I've been all over the place with this. I knew I would like this version better than the original based on the snippet. But I also figured I'd be let down by the full version.

At the end of the day, I enjoyed the new energy this version brings. At the same time, I'm a little saddened to say that my favorite version of this song was done by Rae Sremmurd.

this ain't a patch on the original. It shoulda been made as a new song because theres some interesting sounds. Unfortunately they are ruined by inserting the vocal track of an existing song without, it seems, any reason at all. I get the feeling this experimental album is going to be an experiment in energy degradation. Are Prince and Josh able to create high energy, high tempo music at all? I hope we have enough on the album to raise a pulse. AOA was great, but it did suffer by being pretty slow. If this next one is as slow then the tunes need to be top drawer... So far I haven't heard anything from the same cabinet, let alone the top drawer. Mediocrity isn't going to keep this fans attention, not this time.

I agree this should have been made as a new song instead with new vocals and lyrics, then I would have appreciate it more. Well I still like the remix but prefer the original

Too many Josh for my liking.
Pathetic attempt aiming (very poorly) at FKA Twigs in the first seconds, and them aims at nothing.

I can't stand it when there's Skipper's voice popping out every second.
It gets me nausea.

This is the aural hallucination that comes to a coked up yuppie while listening the AOA original,
persuaded he's on top of the world.
What an ugly stock Piano/Strings sound.
The drum pattern is non-existent.

Worst of all, what an ugly way to remind us of this eighties infamy, the beat-breaker effects.
The "us-us-us-us-us" is something that would never get past the mixing process, on any studio on the planet : the producer would ditch it on the spot. But in Princeland®, it ends on the final master.

This is par with the ugliest things he's done in the nineties for his side-acts.

It's a demo for a side-act.
Two chords, some reversed effect, and voilà. Another poop from Prince.

If it's on the album, we have a skipper.

i cant believe so many supposed fans are making such a BIG DEAL over a reworked bonus track that is going to be included on a new release....i think that its a very clever way to tie the new music in with AOA... some that will hear this version may not even know of the previous version....there is still some life in that project if attention is brought to it...however these producers and record promoters here...too much a-do about nothing.

Um, yeah. About as clever as when school lunch ladies serve last week's steak as this week's sloppy joes. Real fucking clever.

Nothing in this song is as bad as the grammar and syntax in that person's post though.

To me, the whole endeavor just seems pointless. Like others have said, it aint nothing but an unnecessary remix of a song that wasn't much of a great shake to start with. TCBU was already one of the slow spots on an otherwise pretty solid record. If Prince wanted to remix something, why not build on the structure of a song like, say, "The Gold Standard"? A tune that could use a better bottom end and could actually beneift from a little more work?

I'm not sure what gem of a track Prince thinks he's "polishing" here is what I mean. And I'm genuinely baffled in what manner he thinks that doing so is going to generate any sort of pre-release hype or interest. We've heard him do this sort of song 100 times. He might have well have let Josh have a go at and apply a mix to better ballads like "Scandalous" or "Damn U". It may have ruined those tracks, for sure, but at least they were something special to begin with.

"Too many Josh" is cracking me the fuck up.

I heard this version at Paisley Park back in April. The way Hannah was hyping this song, I guess I don't know what I was expecting, but not this. That same night they played remixes of CLOUDS, FIXURLIFEUP, PRETZELBODYLOGIC, AND BOYTROUBLE. That crap better not be on this album. I'll take REVELATION though.

I'm digging the guitar solo, so, there's that.

Another "guitar solo"... bored

Well, do you want him to be Prince or not?

Ha! This is where we differ, my friend.

The Skipper I Adore is the one who chooses a clean slate over tracing paper.
I was very sad and disappointed when he disbanded The Revolution, but it brought to The Music SOTT and Lovesexy.

He needs someone like Clare Fischer, an alter-ego, not a buttons pusher.
Have him call Andy Wallace and/or Butch Vig and/or Dave Grohl if he wants to do "PlectrumElectrum" :
you'll get your Rolling Stone's four stars.

Have him call Pharrell, Me'Shell (have him apologize like shit) and Kayne West
if he wants to do AOA (Josh's version is nothing but very good demos and base tracks
of what would have turned into an Album Of The Year
with more months of refinement and scrutiny).

He just got too chicken with time, that's all.
And apparently begs us to scream "cut the bullshit!".

May I prefer the '98 "Hey! Fran-say!" chant from "Love Thy Will Be Done"?
You can hear all his losses in it.
And his victory is just him knowing how to sing and how to play.
It's a big "thank you' sung to his fans, not the vocoded gratuitous "thank you"
that ruins the end of "The Dawn pt. II", which is a studio masterpiece.

This new version is, as Sir Paul McCartney would put it, for no one.

There's so much bullshite in this post I don't even know where to begin.. wink

Bonatoc, your complete hatred of this remix and simultaneous love of the original is, um, a site to behold ... and truly perplexing. The original, imo, was 1 of the bottom 3 songs on AOA. Yawn, what a boring, repetitive snoozer. This remix is one of the best Prince songs in the past 5 years -- interesting playing with the chords, nice guitar solo. The only weak moment is the "us-us-us" part, I'll give you that.

But even more perplexing is this list that you posted as homages to Philly sound:

- Pink Cashmere
- The Most Beautiful Girl In The World
- Cherry Cherry
- Betcha By Golly Wow!

(Plus TCBU original)

?!?!
PC is pure Prince, no Philly sound to me other than falsetto
TMBGIW is light pop, with a little R&B, no Philly sound
CC is a Philly homage, yes
BBGW is a cover, so, sure, an homage of some kind

TCBU original is a 15 second idea for a song, repeated about 20 times.

According to who heard If I Could Get Your Attention at Paisley Park, it was Prince on vocals

I heard it and Prince was on lead vocals. I didn't notice Taja in the background.

It's funny you mention the Rae Sremmurd song...I don't think it's coincidence that he comes out with a song named the same as Prince's song with the same hook.

I was wondering, if any one else had heard the Sremmurd tune.

I searched within iTunes, found the album version...

y'know, I already have this because I know how to use the internet. But, I like supporting Prince by buying his releases. I'll try again later today, but, sure would be great if he made it easier to buy his music. just sayin'....

I figure since it shows up searching itunes on the web it'll show up in "View in iTunes" soon enough.

Or, maybe by then I won't care since I already have it and it's going to be on the album anyway.
