Same here

I see what y'all saying....but....

The ONLY CD player I have is in my car...and it skips summin fierce. I have a record player...but its stuck in the house and not portable, and tbh...it gets pretty dusty. I get internet connections virtually everywhere...98 percent of the time they're free or included in my costs of having a phone/data plan. My internet connections are much more portable and reliable than ANY physical media players I have. I like to take advantage of that rather than shun it.

Do they even sell discman anymore? Is there a CD slot on my phone I don't know about? No worries TBH....I just stick the audio plug from my stereo into my phone or comp and bypass all that physical bs...

I don't understand why people hold on SOOOO hard to older, more difficult ways to listen to music.

Thank you!

Just sell mix tapes on the corner then.

Got a point, maybe WB said "no" to this project and he just went to Tidal to release it.. 'Cause he's got to get it out there someway or another

the reason why WB said no is cuz Prince didn't fulfil his part of the deal with no PR remaster, he forced them to release PlecElec along with AOA and didn't bother to promote AOA and PlecElec at all once they were out and PlecElec is now his lowest selling album on a major label. I doubt WB will ever release a new Prince album ever again. As for the Tidal deal, I believe like a few others that Jay-Z paid Prince upfront and Prince won't give damn if we sign up or not, therefore I won't have bad conscience if I download it illegally

It is about owning the music. Prince wants to own his music/masters, so do we... Youngsters may be into streaming, but they don't know any better. We're old geezers, 40+, so we need to own shit we pay for

Darian Mitchell said: "Yes!I will be there AGAIN! Myself, along with 4 other writers heard his new album late last night during a special “invite-only” session at PP. I can’t reveal the name of the album(it is NOT “hitnrun”)nor can I give any song titles but I can tell you this album is fierce! It is a strong return to the one man band style that Prince used so effectively in the 80’s. There are no special guest stars at all …it’s all Prince with “Joshua” listed as executive producer. There are naughty moments, there is lots of guitar and most importantly there are GREAT SONGS! I hope he spins it again Saturday night for us! I need this album in my collection,it is hands down the best album Prince has ever made. I’m quite serious."

.
Pretty much every album of his in the past 20yrs has received this kind of praise from journalists when he does this prior-to-release listening parties.

* Prince has returned to the One Man Band style
* Prince is back to his naughty self
* Prince's guitar solos are back
* He's back to writing great songs
* His best album since his 80s hey-days

All the usual rhetoric. I can remember these exact same things being said about 20Ten, MPLSound, 3121, Musicology, Rave, Newpower Soul, Emancipation etc.. I think it has a lot to do with the atmosphere. Journalists go to these events and get all caught up in the purple hype. Something in the water wink

I may not be pleased that I'd have to join Tidal to hear his album, but in terms of being true to his beliefs, this deal shows he means business. This is most likely happening with WB's full blessings with Prince emphasizing his commitment to a solution that incudes supporing black-owned businesses.

Will I be joining Tidal? Maybe if I found out all his remastered albums are now on it.

If so, that's such bs.

Promotion had ZERO to do with it. If there is fault with anyone over AOA, all parties involved share the blame for releasing an album with no artistic appeal, much less commercial. Comical to believe anyone involved in the music industry felt compelled to release it. Non the, the new tracks point to someone shaking someone up. Sounds like Prince woke up.feom the coma he put himself in on Artificial Age. Sounds like the autopilot is finally off.

I'm one of the old dinosaurs who had to google what streaming is!! I still buy physical releases & still get a little rush of excitement when I have the album in my hand. I like liner notes & still value album covers as an artistic statement that reflects the music inside. I have an iPhone & do purchase from iTunes when this is the only option but I don't get a buzz from this! If I can sign up to Tidal for free then I may consider it. However I won't be giving any of my hard earned cash to a streaming service. I will buy several physical copies if available at a later date. Otherwise i'll be forced to buy from a bootlegger or get a tekki friend to burn me a decent copy with all the trimmings!
I am very pleased that there is new music coming our way however we will obtain it. I also love the album cover & would be happy for a run of albums with @RedFoxBandit cover art.

ZERO to do with it. It was dinosaur music intended for the same six dinosaurs here who do not understand streaming services. There was absolutely no commercial or artistic merit to it. It was weird old fashioned dinosaur music for today's grandmas with bad taste in music. It WAS really that bad.

ANY little promotion could've had at least a little bit of impact on it.

For instance, there was the 2014 MTV Awards in Augest around the same time they announced the tracklisting and had it available for pre-order.

Also before that, BET Awards.. I'm sure if they planned it right, they could've let Prince do something.. simply because he's Prince.

They could have also released a music video for Clouds.

I ain't saying it would have completely saved the album, but it would've done better then it did..

They are all living in a fantasy land. I love CDs but there days are numbered. I know this and anyone working in the industry knows this. You can sign up with Tidal for a free trial so everybody will get a chance to hear it and I can see him doing something with other services if he can get the right deal.

Now I'm really confused. He keeps tweeting about these "reasons" for not using Spotify...providing links to (assumed) bad albums or sets with his songs (an acoustic tribute album, another artists rendition of "Kiss", etc.). But, a simple search shows these SAME referenced sets are also available on Tidal. Seems a little hypocritical. But maybe that's just me...

