" i think he was going for a sly stone vibe but with a lite conservative christian house band .. the kind of music that would bring jehova witness to tears but might put the rest of us to sleep .. for the forward poltical themes there is not much fire in the belly on these recordings .. ultimately a fun listen that reminds me of the song "forever" which i didn't love at first but grew on me but still remains a bit tame .. anyway .. not sure if any of these songs are truly keepers but still an interesting listen

Well,Sam Jennings was asked by Prince to work on the packaging for TRC 2, so I'm assuming there was at least a rough tracklist.

pure conjecture on my part here but I would think that either TRC 2 evolved into "Last December" - the album mentioned in the ONA tour book, or the other way around "Last December -> TRC2".


if that is the case, it would be pretty safe to say it was a project that was more than just a couple
of songs, but something he'd been working on/thinking about for a little while at least.

what else could this "Last December" album be, other than a continuation on the same road he'd
turned into with TRC?

it would be interesting if Sam Jennings can remember the approx date when he was asked to do
artwork for TRC2.

very very interested right here about anything post-TRC/pre-MUSICOLOGY other than the (great)
instrumental albums and EP we got during that time.

After a few weeks of listening to this album, I have grown to like it even more.

A few songs that I thought were clunkers (like Check The Record) have also grown on me.

Agreed that some of the songs sound like they're missing "something" - but still enjoyable. I don't want a blistering guitar solo on every track, but this album could use 1 or 2 songs like that.

Not that this has anything to do with W2A but I always wondered why Parade was pretty much bereft of guitar solos or guitar focused songs. I've stopped listening to W2A for now. Not because I don't like it - I actually do. I'm still waiting on my vinyl and want to experience it that way instead of just listening to it via iTunes.

Just got my W2A boxset but had to go to the post office and collect it. The lady I sometimes deal with at the post office is usually a bit surly in the morning. Never smiles or says hello. Maybe she doesn't have her V-8 until later in the day.

Anyway, I paid the duty and all that but on my way out the door she yells,"Enjoy Prince!". I guess she can't be that bad.

Boxset is gorgeous. Expensive but lots to look at. Also got the W2A 7 inch.

Wish I could get into this, but I just can't. I prefer every album released within 5 years of when this was recorded by quite some distance. I like the idea of a complete album (though this just sounds like it was compiled based on one of a few CDRs floating around) being released all the same, but yeah, there's nothing here that stands out as special, IMO. Maybe 6 songs I'd rate a 7/10, but there are a few clunkers in there as well.

I am enjoying it, but I get what you are saying...there are no outstanding tracks. IMO, there are quite a few GOOD tracks and it flows well, but it doesn't have that one or two songs that wows me, unlike releases after this. I still hate Hot Summer.

Morris Hayes mentions that, for his additional work, he used Prince's stereo mixes from a CD (CD-R, I guess?) and imported those stereo mixes onto his computer to add his parts. Most of the tracks Morris worked on (all except one, if I understand correctly) are not mixed from the multitracks, but from the stereo mixes from Prince + the additional tracks from Morris. At some point, Morris had to actually rip those CD-Rs on his computer (at his home!) and it's that rip that we hear on the final mixes including Morris' parts.

So, yeah, it could be an explanation for why we hear ripping artifacts on some of the tracks. But not "Stand Up And B Strong", as Morris didn't work on that song...

Something doesn't make sense because I can't imagine it's that hard to migrate Morris's parts onto the multi tracks. With today's computer recording techniques, you can literally do anything. Maybe the multi tracks are damaged and they had no choice but to use the cd-r.

Morris would likely have a DAW file with Prince's stereo master, along with his own seperated tracks.

It seems that W2A is trending on Discogs again. All formats too. It's not a numerical chart but two of the formats are "Top Ten".
