PRINCE NEW YORKER ARTICLE FULL OF MISQUOTES!!!!
Posted in Celebrity News on November 17th, 2008 by drfunkenberry
We were just sent this:

Prince did an interview with the New Yorker recently and it is CHOCK full of misquotes!!

The reporter was not allowed to use a tape recorder, and so paraphrased nearly everything.

We are told the parts qbout religion are especially misquoted.

Prince never said “God came to earth and saw people sticking it wherever and doing it with whatever and he just cleared it it out. He was like “enough”. Those are the WRITERS words, not Prince’s.

Next time, there will be a tape recorder. (Eye roll)

We want to thank Prince’s people for clearing that up.-Dr.FB

Were there any other parts?

Next time, there will be a tape recorder.

This is why journalists like to use a tape recorder and a notepad, two things that Prince has for years not allowed. It is, of course, very easy to pretend you didn't say something you were quoted as saying if there's no recording of the event, which is probably why Prince doesn't allow them. Will there really be a tape recorder next time?

In this particular case, the New Yorker writer is a veteran journalist and a journalism professor. I trust the accuracy of her quotes and believe Prince said what she quotes him as saying.

Clearing what up? Issuing a statement that clearly explains how Prince really feels about gay marriage would clear it up.

and after that, it would be -call me crazy- nice to read an interview with
prince where he actually talked about music and songs again. not religious
narratives spun out of thin air when asked about songs like "guitar", lol.

but than again, perhaps there won't be too many people left to read stuff
like that once the dust settles on one more rolleyes worthy move by prince.

I call bullsh*t Funkenberry. I'll believe it when Prince comes forward personally and states his true opinion. Besides we all know Prince won't allow tape recorders anyway.

Prince doesn't agree to the homosexual lifestyle, he's always been skeptical of it and now that he's a JW he clearly doesn't side wit it.

And you're authorized to speak for him how? Aren't you just painting him further into the misquoted corner he's already in?

What I was pointing out is this: People who complain about being misquoted usually explain what they actually said as a way of clearing things up. Prince didn't do that. If he wants to clear things up, then he shouldn't just throw the journalist under the bus and hope that scapegoating her will distract people from how he really feels.

We all know that Prince is/can be a bit of a wanker. Just cause he's a musical genius doesn't mean he's very intelligent or open in other areas.

We can still dig the music

I really wish he just didnt bother.
Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

I was one of the first to say how disturbing that article is on the other thread. However, how do you know he didn't talk about music? The interviewer was probably there for at least an hour (sounds like a few) - they most likely also talked about music but she chose not to include it.

Chicken or the egg kinda stuff.

Does religion mess up your brain, or does being messed up in the brain make you seek religion?

when people hit emotional rock bottom they turn to religion.

Has anyone seen a happy well adjusted person suddlenly turn to religion if they otherwise were not. it happens i guess, but the latter is far the most common.

Prince definately fits the standard messed up in the head and turns to religion club. Big big club

Nope. Religion is the equivalent of a quick fix. It seems to be helping at first, but soon one has to deal with reality.

yeah i'll belive this when prince makes his own official clarification and not through some gossip internet rag ..oh wait the internet is a black hole isn't it?
man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

This is going to snowball. Somebody ain't tellin the truth & I don't know if its the newspaper reporter or Prince (sorry fam, love ya much but just keeping it real). I would REALLY like Prince to speak for himself or make a formal statement to clear the air. I know Prince has had a love/hate relationship with the media, but at this point & age in his life he's a grown ass man. The smoke & mirrors are cool for a state performance, but when will he feel comfortable being "real" with the fans who've stayed down for over 30 years...bikini draws & all...Brotha Nelson, its time to speak up for yourself. We'll respect you more for it.

lol, for a man who supports himself, and has earned quite a bit of money from the gay community, who has even made vague implications that he too may be gay, that the whole outside world other than fams think he himself is gay, he sure put his little high heal boot in his mouth,...lol,
But who cares really? It’s just Prince. Do any of you think he should make sense? And if so, why now?, why so late in his life?

Good luck with your next concert in Frisco,
