Finally downloaded this on iTunes.

Utterly pointless. How can HARDROCKLOVER be on the same album as this? It's like Jughead was the second single on an album after When Doves Cry.

*disclaimer - that was a bit of a dramatic comparison, but you get my drift.

I've took a long break from this site and now that Prince is active again, i finally feel i can come back feeling refreshed and ready to be positive thinking once again.

Ok....so, after hearing this song.....

What a complete TIDAL wave of SHIT!!! Utterly embarrassing!!! Hannah is ridiculous for describing the album as experimental and for the Prince die-hards.....the idiot has no clue!!! Well, clearly, she spends all her days worshipping imaginary friends in skies.

But damn!! This is just shocking. Embarrassing production and trend following nonsense.

......It's good to be back.

The fact that the only way you can 'praise' this shitty remix is by tearing down another artist speaks volumes about how shitty it truly is.

Why not say what makes this a Ma$+3rp eye 3c3 rather than just going after D'angelo?

Maybe because you can't, because maybe it's just not that good.

People who have heard the song before may appreciate having an alternate mix of it, but I find it really hard to believe that anyone who isn't already a Prince fan is going to hear this version & think 'Hey! I want to hear that again!' or 'I want to know more about this guy!'

It SOUNDS MUCH BETTER in my iTunes tracklist on my iPhone now that I've downloaded via GooglePlay. You have to listen to Prince albums in context. I will now rescind and reserve judgment until I hear all of HitNRun — sitting with my cat in my lap with all the lights off in my crib.

Tidal SUCKS. I feel suckered/bamboozled for even listening to it and subscribing. Don't do it. You were warned.

[Edited 8/28/15 14:51pm]

I know Tidal needs an upgrade. But I don't see what's so terrible with it. It's the only streaming service almost that gives a little back to the artists, and more of your money is going towards what you're listening to. All streaming services needs an upgrade when it comes to the logarithm they are using. However I find Tidal to be best so far. Spotify just has more available albums because they pay record companies huge advances. Guess who is actually paying for these advances... you are.

indie artists earns $0,043 pr stream on Tidal ($0,007 on Spotify)

As I stated, I heard it once and it stuck in my head. In a good way.

that's good. Other people liking it is not an argument for me to like it too, though. And because i don't like it doesn't mean that you shouldn't like it either. If you enjoy it, right on.

thumbs up!

That's the beauty of music. And art. And literature.
It's all subjective.

My comment was not intended to be antagonistic, just pointing out that in spite of the fact that it may be "cliche'd" or "trying hard to be cool", it's a liked track...one which hit me in a positive way right off the boat (unlike most of his recent work which I have to make a conscious effort to listen to and gain an appreciation for).

As for Erik319: the "most people" that I am referring to are all the non-diehard fans (which I already excluded) who posted positive reviews and "likes" in all of the Facebook threads that I came across when this track came out.

music

...for the record, I appreciate criticism of Prince's work. I myself have been very critical as of late. This particular track I liked right from the get-go. It was - I dunno - refreshing. I'm not saying that it's Adore or The Beautiful Ones...but it's a good remix of that song.

BTW - does anyone know why it was dropped from iTunes??? confuse

I logged on yesterday and tried to purchase it on iTunes, but it didn't take. I thought maybe my phone was acting up. So I logged onto iTunes on my PC today and it's not there anymore. Only the official AOA version.

I just tried Amazon and no luck.

I found it on Google Play and bought it there.

Respectfully - I disagree. Hardrocklover is a solid Prince track. TCBU screams of amateur tinkering in the studio. How many whooshes and vocal repeats can we endure? If I were a Tidal subscriber, TCBU Remix would make me question my membership, and certainly does nothing to make me want to join. There is nothing MEGA about that song unless you follow the word with "disappointment." Blech.

The version on AOA (which I think is a pretty solid Prince track) could have gone to #1 on every chart there is. That wouldn't change my opinion of this butcher job of a remix. This thing should have been track 4 on a remix/outtake EP after AOA, not a showcase single for a new album. Whooooosh th th th th th this could b b b b b be us - just awful.

The key word is "minor." Well, also "forget" because sadly Prince and the rest of the world forgot about AOA. And they'll quickly forget about the MEGA l3Td0wN that SHITNRUNS will be.

U forgot to mention that noone forgot about the smash, blockbuster, hit album "Black Messiah". That was number #1 on the charts for months. From an artist that was gone from the industry for almost TWO DECADES. rolleyes

EBONY: What made you decide to move your catalog to Tidal and away from the other streaming services, and why is HitNRun about to be exclusively available on Tidal?

Prince: Tidal is a new company, it’s brand new. They’re just getting their footing, and I think when there’s a company like that, or the OWN network—situations where we finally get into a position to run things—we all should help. It’s been a lot of fun.

We’ve changed the format of how our music appears. Where it would normally say “RELATED” and have a bunch of random stuff pop up—I love D’Angelo but he’s just getting started, he came way after—what we did is we changed that to INFLUENCES. Then all these black and white pictures come up and you can go back and look at all the people who influenced me. Then in each one of those situations, Tidal allowed us to go and work on those pages.

KS--I know it's a fun parody of the title--but what if the album turns out better than that suggests? You already had AOA come out better than you'd expected... what if it happens again?

And yes, KCOOL--it managed to become a minor RnB radio hit, like hundreds of worthless tracks every year. That alone doesn't mean anything at all, and certainly doesn't justify revisiting it if (as apparently is the case) the man (or his assistant) doesn't have anything interesting to do with it.

The underlined actually sounds like a good feature--if the artists really do take some interest in making sure those "influences" are accurate, it might be a nice thing.

Not something to make me choose that service over another, but still something that might be interesting.

That's totally possible. I have a thread about being less excited than ever before about a new Prince. But in that thread I also fully admit that I could be surprised. The quality of the album is unknown, but is at this point unrelated to my lack of excitement. One of the theories I proposed about my lack of excitement was that I still feel burned by Prince ignoring AOA, which I still continue to enjoy very much. I listened to it today, in fact.

I bought TCBU (remix) from Amazon and I think it didn't need to exist... but it's not unlistenable and I'll have it on repeat under the right circumstances/mood.

I hope Prince ditches the alll-caps of AOA & PE with HitNRun.
