If this piece of laughable trash doesn't convince you he's got nothing left in the tank, then I've got a cd-r of the Chocolate Invasion I'd love to sell you.

Utterly void of inspiration or purpose, this is what music from a 60 year old Jehovah's Witness sounds like. A generic title and tune. Pass.

And how pathetic is it that he's had to resort to the Purple Rain font?

Prince should thank Jehovah there's money in sentiment, because if it wasn't for him playing Purple Rain for the billionth time, he would be as relevant as a street musician. Pathetic.

No hard feelings.

I'm always glad to hear new Prince music, but i cannot help being disappointed. You would think that someone of Prince's talent would be able to release something more inspiring after his long break. He just doesn't seem to have the drive to experiment or push himself anymore.

I guess this song has finally made me realise that the old Prince truly isn't coming back. sad

I wouldn't count him out just yet...

I would. For years I kept thinking that he'd pull something out of the bag. But for someone who used to be able to write and record When Doves Cry and Thieves in the Temple in one day, if he can only produce a song that is worthy for a b-side after such a long break, there really is no hope. I'm resigned to that idea now.

The song isn't horrible but I think its time to open the vault and let some of it out. I've been around for a long while, heard of the vault forever but am beginning to wonder if there really is one or if what's in it is so great after all.

I really liked this second time I listened.it grows on you and its so obvious that its aimed at those desperate for some 1980's glory days. This ain't quite 1980's but its going in the right direction.

you can still have a discerning ear without being able to play one note of music.

I'm not disputing that. Hearing something you like or dislike about a song is one thing. Claiming to be able to improve upon any song if it's broken down for you into layers for you to rebuild is hubris. If your talents are such that you can vastly improve other artists work then where is your own art for us to judge? Also why do you need their base track to build off of? I've read on this site countless times orgers telling Prince what he needs to add or take out of his music yet none of these orgers are touring the globe playing us their hits and selling out arenas after 30 years in the game. I'm not saying everything Prince makes is great but it's his music for us to either take or leave.

I totally agree with you here SIR! You're an HONEST MAN! smile

Speaking the truth in such a way wherin we can't possibly deny it's existence! I especially agree in the bolded part. You are SO true!

I really don't know what is the most surprising?

The overall predictable opinions on Prince that many orger's have.....

Or the fact that I actually read through all of them!

These are the Sign O' The Times!

You got to love it when people, are tired of Prince and his outputs yet spend so much time coming on the same board they HATE.

Prince must have a special essence about him, because the same people that dislike his output, constantly travel in the same circle....Without going through the motions...

YES! I yet I can't wait to buy the CD if there is a single. I love this song, and it's Prince doing what he does...MAKE MUSIC! smile

I heard this on the radio the other day, and it sounded great. My friend was surprised it was Prince. This is a friend I have known for years, and played a lot of Prince for. Maybe this could be a sleeper hit for Prince. It would be nice for him to have a new song on the radio again.

I sort of warmed up to "Cause & Effet" after repeated listens and "Purple & Gold" was at least an attempt to do something different. But I still think this is as poor a song as he has ever done. I must have listened to it 20-30 times and I just don't think it works on any level, really. Not as rock'n'roll, not as pop, not as a throwback to Purple Rain era type of production techniques or as anything really. Sort of weird, because the bits and pieces I've heard of the Andy Allo album suggest that the production on it is a lot nicer.

First of all, u know damn well that Prince is 54 yrs old, and second, fans are just too fickle. When Prince was giving fans different music, they whined about him not doing enough of the old stuff like Purple Rain, because they loved it so much, and now when he gives them the music they claim to love, they still whine and complain. I can see why Prince treats the fans the way he does sometimes, because they can be a pain, and u are the prime example!

I only got 3/4 of the way through, you get the idea after the first middling minute--a boring, trite beat, with daft lyrics, repeat a few times, then fade. But to Prince's credit, I didn't hear anything that sounded like another failed attempt at retreading his 80's sound, just another sleep inducing plopper. How was anyone reminded of his long gone glory days from this adult contemporary snooze fest? Because it has a synth? You people are more desperate than Prince trying to craft a pop song.

This boring dud wouldn't even make your local supermarket's playlist.

Prince has nothing to offer the world because he no longer takes anything from the world. His intellectual curiosity must be running in negative numbers. When you think you hold the eternal truth, brought to you via superstition, and then isolate yourself from society, what could you possibly have to say? How can you write about a world you don’t participate in?

