The Revolution certainly gets a lot of attention in these podcasts ...

Actually, the podcasts are about them, and you get the feeling that the Sign O The Times live band was merely a disturbance - an accident that happened to them.

I miss the days when their tendency to self-aggrandaziment was nipped in the bud by the threat of lawsuits ...

Four episodes in and it is still the same page, different book. Still talking about the Revolution's influence. The podcast should be called "The Breakup and Influnece of the Revolution" because the four episodes have very little to do with the actual album that he made, in part, to distance himself from the band. You guys have fun with the series because most of you apparently love the narrative. Four episodes of whitewashing has lost my interest. Looking forward to hearing the music next week.

If I’m the star, and you’re my HIRED musicians and I bring in a few more people to change shit up, that’s my prerogative. Their entitlement and territorial issues are bleeding thru. 4 episodes in and supposedly 4 left and the album drops next week, are we ever gonna hear about the SOTT Band, the actual album and not just about the outtakes and the band that was disbanded before the album came out?

Nope, never, you should save your blood pressure and stop listening. I mean, sure its told the story from 1985 to 1986 in chronological order and any idiot can see that 1987 comes right after 1986 but i predict you'll never hear the story you want to hear. Maybe Wendy will say she wrote housequake and you can really have a meltdown?

The podcast went out of their way to credit that song to WL. Putting aside whether the podcast misrepresented that Prince had nothing to do with writing the song, that effort to continue to highlight their contribution rather than to highlight Prince’s genius is the problem with this series. There is an agenda and they are all in on it because many of you eat it up. Let’s pray Ezra does not make the same mistake in the netflix documentary.

Wendy said something in this episode that I found curious. She'd said it before in an earlier episode and I glossed over it, but she's brought it up twice now.

She'd mentioned Roadhouse Garden as an example of a project they were working on. When she mentioned it before I assumed she was just talking about the song, but she's only ever listened it in the context of album titles. Roadhouse Garden, Dream Factory, Crystal Ball. What does she mean by this?

I know Prince had an album in mind at the end of the 90s, but I assumed this would have just be a compilation of unused Revolution songs. Do you think the Roadhouse Garden album could have been a concept Prince was knocking around back in the mid 80s?

I think the podcasts are moving chronologically through the recording of the album. I expect the Revolution will be less in evidence in the next few as it moves onto him re recording some tracks on his own with no revolution involvement

This episode was about the breakup of the Revolution, which is what the other 3 were about. Very little about the recording of the album in 1986 in this episode. This was just a mechanism for more Revolution propaganda and had very little to do with the SOTT album. It was intentional and disappointing.

Hi Amojeru. I'd be interested in hearing more about this. Have you got a link? TIA

I interpreted Eric's comment as "they co-wrote 'In A Large...'". Because it was the same a few years ago with 'Power Fantastic', which was said to be written by Lisa (which then meant, she came up with the basic idea and Prince finished it).

I'm not surprised they at least co-wrote it (one of my all time fave outtakes - so excited for this one!). The outtro on it sounds so similar to their song "Light" from the first W&L album (I segued these two tracks together on a mixtape back in the 80's). wink

big fan of rev but these podcasts are a bit redundant and lacking in any real interesting info .. i get that it leads up to sott but a lot of these interviews would work better for the parade box .. honestly the rev sound out of the loop talking about sott .. cuz they were .. at that point prince was not working WITH them but rather maintaining a somewhat professional demeaner until the inevitable end that was already decided .. they should rather answer every question with .. i dont really know cuz we were on our way out at that point .. instead of pretending to be a big part of things when they weren't ... maybe the other 19 podcasts will give some prince songs insight instead of just rev breakup insight

I noticed that and wondered if Roadhouse Garden was actually an album back then. We know P first mentioned it as an album in 98.

.

A few comments have been questionable. Of course the 'W&L wrote In A Large Room..' quote which we don't know if entirely true.

.

And didn't Brown Mark say he went to Paisley in 86 and was asked to join the NPG. Of course it was a long time ago and these guys may get some things mixed up but they are being passed as facts on these podcasts

Now I'm even more curious about that In a Large Room with No Light Jam from that Broken Faucet thread from years ago. Maybe on that you can here how it evolved or maybe Wendy and Lisa started that jam, curious.

Now I've heard the clip of Eric Leed's saying that one was Wendy and Lisa's I no longer have any doubts. Eric stands to gain nothing by saying W&L wrote it. He's still getting paid for playing on it no matter who's song it is. Also, he said that in 2017, long before SOTT:SD was even a concept.

It's interesting how both 'In A Large Room With No Light' and 'Power Fantastic' were slated for Dream Factory on the June configuration, but were both substituted out by July. Prince seems may have already begun minimising Wend and Lisa's involvement by removing the two songs they would have had writing credits on.

I think it’s completely believable that they wrote the music, and that Prince turned it into a song, like with Mountains, Power Fantastic, and possibly SISIA. In that case, wouldn’t it be “co-written by Wendy & Lisa?”
