I don't remember. I saw someone else referring to it on one of the related threads in the last couple of days--they said possibly 3 tracks. And I think one of them's supposed to be Way Back Home.

I have no idea, and like I said, it all sounds like Prince to me.

I could imagine Art Official Cage and Funk N Roll having less P input. Way Back Home would really surprise me though.

Nope, it was said that WAY BACK HOME was all Josh.

I agree--it seems very Prince-y to me. I suspect he's often more of an engineer or a software man for Prince than a co-producer. Which is why I doubt that Josh deserves a whole lot of credit or blame for AOA.

By who?

Josh made a remark "there are songs on the album where he (Prince) doesn't play a note". This was IIRC a comment about "U Know". Since the song is built entirely from the Mila J track. A first for Prince. It's possible that it was also in reference to Affirmation I, II & III. I'm speculating as to the tracks because as far as I know, there were no specific titles given.

I would suggest all the modern sounding synths on AOA is Josh and/or his influence. The song itself I'd be pretty surprised if it wasn't a Prince song. Also seems like this song would have fit perfectly in some movie about a little purple alien trying to make his way back home...

No one here has a clue how much money he has. What if he invested the money from the tour in stocks that went downhill? We've had a big fionancial crisis a couple years later. A lot of rich folks lost a lot of money then. Have you ever heard about it?

Also his private company endeavors....

What about NPGMC and similar enterprises?

His websites? CD mailorder?

. What about that 80 million he earned in 2004? If he is as cheap as some people say he may have money under his mattress.

So, the interest in this album so far has been pretty much on the way it's being released as opposed to the actual album itself... Tragic.

So is it safe to say that since the announcement of the way it was going to be released, this is the most disinterested fans have been of a new album's actual content since the Org began?

From a personal level, I don't even give a monkeys to read the tracklist right now, given that I won't be able to get an official 'play-when-I-want-forever' copy on its release date. And it appears that the only way I can officially listen to this album for more than a month is by subsidising somebody else's failing business.

Wow!

Wow!

The Org is not the confederation of Prince fans and I'd say that the upset meter is rather revealing considering so many who claim to despise his recent output take the time to throw a fit.

headbang It'll be here before ya know it and we can rock. Yes the mystery and drama is so exciting and negative of course, as expected, as usual that its almost dull to indulge but in a few weeks its a new album! The other exclusive albums are all welcome additions to the collection.
.
My interest in the album is some new tunes. Period. Hope he delivers (he will). A good tune is hard to find. All the fuss over singles and what not, a new album every few years proves musically he is as constant and consistent as ever. He is truly a wonder isn't he?

Rita Ora Was Distracted By Live Doves During Prince Studio Session

By WENN in Music / Festivals on 13 August 2015

The Black Widow hitmaker admits she was stunned to receive an invitation to collaborate with Prince, although she didn't quite believe the Purple Rain icon was on the other end of the call when she first answered the phone.

She says, "Obviously, being from London, I thought it was either Prince or (Prince) Harry, either one, I'm not picky, I'll take either, or! And it was Prince...!"

The pair bonded during their first meeting over a game of ping pong in London, and Ora then flew out to visit the reclusive musician at his estate in Minneapolis, Minnesota last year (14) to work on a track for his next album, and she reveals she was in awe of the whole experience.

She recalls, "We went to Minneapolis, Paisley Park. Walked in (and) it was literally like a Prince museum: ornaments, the motorbike from Purple Rain (movie)... And then he has doves in there...! It was surreal. It was a whole week of just surreal music-ness juice (sic)."

However, Ora confesses the doves were a strange distraction during the studio session.

She continues, "It was so funny though, because I just kept hearing (doves cooing) and I'm like, 'These doves are really making noises! Everyone looks at them like they're angelic and gorgeous and there's just doves in the studio. I just found it really amazing."

The tune the two stars recorded together is expected to feature on Prince's upcoming album HitNRun, which will be released exclusively on Jay Z's music streaming service Tidal from 7 September (15).

I wonder if this plan for the album has been in the works for a while then with Jay-Z?

They recorded this some time ago and just happens that she's a Roc Nation artist?

Again, he collaborated with Rihanna too who is.... a Roc Nation artist?

Things are starting to add up. lol

It would be crazy if it really was only on Tidal for as long as few years.

I can undedrstand him putting it on Tidal, but not other streaming services because he feels that Tidal offers a better deal for artists than other streaming services.

But digital downloads and physical sales offer artists better deals than Tidal.

Dr Dre's Compton album is a Apple Music exclusive, but only in advance of it being available to buy.

So I tink its fine for time limited exclusives or something exclusive to one streaming service, but also available to buy.

But literally exclusive to one streaming service and unavailable anywhere else? The only loser there is the consumer, because we're not about to sign up to multiple streaming services just to hear a few albums by different artists we like.

In this brand new age one way to guarantee lower album sales (via download or hard copy) is to release it first exclusively through streaming -- even if only for a short period of time. Not all of us are honest enough to buy it even after first getting it by other methods.

Honesty ain't got a THING to do with buying anything here. If people are dumb enough to buy a subscription to a service to hear Prince's new album, that's on them. He made the deal its up to us to deal with it.

Lol. Prince is pushing 60 and has been in this game for 40 years, it's amazing that he has any shred of relevancy left. The music biz is for teens. These HOF artists came out with P. Bart wouldn't answer, but which career would you trade for Prince? Tom Petty ACDC Elvis Costello Jackson Browne Bob Seger Sting ZZ Top Pretenders U2 Blonde REM Van Halen Patti Smith

You left out Bruce Springsteen. I'm not a fan, but he counts. Also David Bowie and, to some extent, Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Rush, the Beastie Boys, the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, the Dead, and even MJ, even though he's dead now.

"Way Back Home", per Princevault:
Stringenius - Strings

Josh - unidentified instruments

Lianne La Havas - vocals
Delilah - background vocals
Prince - all vocals and instruments, except where noted (assumed)

Assumed? I think it's very possible Prince only contributed vocals to this track. I don't care either way, but I just think it's cool that he's letting go of the reigns just a little bit these days. It certainly worked well with the Revolution. smile

That's pretty much useless. Princevault tends to put the same credit for Prince on almost everything (using the crediting of others to indicate that Prince didn't play specific things when someone else's contribution is known) and the credit to Josh tells us nothing about Josh except that he (probably) played something.

Again, is there any statement from within the Prince camp that Josh is responsible for Way Back Home, either in its entirety or in large part?

I know I saw it somewhere--it might have been a report of such a tweet. But if there was such a tweet that was later deleted, I wonder why it was deleted. Was it inaccurate? I remember that in the Yahoo special there was talk about Josh being very involved in tracks, at this extremely high level of involvement, but I think it was with regard to some unreleased snippets. Or with no real specifics concerning the AOA tracks.

If he did WBH, good for him. But if that's his sound (and it's so Prince-y), then I don't get what he's bringing to the table. Except for a few minor gimmicks (and U Know, which really failed to thrill me, and would have failed to do so even if it were a Prince production musically, since I don't like the music and am unimpressed by the lyrics and vocal), I simply don't see a major change in the more recent Josh-assisted work.

I'm hoping X's Face isn't on it as its nothing special and we've already got it. The more new songs the better but the sound fits so it more than likely will be on there.

I haven't seen a solid statement; only the tweet rumor and such. I was just putting that out there and taking part in one of the org's fave activities: speculating. It's an interesting possibility to me that Prince may not have played any instruments on one or more songs on AOA. That's all I was saying.

My guess would be that even if one or more tracks was all Josh, they will never tell us.
