Prince has nothing to offer the world because he no longer takes anything from the world. His intellectual curiosity must be running in negative numbers. When you think you hold the eternal truth, brought to you via superstition, and then isolate yourself from society, what could you possibly have to say? How can you write about a world you don’t participate in

This. A thousand times, this.

The same could be said about a fan who hasn't enjoyed anything Prince has done in 17 years. What do you have to offer a fan who has enjoyed his entire career? What are you enlightening us to that we don't already know about(we have the same records as you)? What could you possibly have to say about a world you checked out of in 1995?

When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

Can the pro and con bitchers start a new thread for their repetitive posting`?, cause this is getting repetitive. I understand people raging about how shit this song is are as pro Prince fans as are the ones that say they aren't. So this nonsense.

The question rather is why is Prince releasing a shit song or a gem song such as this at the moment? It doesn't sound like Prince at all.

Prince I will always miss and love U.

Or the fact that I actually read through all of them!

You got to love it when people, are tired of Prince and his outputs yet spend so much time coming on the same board they HATE.

Prince must have a special essence about him, because the same people that dislike his output, constantly travel in the same circle....Without going through the motions...

YES! I yet I can't wait to buy the CD if there is a single. I love this song, and it's Prince doing what he does...MAKE MUSIC! smile

This. A thousand times, this.

He writes about his world. His world is not my world. In fact he has little to say that interests me, inspires me or intrigues me. But I never really listen to lyrics much so it's okay.

So going back to the song... well it's been a few weeks now and I have to say I still like it but...

1. The lyrics (I chose to listen this time) are simplistic to the point of dull,

2. The keyboard stabs are too blatant to not be considered self-plagiarism,

3. His voice is either going or he has no passion for it.

Things I do like about the song are the lack of a chorus, the absence of unneccesary guitar and the very Prince-like bridges he uses throughout. Some have commented that it is perhaps too subtle (I choose my words lightly there) a tune, but I think that as a work in progress it has some beautiful moments. And, yes, Radio2 would play it. It's middle-of-the-day AOR. He's up there with the rest of the dinosaurs now. Rea, Stones, Dylan, Cliff, McCartney, Gilmour, Wonder, Cher and so on.

I'd say I can't believe you actually think the impetus people have for posting on the org is because they think Prince is going to read what they write, but then again, there's a disturbed side of the org, as I pointed out, that thinks exactly this. I take it you're one of them.

And please, keep lifting Prince up with positivity. I'm sure he's reading your posts now and pumping his fist, so glad that a real purple warrior took up the online cross, or is that stauros, to bear. No doubt the resultant fruit of your noble work here will bring us about 20TWELVE sooner than later.

So you say:

I'd say I can't believe you actually think the impetus people have for posting on the org is because they think Prince is going to read what they write,

but then say:

I'm sure he's reading your posts now

Make your mind up, is he watching or not? It was only the other day you were saying you thought Prince referenced you when he sung about walking into Walls on No More Candy 4 U, so who's showing the disturbed side now?

I'd like to point out am not a sycophant either. I was one of the people who complained about Extralovable 2011 being butchery of a classic and about 20TEN (after Lotusflow3r which i really liked). The difference being I base my judgements on the music, not a personal hatred or a sweeping statement like everything since 1995 is bad which is patently not true. If some of his 'new' songs came out back on an album back in the 80s or 90s you'd probably like them. Age seems to elevate the quality of the 'new' songs in people's minds.

I remember people in 1995 being a bit lukewarm about The Gold Experience, now (rightly so) it's seen as a classic.

This. A thousand times, this.

So let me get this straight? Because Prince believes he has the eternal truth, he has nothing more to say? Sounds very outlandish to me. His 'belief' has something to do with his output, but not 100%. Also, it's obvious celebrities in general have to isolate themselves from society because their lives are not like yours...THEY are still human and they still share the functions we all go through day by day, but the medium is overwhelmingly different...AND to answer 'Wall'. "How can you write about a world you don't participate in?"

I like to think you can write about anything based on your knowledge of the world, you possibly once participated in. Prince has done many things, and he has pushed the envelope many, many times. The dude even wore ass-less pants, do you really think he has not participated in the world? Hahaha

I can list so many points in how Prince has participated in the world. Now he has selected a different approach, he does not participate as he once did...he doesn't believe he is apart of the world. Now society is a different measure. For as long as I remember; people close to Prince feel he has never really 'Fitted' in society. How do you measure society, and how do you measure the world? Before you answer that; consider Prince has been in the game since he was 18. While, that does not make him better than you, it surely gives him more experience, training, and knowledge of things you (And I0 really have a small understanding about. Now curiosity is of course a different ball game as well..but I would think at some point in your life...After exploring so many sounds in the universe..There is one particular sound one gravitates to...Prince is on his own sound, you either like it or not. YOU have every reason to give you opinion though! Just as we are as well! smile

I dunno. Seems like someone can listen to a song once, decide they don't like it, make a comment on it, and then move on. I guess that's too reasonable. shrug I listened to the new Prince song a couple of times and I don't love it or hate it--I simply am not that invested in it one way or the other. It's a song. Turn it off and never listen to it again if you don't like it.

Some of these posts on here you'd swear Prince ran over your dog and took a shit on your mother!

The level of attention given to something you don't like is too over the top.

There's easily a hundred of Prince's songs I don't listen to/don't like and they don't make want to rant on the internet endlessly. They just don't factor into my life.

I'd rather devote the energy to the songs I do like.

falloff

imagine that. a black van stops in front of your house. couple of big dudes get out,

knock on your door and go "we brought you the new prince".

you stutter "but i don't like it, i've heard it online, i hate it!"

they just hold you down, tie you to a chair, put headphones on you and then they

just go have a rummage through your fridge and play some cards in the kitchen,

as you sit strapped to the chair, forced to listen to the new prince with headphones

on and the volume up to 10.

lol

people would be all "oh jeez, prince just released a new single, time to put up the

hurricane shutters again"

and true love lives on lollipops and crisps
