"Way Back Home", per Princevault:
Stringenius - Strings

Josh - unidentified instruments

Lianne La Havas - vocals
Delilah - background vocals
Prince - all vocals and instruments, except where noted (assumed)

Assumed? I think it's very possible Prince only contributed vocals to this track. I don't care either way, but I just think it's cool that he's letting go of the reigns just a little bit these days. It certainly worked well with the Revolution. smile

That's pretty much useless. Princevault tends to put the same credit for Prince on almost everything (using the crediting of others to indicate that Prince didn't play specific things when someone else's contribution is known) and the credit to Josh tells us nothing about Josh except that he (probably) played something.

Again, is there any statement from within the Prince camp that Josh is responsible for Way Back Home, either in its entirety or in large part?

I haven't seen a solid statement; only the tweet rumor and such. I was just putting that out there and taking part in one of the org's fave activities: speculating. It's an interesting possibility to me that Prince may not have played any instruments on one or more songs on AOA. That's all I was saying.

My guess would be that even if one or more tracks was all Josh, they will never tell us.

U know, Way back home, Affirmation, Fixurlifeup remix and Time sounds definitely like Josh

I agree with all those except for Time. Unless you're just meaning various "sounds" in that song and not the actual music. Either way, that song is fantastic. This is when I wish there were actual liner notes, with accurate credits and what not.

the accuracy of credits in Prince's liner notes has always been hit or miss anyway.

Just a "few years"? So in a few years I guess that's when the physical copy will be released? What if there's more albums that are released and/or pulled from Tidal till then?

Hmm

TIDAL ain't gonna last a few years. lol

Do you think Josh adds the synths and atmospheric sounds on the likes of Time, Way Back Home, This Could Be Us, Affirmation III and Hardrocklover?
.
I seem to recall it was Prince who was quoted in an interview when AOA was released praising Josh saying he was 'super talented' and said there was songs on there that he didn't play an instrument on. I can't remember who the interview was with but I do remember he dropped the words 'gold standard' into conversation which made me smile.

Noodled24

^ Josh is almost certainly responsible for the synths.

If you look at the sounds Prince was using on the albums preceeding, the synths were flat and dated sounding. Along came Josh and suddenly there's much more going on. The atmospheric synths on way back home/affirmation III sound like they were taken straight out of a breakbeat track.

The Gold Standard IMO is all on Prince. Musically to me it sounds like it could have come right off Planet Earth or 20Ten. Josh namechecking the song was just to please Prince. Along with his line about how P can "hear the wifi".

I can only guess. My ear isn't as perceptive as some on the org. To me, Time is almost all Prince with maybe some minor contributions by Josh. Unless Josh also did the percussion. But I think Way Back Home/Affirmations could be all Josh and Stringenius. Again, just humble guessing. I'm not a musician.

Gold Standard sounds like 100% Prince. I agree with Noodled24: Josh brings fresh synth and atmospheric sounds while still fitting in with the "Prince sound." In short, without Josh there's no AOA. (Love it or hate it.) I happen to love it. Prince is still going to throw us red meat like Gold Standard and Stare, but I'm also digging Josh's influence on That Skinny Motherfunker with the High Voice.

I agree Gold Standard sounds 100% Prince. I wasn't saying he implied it was Josh, it was just something I remember from the interview - him dropping a song title into the conversation.
.
But yes I also think Josh has brought something new and fresh to P's sound, even tho I'm not so keen on the Fixurlifeup and Funknroll remixes.

Since there doesn't appear to be a physical copy
of HITNRUN being released on Sept. 7th will there
be reviews in the media?
Do reviewers have to sign up with Tidal to get a listen?
Will reviewers be sent cds?
How's this going to work? confused

Exactly. On the one hand, we want "artists", on the other, we want "commercial success". "visibility" for our faves because we wish others would enjoy the music we find inspiring. I feel no need to shoot.

That would give a month exclusive to Tidal before any other availability. Seems reasonable.

If this case is confirmed ....this means one thing....later in 2016 or so Warner will released something much more consistant for what they signed with Prince 1 year & half ago... i don't see other reason than that for the releases of PE -AOA & now HNR....time will tell ?

indeed, i wouldn't be able to think of any other reason for them to release this new album

after a month of streaming on another service, (and after the very low sales of both AOA
and PLEC).

if they are releasing this album in physical format for him, it's almost impossible for me to
think they're doing it for any other reason than they're getting to release remasters in '16,

not just for pr but for all his wbr albums.

Thank you for the confirmation. And moreover, it also seems to be confirmed that there will be more than one album on Tidal...one Prince and one 3rdeyegirl I guess. That is great news!

Yeah but what happens to the download after you cancel the account? It's not going to be an MP3 is it, it's going to be a format tied to Tidal, right?

And that's I guess my concern and what I'm trying to find out. I don't want to be paying $200 a year so I can subscribe to listen to one Prince album. Needles to say it won't come to that as there's ways around it but I've never not paid for a legitimate release.

No. No streaming subscription service works that way. They'd all be out of business overnight. They offer DLs for "offline mode" within the app,

I believe that is true. U can only playba tune downloaded with tidal with tidal. I also believe that once your subscription is over or unpaid, its no longer playable regardless of it having been downloaded.

Just a "few years"? So in a few years I guess that's when the physical copy will be released? What if there's more albums that are released and/or pulled from Tidal till then?

Hmm

If he didn't like Bootleggers before he's going to like them even less so when this drops lol
