You're back! Groan.

I responded to this comment earlier, and still think that the guy puts himself in a delicate position as both 'moderator' and 'paticipator.' Surely, this must be an obvious contradiction to anyone who values balance.

It makes no sense to me, but then that wouldn't be out of the ordinary on a thread such as this.

I suppose he's walking on a tight rope, but if anybody can walk that line it's Anxiety. Besides, this is a website loosely dedicated to Prince not a California Senate seat we're talking about. smile

At least we know how high you regard prince.org!

So this New Yorker reporter went to interview Prince NOT on his music but on his views on social issues (abortion / gay views), how he keeps his house and his style of dress? Celestial??? what's that?

Obviously she was not there to get his music message to his fan base but rather was there to turn and twist his views and to make a name for herself. Her 30 minutes of fame. Before this no one knew who she was. Selfish dare I say.

I only wish people can really see this for themselves.

What is up with the reporter callin him a 50 year old. Doesn't she know she is the presence of sexiness. He is not just a 50 year old man...
But I did think it was funny that she said he padded in the kitchen LOL that is funny!

I thought that was odd. I don't think she ask a single question om his music. How do you interview a musican without asking a question about about his music?

the only naive person here is you comfort, you fail to realize that republicans and democrats are not that much different...their fundamental differences lie in government spending, separation of church and state, and war profiteering or um excuse me "national security". everything else like jobs, education and healthcare, competing in a global market - the things that matter to the average joe and jane, are quite similar. your beloved republicans are mostly, not entirely, but mostly responsible for the nasty state of affairs the US is in and that's why we now will have a Dem for president and a Dem controlled congress. And unlike republicans, Dems more often than not, practice what they preach be it right or wrong. Republicans like to just preach and play holier than thou then go hang out in a closet...hint hint biggrin

I don't deny that you have the right to an opinion. I just say that it's invalid because it doesn't involve critical thought on your behalf. Someone has told you, in the past, that your beliefs are the right ones (a pastor, family member, whatever) and you believed them unquestioningly. Therefore, it's not right to take you seriously. Sorry...

It's like an evolutionist refusing to debate a Creationist....its useless because no matter how much evidence an evolutionist puts forth, a creationist will always say that this too, is the will of God. This is just a childish argument and that, my friend, is real ignorance.

Deep down, you know you hate those who don't think like you -especially fags-because what they do is disgusting (although we do know that some homophobes have some kind of latent homesexuality within them to). However, you want to feel like an 'enlightened religious person' so have to tell yourself that you love them to.. But this isn't how you feel. Admit it...your God won't let you. And, by the way, even if I was wrong and you do feel that way, respecting others began as a secular value not a religious one.

I hate to say this but it strikes me that you've never read any of the arguments against your position, ever. How's that for ignorance?

PS. Oh yeah…normal people talks about folks like you too. wink

Sure. Right.

I think you need to understand that there's a difference between a publicist and a journalist. They're two very different things. Stop maligning this journalist for doing her job. And by the way, I think she made a name for herself in her profession through her work with Rolling Stone and the New York Times and her work as a journalism professor. She didn't use Prince for anything.

And the reference is "15 minutes of fame." Not 30.

Well.. Everyone is getting mad about his quote about gay marriages. It looks like he didn't have a quote. According to the interviewer, she/he, whoever, tried to ask about gay marriage and abortion and he just pointed to the Bible and made a quote about God, not the issues.

Excuse me, I do know the diff between a publicist and a journalist. What is the use of interviewing a musician if not for the music he puts out / going to put out. confuse I don't think Prince invited her to share his views on views on social issues (abortion / gay rights) or his manner of dress or the layout of his home.
I gave her the extra 15 minutes she seems so desperate. sad

Apparently, you don't know the difference. A publicist is someone you pay to talk about the things you want people to know about you. A journalist asks a variety of questions. This journalist did her job. If Prince didn't want to talk about social issues, he simply needed to say, "No comment." Really, it's not a complicated process. And not talk about his home, the place where the interview was taking place? She shouldn't describe the setting? The scene? You should read some interviews with people. Pick up some reputable magazines, some magazines that have higher journalistic standards than, say, Teen Beat. It'll do you good.

Your definition of a publicist is incorrect, you need to read up a bit more.

This journalist did NOT do her job. She does not mention one word about his music (whether good or bad) ... about the NY show (whether good or bad) or his book or the music in his book (whether good or bad). Her interview was quite negative infact almost mockery (note her caricature of him).

I wonder if she had interviewed the Rolling Stones or Aerosmith she would have come back with the same deductions hmmm or would she consider them "REAL" musicians.

So why did he carry on with the interview then? Why didn't he say to her 'Actually, I'm only here to discuss the music and/or the latest project'?

IF those now legendary words/implications were his, then he shouldn't have bothered responding from the moment the questions came out of the journalist's lips.

But if they weren't his words/implications (and I really, really hope they weren't), then this publication has created an article which has completely defamed his character (as can be seen by the responses on the web) by telling lies and misquotes.
So why hasn't Prince, who's middle name appears to be 'Sue', not started any legal proceedings yet?
If it were anybody else high-profile who'd been mis-quoted in an article that made them look like they looked down on one particular part of society, they'd be on the case straight away, making official, first-hand statements and trying to put things right.

So why have we yet to hear of any action?

That's all he has to do in order to bring back my faith in him. Prove that this was a misquote by having the balls to sue for defamation of character.

Pacific Foods ORGANIC makes CARROT CASHEW GINGER soup and it's DELICIOUS. They make Butternut Squash and Creamy Tomato also. People wonder why PRINCE does what he does and MYSELF being a FAN for IONS sometimes BELIEVES it is for CONTROVERSY Or just like a PUNK to PISS PEOPLE OFF. I TRULY BELIEVE PRINCE DARES 2 B DIFFERENT and DOESN'T GIVE A HOOT WITH HIS COMMENTS WHO HE OFFENDS AT TIMES. Actually, I don't think it's to OFFEND ANYONE Just his VIEWS. If Prince can't say what he wants cause it is NOT what One EXPECTS well then how can you really be his FAN? MUST PRINCE share each fans VIEWS?

Seriously, read a magazine sometime. It'll help you understand what you're trying to talk about here. Try a few issues of The New Yorker. It has a lot of interesting things in it. Their reporters interview people and ask them things. Then they write about it. You might like it! It's kind of a cool thing. Sometimes, people are interested in what celebrities think about things that are going on in the world. (For examples of this, just read any magazine. You can't miss 'em. They're everywhere.) Also note that when celebrities say the wrong thing, their publicists go to work to try to fix the problem, because they're paid to try to make their clients look good and to get good publicity for them.

Also, just read the second paragraph of Claire Hoffman's interview with Prince and you'll see that she did indeed mentnion his book. And in the fourth paragraph, she talks about his music.

Claire Hoffman got some interesting quotes out of Prince and she was a smart enough journalist to include them in the interview. Obviously, her instincts were right, because she wrote a good story that got people talking.

I just know in the last 30 years of giving or not giving interviews he has not once voiced his opinions on gay rights or abortion rights... He only talks of his music.