Don't put money in bootleggers pockets. Boots are always FREE.

But Prince made it so much harder to download them. The bootleg sellers are still active, the free blogs are gone and it became harder to find the new releases.

Promotion had A LOT to do with it...

Even that ONE TV appearance he made on The Arsenio Hall Show was MONTHS before the album dropped. There was no tour. There was no real ads anywhere. No one I know knew about it, therefore whoever was in charged of promoting it did a terrible job. Maybe Prince didn't think that WB deserved the PR Remaster after they were resposible for that...

ZERO to do with it. It was dinosaur music intended for the same six dinosaurs here who do not understand streaming services. There was absolutely no commercial or artistic merit to it. It was weird old fashioned dinosaur music for today's grandmas with bad taste in music. It WAS really that bad. No promotion in the world would have saved it.

Ultimately it's about the music. Let me put it this way, he can open a show with these two new tracks and he will kill it with fans new and old. Play them on a TV show whatever.
Now, if he opened with Pancakes Can Wait and Clouds, it would only put people to sleep or make them feel sorry for him. Honestly it had nothing to do with promotion, it was the music.

lol this place is hilarious. you want new music. it's announced complete with a release date and people still complain. people still buy cds?

They are all living in a fantasy land. I love CDs but there days are numbered. I know this and anyone working in the industry knows this. You can sign up with Tidal for a free trial so everybody will get a chance to hear it and I can see him doing something with other services if he can get the right deal.

And after that free month? We either never listen to it again or pay for it every month for life?

Remember in Baltimore when he said something along the lines of wanting to come back and stay in an hotel that's black-owned? Prince is supporting a venture started by Jay Z that echoes his own philosophy about artists getting a fairer deal in an industry that screws them every day?

I may not be pleased that I'd have to join Tidal to hear his album, but in terms of being true to his beliefs, this deal shows he means business. This is most likely happening with WB's full blessings with Prince emphasizing his commitment to a solution that incudes supporing black-owned businesses.

Will I be joining Tidal? Maybe if I found out all his remastered albums are now on it.

You are spot on as usual✌🏿

feeluupp

FYI here are the numbers:

SPOTIFY has over 60 million active users with over 15 million paid subscribers... TIDAL has only 540,000 as of now.

Now let's do the math... How many of those 540,000 will stream Prince's new album? Divide that by how many actual PRINCE fans have a TIDAL account...

If so, that's such bs.

Not my fault more black people don't own hotels.

Maybe if they didn't buy so many gold chains they would.

Lie down, fair 1, and come away
Till the rain is over and gone
G-G-Gimme the beat now (Face the music)
Lead line (Face the music)

If the air is a little thick in this room 2nite
I reckon it's the result of an onslaught of separatist rookies
Overcome by this colorful sight

Talkin' so fast that even they
Talkin' so fast that even they
Don't know what they mean

Of all the things that base a rhyme
How is it that U everytime
Regurgitate the racist lines that keep us apart?

Thank God this ain't Monopoly
U'd make us all go back 2 start

Race
In the space I mark human (Face the music)
Race
Face the music
We all bones when we dead

Race
In the space I mark human (Face the music)
Cut me, cut U
Both the blood is red

I gotcha

Race
Race

Check it

Three seats over there's a lady black
Entrusted 2 her care is a little white girl
And the fact of the matter is

Before her momma or another kid at school
Tells her about the fallacy that 1 race rules over the other
She'd be a much-better-off-left fool (Face the music)

If we never heard about the evils that those before us committed
Then how my dear, tell me now how my dear, tell me now how now would we know

And then the band say

Race
In the space I mark human (Face the music)
Race
Face the music
We all bones when we dead

Race
In the space I mark human (Face the music)
Cut me, cut U
Both the blood is red

I gotcha

Race
Race
(Face the music)

D-d-down with H-I-S-T-O-R-Y and all this BS propagandi
Keepin U from me and me from U as we grow
I don't wanna know (I don't wanna know)
Why those before us hated each other

I'd rather believe they never did
I'd rather believe (I'd rather, I'd rather believe)
That there's hope 4 a kid

And if he imitates the best
I guess that's what I'll try 2 be
And I will let the rest dissolve with my guitar underneath the sea

Race
(Face Face Face Face Face)
Face the music (Face the music)
Face the music

Race
In the space I mark human (Face the music)
Race
Face the music
We all bones when we dead

Race
In the space I mark human (Face the music)
Cut me, cut U
Both the blood is red

Get it?
Race
Got it

Race
Face the music
Race Race
(Face Face Face the music)
Race Race
(Face Face Face the music)
Race Race
Race Race
(Face-F-Face the music)

Well we got a racist ass on the board. Confirms some of my suspicions. Every time Prince is working with other black people this bullshit starts. Wake up and and smell the coffee 1. Cd are going away. 2. The planet has more people of color than white. 3. If you do not own something and control your own destiny you going to get got. You may know go back to your racist rant.

Don't you think people will find away to make copies. Don't you know Prince owns this music and can take it to another service or put out on Cd later. It does not matter since he has been paid upfront and may have money invested in Tidal.

Bullshit no promotion means no sales. He promoted the hell out Musicology and that was a so-so cd.
