WELCOME 2 AMERICA: RELEASE DATE 07/30/21 -PT II

(PART I see: https://prince.org/msg/7/466419)

since there wasn't any official thread about the album that's still open, I figured we could use a new one, in anticipation of the release, just 18 days from now.

so far we've heard:

WELCOME 2 AMERICA and BORN 2 DIE as singles released by the estate.

we've also heard:

HOT SUMMER and SAME PAGE, DIFFERENT BOOK as released by prince himself

and we've heard versions of:

1000 LIGHT YEARS AWAY and WHEN SHE COMES as released on HITNRUN2

do you think there will be another track previewed before the release of the album?

what do you think of the album so far?

and what are you looking forward to, the most?

for me, it's the last 3 songs since I don't know anything about them and it will be so amazing to hear a couple of newish prince songs in sequence for the first time in ages.

Sirius/XM has been playing a release from the upcoming concert DVD; I didn't catch the title.

Welcome to "the org", laytonian… come bathe with me.

I'm really looking forward to hearing the whole album.

Some reviews soon would be good to read.

So far I don't think much of it. Jazzy soul that he's done countless times before. Nice to hear, but nothing special.
If you take any of this seriously, you're a bigger fool than I am.

I hear ya. I'm not extremely excited about it either but I do still love Prince's later output, including albums like 20Ten so I'm happy we will get some 'new' music for a change. And so I'm looking forward to listening to this album a lot, this summer. Just enjoying hearing his voice on songs I've never heard before.

I'm looking forward to it. Don't care about any more singles, I won't listen if they release one. I'm going to wait now and listen to the album and hear them in sequence.

RIP sad

I'm looking forward to it because it's brand new. But from what I've heard so far, it's not really my cup of tea and doesn't add to his legacy in an interesting way.

dodger

I thought they would've released a single around his birthday and also thought similar last week after the Rolling Stone article but think they may as well wait now since we're only 2 weeks away.

.

I was most looking forward to Born 2 Die after hearing the preview on CBS, and I really like that and the title track, so looking forward to the other unheard songs now..

Excited for the release, but am trying not to set my expectations too high since I know it probably won't be anything special. The tracks we've gotten so far seem interesting, but far from mindblowing.

Hoping we get at least one more song before July 30th.

First time I think I can say that i'm really excited to hear P do a cover version, after listening to Stand Up and B Strong I think he will blow this out the water like he did with One Of Us,

Mainly I'm waiting to hear the last 3 tracks though all brand new an unheard by the masses in ANY form

Will be great to have 1000 Light Years as a longer singular track too..... fantastic song

Bring on July 30th and fuck the haters

he might have better luck if he was drummin with his Dick!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I completely agree! I cannot wait to hear the purple version of Stand Up And B Strong. Soul Asylum is probably my favourite band and this title could fit perfectly with the Prince catalogue of power pop/rock songs.

lmao Stand Up and B Strong is sung by the girls, according to Elisa in rolling stone

as we all know i'm not stuck in the 80s, but this seems to be getting worse and worse for some of the folks here

side note from this article, big fan of this anecdote

"One night, he was drinking red wine through a straw, and he drove me back to the hotel. It was snowing out like crazy. He had his girlfriend Bria in the front seat. There’s a blizzard, and we’re sliding around the highway. He’s driving and playing back his rehearsal tapes of the day, which he would record, and he’s singing “Purple Rain” to his girlfriend. I’m in the back seat going, “Am I going to die?"

That article was only released today according to the website and I do not subsribe to RS so have not read it! but as much as I would still prefer that he was on lead vox which is apparently not, I'm sure the girls will do a very nice job and P will still shred the guitar

I think it will be similar to albums like Musicology, 3121, Planet Earth and 20Ten but slightly better and I really like the singles Welcome 2 America and Born 2 Die. I'm looking forward to W2A smile

After reading the Interviews in Rolling Stone, I would say this album was 'Almost' finished and maybe a little more further production would of happened before release.

Elisa believes that Prince was not finished with "Stand Up and B Strong"

And Morris also states that P wanted to add guitar to check the record

I for one am happy that it has been released this way, as i would hate someone to have added parts now without his approval

he might have better luck if he was drummin with his Dick!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I note Elisa states in the Rolling Stone article that 'Stand Up B Strong'
is 'unfinished' with 'empty production', which is an honest but odd comment when promoting the album.

Morris also indicates that 'Check the Record' was unfinished and awaiting Prince to add guitar, which Prince suggests vocally on the track.

As 'Born 2 Die' also sounded somewhat empty and incomplete to me, it seems this album is not the finished product many of us initially believed.

It's quite incoherent as at one point they say it was ready to go and shelved for unknown reasons, the next minute they say it's incomplete. I'm assuming the guitar bit about Check The Record might have been him doing that on purpose, a bit like Sly on Dance 2 The Music maybe, who knows, we'll probably know more after we hear the song.

I'm hoping for the Prince, Sonny & Michael B version of "Stand Up and B Strong" appears as a B-side to a single as Michael Howe has already found it

i feel the same about 'Born 2 die', the last part of the song seems unfinished to me, something is lacking, an empty musical space to fill, maybe with either the lead guitar or the horns ; i think the song (which has a real potential) would have been way better with more musicianship instead of all those voices who seem to fill a gap in the second part of this one.

however, i'm confident about the album ; it belongs to a moment in time in his career, maybe not representative of what he was heading during the ultimate era (2015/2016)

Now that I would be excited to hear! Along with any other material recorded by that trio.
