They should upgrade TIDAL so that there can be the option to buy via download or stream it.

Bwahahahaha. the famz got punked again. They were all over those pathetic tweets mere days ago and they were so sure that this Tidal shit was just going to be a couple of weeks and then it would be on CD or available for download. And I said: you lot still haven't learned from past experiences. But I was an incorregible negativist. And look now!

Does that mean that as far as streaming goes its exclusive to tidal but may still get a physical release during the exclusivity period?

.

You keep using that word, "exclusivity".

Well, this is F'n stupid. Shit, why didnt Price just come out and suggest that everyone prepare to illegally download his next album.

Now that Apple music has launched any contract/promotion outside of their streaming service is like teaching your child Latin.

Spotify will likely be the only other streaming service to survive.

Prince gonna Prince.

I wonder how bad Prince regrets signing back with Warner Bros right now... If I were him, I'd buy a German-Shepherd, give the dog a collar with the name "Warner-Hoe" and send it to WBs... and then ask them a couple weeks later if they liked the gift...

I can hear it now..

"Delivery from PRINCE!"

"Oh! He finally chose to do the remaster! That old scragglyhead, son-of-a !!!" *Attacked by dog*

Yes, it makes sense. WB wants Prince to release what they want him to release, but he doesn't really care.
It was a joke, really.

A Tidal exclusive for a few years? Good lord, what a fail. Aside from being a shitty idea in general, it's also predicated on Tidal existing that long. I'd rather Prince gave away his new albums rolled up in a newspaper like a dog turd again.

Man, Is it really going to matter? Look, we'll all join Tidal for the free trial period the day it's released...all the while waiting for the illegal downloadable version to surface. Once we get that downloaded, all this streaming service exclusivity nonsense will go away. It's actually perfect timing. I'll have access to the music the second it's released, and I'll soon afterwards have a digital copy to listen to in the car (which I'll already be able to do using Tidal and my car's bluetooth connectivity option).

Sure, not the brightest idea he's ever had. But in the grander scheme of things, it's non consequential. We'll have a brand new P album in less then a month. Isn't that the most important thing?

Just my 2 cents...

The reports talk of an exclusive streaming deal with Tidal to go along with a physical release -- saw that on Salon.com this morning, not sure if it's true.

The most hilarious aspect is to see people who are highly dubious about any of his new music get frustrated over this. According to the Purple Smart Pants Brigade here, his music is so crappy that you'd think they'd be overjoyed much of the non-Tidal world won't be exposed to this supposedly quasi-worthless album.

It's something like his 38th release, I think this "fam" will be able to control himself until September.

This is gonna flop sooo hard. The fallout will be entertaining, because we already know how this is gonna end. Jay Z's "Tidal" is gonna be at odds with Prince because he's gonna back out of promoting the album, and Prince is gonna blame Tidal. Like I said before, I'm not gonna give Prince another penny for his mediocre work. He had nerve to demand and up front sum? Damn.......little foots has some nerve.

All this fuss about Tidal.

I guess I might feel the same way but I subscribe to Tidal and love it. Since I started using a streaming service the amout of money I spend on music has reduced massively.

If I were with Spotify I would just cancel and switch.

I'm sure there will be a physical release at a later date. Did the they say it was a none restrictive deal?

Hopefully we'll Get a tracklist soon and another taste and people might started to get more focus on the album.

I can't wait. I love Art Official Age and just have a feeling this will be as good.

Exactly, people who complain Prince hasn't made a good song and album since 1987 and claim they're not going to buy his mediocre work, every day come to this site and stalk his social media page if nothing else to bitch about him to feel better about themselves.

It doesn't matter to me, because I'll get my hands on it one way or another. I would prefer to pay Prince for a copy, but we'll see if that happens. I just think it's another boneheads move that we'll look back on in a few years (or sooner!) and lump together with Lotusflower.com, Crystal Ball pre-orders, and so on.

I wouldn't be so sure. Prince is rich, creatively self-sufficient and used to being an oddity. He may well think that allowing the journos to breath the same air he does is thrilling enough, but if it doesn't, fine. It's not like he hasn't pissed off people before or has not waged a lonely war.

Might even be that some pepple on this site, even those who are always in attack mode, care more about things than he does. Not that surprising, this would be his 38th officially released album and he may have quite a few more "private" albums so he's been on the merry-go-round so many times by now that he may be surprisingly down-to-Earth and matter-of-fact about them. He knows radio is unlikely to give him a big hit, that he's unlikely to move spectacular numbers of albums and that even if that would happen, he'd still make more money touring and licensing his music, or even be hired for one night engagements for a million dollar --- and be pleased as punch.

I don't know him personally but he seems to be at peace with his choices, over fame, over being the biggest and baddest star, over pleasing everyone and over caring if people think he made the right choice or not, because he's happy that he is who he is and can do what he does.

Armchair experts can try to ridicule him by bwahahaha-ing all day long with crass, self-satisfied vulgarity, they may not be getting that the joke is on them as Prince has something far better than being the flavor of the day or the present critic darling, he has one of the fullest, most sprawling legacy anyone could dream of. No amount of flatulent self-perceived superiority from his notoriously negatively fixated perenial critics can take that away from him.

Everything that STREAMS on the itnernet is found all over the place as a free illegal download, this is a stupid idea, just give the thing away at shows if your going to do that. Don't preach you "love to drop the needle" and "vinyl love" and then put out out fucking streams of a "classic album" so you call it.

Lol. Prince is pushing 60 and has been in this game for 40 years, it's amazing that he has any shred of relevancy left. The music biz is for teens. These HOF artists came out with P. Bart wouldn't answer, but which career would you trade for Prince?

Tom Petty
ACDC
Elvis Costello
Jackson Browne
Bob Seger
Sting
ZZ Top
Pretenders

I've just gotta hope that even if the streaming is exclusive, it will also be available as a download and/or physical format at the same time. Please, Prince, have some sense.

Exactly. On the one hand, we want "artists", on the other, we want "commercial success". "visibility" for our faves because we wish others would enjoy the music we find inspiring. At the same time, we don't want our gods and godesses to "sell out" -- cuz if they try too hard to hit it big again, they dumb themselves down and it feels cheap.

So no matter how pirates and buccaneers can get to those streaming files, Prince is acting on a principle here, he's supporting an approach in line with his philosophy, he's doing something courageous, he's being an artist even as his fans complain and Ferguson riots. He's followed his Baltmore words with concrete action and he's being the opposite of a desperate, sell-out artist.

Many don't like it but I say "count your blessings".
