Ok:
1) we can see the cop is white from the video - so mentioning he's white is not some revelation or attempt at baiting.
2) why aren't you also asking about JT's mention of the girl's race?
3) perhaps it's important to note race because ....just maybe....the whole incident might have had a different outcome if the cop and girl had been of the same ethnic extraction **cough** racial group or even the same gender/sex.
Le't be honest and realistic shall we? the history between minority groups and police officers has not been all diamonds and pearls... to borrow my man's song title. Hell...the justice system has not been entirely fair and balanced with respect to minority groups; that's just the history of America. When people see violent or tense interactions between cops and pedestrians/citizens and there is a gender or race difference....it will weigh heavily in some people's minds...maybe most people. Should it weigh heavily? That's for each individual to decide.
There's nothing wrong with asking questions:
Would the cop have treated her that way if she were white and/or male. Would the girl have fought back if the cop were female and/or black? Would the cop have bothered to ticket her if she were a white blonde chick with big boobs or an old white lady with a cane? Would the cop bother with a ticket if it were a man in military fatiques jaywalking?
Whatever happened or didn't happen between the cop and that girl....at least dialogue has continued and change shall be iminent. Hopefully. | |
