Four episodes in and it is still the same page, different book. Still talking about the Revolution's influence. The podcast should be called "The Breakup and Influnece of the Revolution" because the four episodes have very little to do with the actual album that he made, in part, to distance himself from the band. You guys have fun with the series because most of you apparently love the narrative. Four episodes of whitewashing has lost my interest. Looking forward to hearing the music next week.

So do you think they wrote the music and lyrics..

I think it’s completely believable that they wrote the music, and that Prince turned it into a song, like with Mountains, Power Fantastic, and possibly SISIA. In that case, wouldn’t it be “co-written by Wendy & Lisa?”

This is what I'm thinking. When Susan Rogers was talking about Power Fantastic I believe she said "That was Lisa's one" from memory, despite Susan herself telling the story of how Prince turned it into Power Fantastic when he wrote the lyrics. (Lisa had named it 'Carousel' prior to the writing of the lyrics).

In Eric's interview he said W&L wrote the music but he wasn't sure about the lyrics. That might have been Prince.

Given how their collaborations have worked in the past it they probably were Prince's lyrics, but right now it's anyone's guess.

It'll be interesting to see if the hand written lyrics for this one are in the book. That would shed some light on the matter.

Wendy said something in this episode that I found curious. She'd said it before in an earlier episode and I glossed over it, but she's brought it up twice now.

She'd mentioned Roadhouse Garden as an example of a project they were working on. When she mentioned it before I assumed she was just talking about the song, but she's only ever listened it in the context of album titles. Roadhouse Garden, Dream Factory, Crystal Ball. What does she mean by this?

I know Prince had an album in mind at the end of the 90s, but I assumed this would have just be a compilation of unused Revolution songs. Do you think the Roadhouse Garden album could have been a concept Prince was knocking around back in the mid 80s?

I noticed that and wondered if Roadhouse Garden was actually an album back then. We know P first mentioned it as an album in 98.

.

In an earlier podcast in the series, it was mentioned that Dream Factory was not an album they were working on so much as a name for where songs went that didn't fit with whatever album project they were doing "this one's for the Dream Factory!" or words to that effect. Roadhouse Garden was never brought up as an album concept. And to me... Roadhouse Garden is about much the same concept as Paisley Park, a place where you can make music and be happy. I think whatever Roadhouse Garden was as a concept morphed into Around The World In A Day after that song was there and Paisley Park was there. This might simply be memory being what it is after almost 35 years and Roadhouse Garden being a thing for a mention in the podcasts for Around The World In A Day Super Deluxe (I can dream)

BINGO. Most likely P's lyrics

Might be nit-picking but these podcasts need to be checking the facts.

Nope, never, you should save your blood pressure and stop listening. I mean, sure its told the story from 1985 to 1986 in chronological order and any idiot can see that 1987 comes right after 1986 but i predict you'll never hear the story you want to hear. Maybe Wendy will say she wrote housequake and you can really have a meltdown?

Perfect summation of the transparent anxieties coming out of some people. Thanks.

I also suspect this to be the case. I'm guessing Prince may have been using his '84 Birthday show to test out some material for the potential Roadhouse Garden album, with songs like Our Destiny and All Day, All Night. Just speculation, but this might have been what Wendy was referring to.

big fan of rev but these podcasts are a bit redundant and lacking in any real interesting info .. i get that it leads up to sott but a lot of these interviews would work better for the parade box .. honestly the rev sound out of the loop talking about sott .. cuz they were .. at that point prince was not working WITH them but rather maintaining a somewhat professional demeaner until the inevitable end that was already decided .. they should rather answer every question with .. i dont really know cuz we were on our way out at that point .. instead of pretending to be a big part of things when they weren't ... maybe the other 19 podcasts will give some prince songs insight instead of just rev breakup insight

This
No. Not this. The album was made in the shadow of both a personal and professional break up for Prince. The fact that people (mostly men) want to undermine the influence of the women involved here tells me a lot about them.

The sott sessions were done while they were still together. Before the parade tour even. So it makes sense. Plus the sott band had nothing to do with the album. But yes I really hope the sott band get mixed attention in the next few episodes. They deserve it.

Bud, you may not know this, but Miko was very much around when this album was made. Prince was recording with him in the warehouse as you can clearly hear on We Can Funk.

People do seem to forget that Miko was a full fledged member of the Revolution. See the Anotherloverholenyohead video for more blatantly obvious context.

And then we have Miko's words themselves which hold just as much water as anyone else around at the time.

Miko's words about being there:

Miko Mixamillion Weaver

not all true if you were in the room like I have been

Miko Mixamillion Weaver

This is all so funny for me! I'm there since 1983 and know much more than what I've read by people who weren't in the same room including past engineers. Which many times on many tracks I've seen only himself working the controls that the engineers set up and then asked to leave! Many have forgotten that I was actually there with him

Miko Mixamillion Weaver

it was all him! Others where just others! People crying now mega years late? Pat's on the back bullshit! I'm sad because he can't tell his side of the story but I can but don't want to call folks liars!

do you also have info on which bandmembers had beef with which other bandmembers? That may colour how they talk about eachother. it's best to have multiple sources for any remarks. In that light Miko's remarks don't have much corroboration yet.

Except, Miko said he was there when the album was made and that it was all Prince.

Then he’s manipulating the truth. Who knows what his hang up is? Maybe he has an issue with women and their influence. If I had to choose, I’m going to take the word of several individual, yet corroborate, sources over one guy who hasn’t really said anything about anything for the past few decades. Look, all I’m doing is trying to help set the record straight. Every time these podcasts get released, we once again get subjected to the moans and bleatings of a small but vocal minority (including yourself) rehashing the same old complaints (where’s this? Where’s that? Them again)? It’s getting really old, dude. Just enjoy it for the document it is, hearing from the people who were there, and the music that’s involved. This is a weird fan site, I gotta say.

No because he's clearly stated otherwise. Bud. So I'm pretty sure if we can take every bit of W&L's recollection as gospel (despite it being inconsistent) then surely we can take Miko's too.

You’re tiring me out. Let’s see if I have you straight. Miko stated something so it must be true. Wendy and Lisa state something and it must not? No, it’s VERY clear what your intention is: Miko is to believed (despite just his word). W & L are to be doubted (despite evidence). Don’t try to weasel out of this, your implication is very clear. But why? That’s the real question.

The podcast went out of their way to credit that song to WL. Putting aside whether the podcast misrepresented that Prince had nothing to do with writing the song, that effort to continue to highlight their contribution rather than to highlight Prince’s genius is the problem with this series. There is an agenda and they are all in on it because many of you eat it up. Let’s pray Ezra does not make the same mistake in the netflix documentary.

The truth is what it is whether you agree with it or not. Amazing how fragile some fans can be about a writing credit.

Anybody willing to listen to multiple episodes of this podcast already knows that Prince was a musical genius and talented man, I'm not sure why some fans have such an insecure knee-jerk reaction to any praise given to his collaborators.