Well, one way is to repeat the same, tired, old shit. Prince is old enough to be a grandfather, yet his lyrics sound like they were pulled from the diary of a 14 year old girl, after her first life-changing viewing of Twilight. And if it's not more laughable "we got a real connection" bullshit, it's his other area of expertise, religious babble that makes him sound dumber by the minute. There's no bigger colonized mind than Prince. "Here's a pamphlet, baby brutha." "Duh, I guess I believe."

The best career move Prince could make would be to put down the microphone and just release instrumentals. He's definitely a great player, and while I doubt he's got anything in him but a competent release, at least the saccharine/psycho religious lyrics would be done away with.

No hard feelings.

So you've only listened to 3/4's of it and you're making sweeping judgements.

Have you even listened to it more than once? I can tell you it's definately a grower. I really like it now.

Even songs from his 80s prime I recall required a few listens before you actually 'like them'.

Try using your ears before you use your knees in jerk reactions....

And try to change the boring, negative, uninspired posts that you keep making, you're doing worse that what you accuse Prince of.

It's not worth you or people like you (BVH for example) getting yourself worked up into a fit-like state over this. The anger only hurts you, you both need to learn acceptance and stop denying the reality of Prince. He is what he is.

Do you think Prince will change just because of what you said? NO, he will not, he doesn't like negativity as we know.

So start doing something constructive instead, perhaps by channelling all your energy into producing something at the kind of level you think Prince should be doing....show how it can be done if you're so sure it can be done better...

You're more delusional than Prince if you think his latest pop-lite tune is anything but expected, or that anyone would become angry over a terrible pop song. Don't project some wild-eyed fanatic archetype onto my posts, I gave up on Prince in 1995, and don't expect anything out of him at this point beyond a passable funk jam. If you can't handle a critical opinion, do move along.

And of course I don't expect my opinion to reach Prince, nor do I give a shit if it does. Unlike the majority of the org, I don't live in a delusional fantasy where I think some faded pop star is going to read my post and react to it. Go outside. Kick a ball around. But whatever you do, get a fucking clue. Jesus Christ.

Edit--Finally, the song is so bland and redundant, you only need listen to the opening verse and you've heard the entire thing.

Clearly you didn't gave up on Prince in 1995 or else you wouldn't be spilling your vitriol on this forum. You obviously do expect more than a passable funk jam otherwise you wouldn't be so rabid with rage over this song.

I don't live in a delusional fantasy where I think some faded pop star is going to read my post and react to it.

Really? You seem to be in a delusional fantasy that 'some faded pop star' is going to come out with another Purple Rain LOL. If you really think P isn't reading then why bother posting at all? What are you hoping to acheive? Make other people angry too?

Go outside. Kick a ball around. But whatever you do, get a fucking clue. Jesus Christ.

Yes, I would suggest you take your own advice. Perhaps channeling your energies to Jesus Christ would be a more worthy use of your time.

You only need to hear the opening verse and you've heard the entire thing.

Clearly, the opening verse is not the 'entire thing' as it's the opening verse.

Your penance for making idiotic posts is to listen to it a further 10 times and review then.

I'd say I can't believe you actually think the impetus people have for posting on the org is because they think Prince is going to read what they write, but then again, there's a disturbed side of the org, as I pointed out, that thinks exactly this. I take it you're one of them.

And please, keep lifting Prince up with positivity. I'm sure he's reading your posts now and pumping his fist, so glad that a real purple warrior took up the online cross, or is that stauros, to bear. ummm to be frank, I downloaded this song when? Is it a week now? I listened once, thought it was laughable, few days later I listened again cause I felt desperate for new music, and really tried to like it, but I just can't. The lyrics remind me of the AA cheese, and I don't even think this song is meant to be for orgers to listen. I think the target is out there, the public, and I am looking forward to see the first reactions.

Maybe, people will think it's as good as Purple Rain? As for me; I have no plans to listen to that song again, maybe next year.

Prince is more advanced in setting future music trends. He knows what's ahead with music, for the music future, things we can hardly know unless you are really in the field, and you are a music genius. Maybe he's ahead of us, the untrained music people. He must have an idea, a plan for that sorta lame song to release, maybe we just don't know yet..

Maybe he doesn't wanna release good music, cause the current lame music that is out there doesn't deserve good music. Maybe this song shows his frustration, and it's just lame analog to the shit music that is out there in the charts etc.

Maybe he's trying to make a point.

Okay I'll give you that. Then where are all of these great acts produced by orgers that we should be mindblown by?
