U forgot to mention that noone forgot about the smash, blockbuster, hit album "Black Messiah". That was number #1 on the charts for months. From an artist that was gone from the industry for almost TWO DECADES. rolleyes

EBONY: What made you decide to move your catalog to Tidal and away from the other streaming services, and why is HitNRun about to be exclusively available on Tidal?

Prince: Tidal is a new company, it’s brand new. They’re just getting their footing, and I think when there’s a company like that, or the OWN network—situations where we finally get into a position to run things—we all should help. It’s been a lot of fun.

We’ve changed the format of how our music appears. Where it would normally say “RELATED” and have a bunch of random stuff pop up—I love D’Angelo but he’s just getting started, he came way after—what we did is we changed that to INFLUENCES. Then all these black and white pictures come up and you can go back and look at all the people who influenced me. Then in each one of those situations, Tidal allowed us to go and work on those pages.

[Edited 8/29/15 13:02pm]

The underlined actually sounds like a good feature--if the artists really do take some interest in making sure those "influences" are accurate, it might be a nice thing.

Not something to make me choose that service over another, but still something that might be interesting.

allmusic.com has a similar feature. For example:

The fact that the only way you can 'praise' this shitty remix is by tearing down another artist speaks volumes about how shitty it truly is.

Why not say what makes this a Ma$+3rp eye 3c3 rather than just going after D'angelo?

Maybe because you can't, because maybe it's just not that good.

[Edited 8/29/15 5:06am]

That remark was aimed 4 a particular person who knows who they r.

prince delivering "TCBU(remix)" is a brilliant move! Getting the curious fans to join Tidal b4 the album release. Without revealing the AMAZING new tracks on "HitnRun"... Is a CLASSIC MEGA anticipation move!!!

I got it from Itunes, so I guess the 'Tidal Xclusiv3' didn't get fans to join after all.

Respectfully - I disagree. Hardrocklover is a solid Prince track. TCBU screams of amateur tinkering in the studio. How many whooshes and vocal repeats can we endure? If I were a Tidal subscriber, TCBU Remix would make me question my membership, and certainly does nothing to make me want to join. There is nothing MEGA about that song unless you follow the word with "disappointment." Blech.

'Amateur tinkering' is exactly what I thought.

It sounds like something fan made. (With the exception of the guitar, I guess.)

I downloaded 'Sweeter Bitter' by 1st Vows at the same time, it actually sounds like what Prince was trying for only done well. (Guitar solo included.)

I think it's wonderful Prince is winning over a new generation of fans! This is just the type of song I can show to my girlfriend to get her hooked on Prince.

He seems to be appealing to today's youth, which hopefully leads to a resurgence in his fame.

Love the clarity of the vibrato on his vocals in this version.

Ugh, I had to interupt my listening of Voodoo by D'Angelo (the greatest album by anyone ever wink ) to have a listen and see what you were talking about. There's one I've got on Work It 2.0 called We Can Funk 6# that is 10:25, could that be the one you're refering to?

[Edited 8/29/15 13:28pm]

The WCF #6 I have has George singing and 6:44 length.

The longest version I have is 10:05, not 10:25. peace

Is it the one with thelong moody instrumental section in the second half of the song? Love it! One og is best.

I just joined this party. Yes or no: should I buy this off iTunes now or just wait for the CD? I'm depending on you people.

Also -- and completely unrelated -- but wouldn't it be awesome if Jack Nicholson was asked to kick off a NASCAR race using his Joker voice? "Gentleman, let's start our engines. Lawrence!"

Whatever people say in response to your question--the true answer is "I don't know know." Since we don't have a tracklist and no definite word on whether it would be on a CD (if one actually comes). Of course, you also don't know how long the single track will be available for purchase...

So, do whatever you want... if it doesn't work out, oh well. Just part of trying to follow Prince...

that said, it's only a week now until the Tidal debut. Maybe answers will come.

Thanks. And good point. For all we know it could easily disappear back into the ether at any given time. But from my first listen at the snippet . . . sounds kinda "muddy" and disjointed. I may just wait this one out. The joy of being a Prince fan.

Lol this is much more interesting than the real subject of the real thread. I would double check right now but I'm listening to Funkadelic so I'm not about to interrupt that razz But yeah, as far as I can tell the one I have is 10:25 and is solo Prince. I'll have a listen after I've finished Not Just Knee Deep to confirm that (George Clinton is a god!)

If the 'moody instrumental' kicks in around the 6:00 minute mark, yes.

Luv it, 2oo.

I think its interesting Prince's team is making this music and pandering to the new generation of kids that believe computers are superior to actual musicianship. Just keep remixing and one will stick eventually.

I thought the vocal was the same? Honestly I haven't listened to it, waiting for the album. Cool name though. headache

Exactly I am sure his deal with Tidal gives him opportunity to move single songs around on other platforms. They are so stuck on CDs that they cannot see how win win this is for Prince and how so few other artist have this control over distrubution of their music. I am beginning to think that people on this board think artist should get the quarter of penney for streaming and continue to put out music on a dying format. When are some of you going to get clue.

Dear zealots,

Back when records still existed and I was working in a company that produced them,
there was this funny clause on a standard artist contract that mentioned

"physical and digital supports, present or yet to be invented".

Now I would buy Prince's music under the form of pills,
subcutaneous injections or purple farts,
if only it was at least surprising.
Originality would be terrific, but plain good pop/funk/rock/whatever-skipper craftsmanship would do.

I would rather have a failed attempt instead of this kind of shy, zero-risk, useless rehash.

I really don't think we naysayers are concerned with the music's support,
even if, in the case of the aforementioned "washing powder" streaming service,
some stains remain.

The emperor needs new clothes. I'll give you that.
