Prince-related news: Ceiling at First Avenue in Minneapolis just partially collapsed According to multiple reports, First Avenue has experienced a partial collapse of the Mainroom’s interior ceiling.
Both the Mainroom, which was hosting Theory of a Deadman, and the Entry, which was hosting What Tyrants and Stereo Confession, have been evacuated. Injured victims are being treated on site, reports the Minneapolis Fire Department via Twitter. We will update this post as more information becomes available. Well sad to say but this is going to officially close this place, mainly because of lawsuits because looking at that cieiling i can bet there are violations up the wazoo in that place, very sad. Just thinking how I've seen Prince at First Ave in 1982, 1983, 1984, 1986, 1987 and 2007!! First show i saw there was the Ramones in 1980. I have a ticket to see D'Angelo there next month. I sure hope they get it all repaired quick!! | |

I played either the main room or 7th St Entry at least 6 times. It's one of the greatest places to play or go to a gig in the whole USA. | |

Holy crap, I hope nobody got seriously hurt. If the place does get shut down just because of this, it will be a huge shame as I imagine the venue is a big tourist spot, being famous an all. Maybe they will think twice about shutting it down because of money loss. | |

Jack White bailed out one of our local older Detroit music venues, The Masonic Temple. He paid almost 150K in back taxes to keep them open. It was done anonymously, but the newspapers eventually figured out who it was. . Paul McCartney also saved a famous Steinway piano from Motown by paying to have it shipped and restored. . So, it's not unheard of for a musician to lend a helping hand. I'm sure there are other stories out there of generosity. Maybe Prince will help out, we'll see. He might do it anonymously and we'll never know...
