etta James' 1961 album At Last! ) - Yeah umm, Etta wants your man...and while you're not looking, she's gonna take him. Sorry . I love how rough and aggressive her vocals are here, and paired with those horns. I feel like she is grabbing this unsuspecting fella by the balls and dragging him behind the bar to have her way with him. Rawr! 4. "I get Cravings" (from Lamya's 2002 album Learning From Falling ) - Wow. There really is not enough I can say about Lamya's debut (and tragically final) album. I fell in love with it the day I brought it home, having never heard of her before, only knowing that she had been called "the Kenyan Björk". This is still my favorite track off of the album, with the international influences in the song giving it a very sexy and spiraling vibe to me. She truely is an artist, I really wish could have been around longer to share more of her gifts with us . 5. "Dirty Pool" (from Stevie Ray Vaughan's 1983 album Texas Flood ) - WTH should I say? This man's guitar playing speaks for it's self! This song is so grimy, it makes me picture a very sexy woman walking into a dark pool hall full of men, and taking them for all they've got. Then she glides right out the door leaves them with broken hearts and empty pockects. Glorious. 6. "Human Fly" (from Nouvelle Vague's 2006 album Bande à Part ) - Okay, so I have gotten flack for this, but I am going to say it...I honestly like this cover of the song better than The Cramps original version. Her slowed down, whispery vocal performance, paired with the caberet like keys give this song a surprisingly seductive sound! It's like a completely different song really. I love this one. 7. "Do I Move You?" (from Nina Simone's Anthology which was released in 2003) - With the help of some just some piano, drums and a harmonica Nina Simone takes that molasses voice and absolutely seduces you in under 3 minutes. Whew, yeah this song makes me want a cigarette. 8. "Jesus Doesn't Love Me Anymore (from Dragonette's 2008 album Galore ) - Alright, I am sorry in advance for the sharp left turn from the last song , but I didn't want this mix to end out so mellow, so I figured this was a good time to perk you up with this fun little song! Drugs, sex, and rock'n'roll coupled with a warning that Jesus doesn't love you anymore, all with a nice bouncy beat going in the backroud...Pure bliss, right? 9. "You Could have Both" (from The Long Blondes' 2006 album Someone to Drive You Home ) - I could (and have) listened to this track repeatedly. ... A jaded woman willing to share another woman's man without a care. Sometimes I wish I could be a woman like this...Not necessarily some man's side chick, but a woman with a more "fuck it" attitude. The line, "I don't kid myself about happy endings, I'm too old for that now" pretty much says it all. 10. "Ciao, Baby" (from theStart's 2007 album Ciao, Baby ) - Amazingly I found this album in a $1 bin at my favorite local music place because the case was cracked. It turned out to be one of the best cd purchased I made of the decade . I adore how she sings the verses like she's holding something back, I can't explain it. I've been dying to end a mix with this song and it just felt like it fit just right on this one. If you will, so will I

I love the theme of the tape. It works for me; all the songs are gripping and cinematic, so I think your objective was reached, at least in my case. Great mixtapes make me wanna make mixtapes of my own, so yours is a great one; it plays as an album and kept me listening. And now I wanna do one again. I am gonna play it some more as soon as you got that link for me! (grin) >>

Great theme! Great selection of songs too!
I suppose choosing the actual song "Eve White/Eve Black" was too obvious?

I suppose choosing the actual song "Eve White/Eve Black" was too obvious? You and I think on the same wavelength. Considered putting this song on there, but I thought that was too literal. I was going to tell you, but alas hesitated. If you will, so will I

I wasn't sure if I was going to like this because I'd never heard of almost any of these artists I usually recognize of few on other orgers' mixtapes. The only artists I recognized were Etta and Nina and I hadn't heard of those songs before. You also made the songs sound so interesting.
And girrrrl, I love this mix. I love how these songs fit together so well. I like how even though this is so completely different than what I usually listen to, I still love it a lot. I bet I would love raiding your iPod. Oh and I lurrve the cover [Edited 3/29/10 19:55pm] I graduated bitches!!! 12-19-09

You all have really overwhelmed me!
I'm really honored that you've come here and checked out my mix (I put a lot of though into it). It means even MORE to me that most of you are actually enjoying it too! All of these artists are PHENOMENAL in my opinion, and it makes me happy to be able to introduce some of you to them for the first time. If you will, so will I
