I hope this isn't a HitnRun deal like he did with Planet Earth... Well at least he relased it in a physical copy... Even though that album was God awful one of the most boring and blandest Prince albums of all time.

well, it might be hilarious, but most of prince's loyal record BUYING public want to do

just that- buy his new album.

i don't like streaming, i don't want to, even if that means i'm an old fashioned dino at

37. i don't give a f*ck.

besides, i'm tired of jumping through hoops for prince just because he shops is disc

to wherever he gets a couple million $ as an advance before selling a single copy so
he can give them the album and then forget all about it.

how many times can this process repeat?

what's wrong with releasing an album on itunes? or on your own website?

and not every young person or band is all into streaming, a lot of bands who are in

complete control decide to release physical options, both cd and vinyl, lossless files,

limited editions etc etc. and you can all buy them on their freakin' website.

i have truly NEVER heard any artist moan about advances and seen mention of them

dropping a new album WITHOUT a distribution deal in place.

what prince is doing these days is nothing like what other 'free' artists do, who are all

about the music. he just goes to whomever offers him the most money for a few days

of exclusivity, before turning around to another direction once again and burning yet

another bridge.

Once again, his decisions confound. I don't want to join Tidal to hear new music. Oh well.

It was stated by Jon Bream that P had no idea what Spotify was. I'd love to know who his 'advisors' are.

All that said, I AM glad there's new music coming.

Like a lot of potential buyers, if it really is only available as a stream on Tidal, I'll just download it illegally. Shame, cos I'm generally really against doing that, but I'm not subscribing to another streaming site for one album which I won't even have a physical copy of. All that missed revenue, Prince.

maybe Prince is so ashamed of his new music

he wants as few ppl as possible to hear it.

He HAS to know at this point that as a recording artist

he is not appreciated among his fans.

lol.fuck it.not signing up for Tidal.

I prefer an album or a CD, or a file I can download.

I'm not going to pay whatever Tidal costs just to listen to the new Prince album, unless maybe if the membership includes the ability to download the album so that I own it forever.

Those of us that paid of NPGMC songs that went away when the NPGMC did know what I'm talking about.

The deal with me is this - you sell me something, I own it. I'm not buying a license to listen to something for a finite period of time. If I'm going to spend money on art, I'd better own that art.

Shame. I won't join Tidal for this. Hopefully they'll be other ways of getting the album.

The only one losing out is PRINCE... His new album will not be getting a lot of streams... The fans won't join TIDAL, and besides TIDAL is not even a popular streaming platform compared to Google, Apple and Spotify.

As Prince is scanning his computer "lookin' for a site", he should read the article that talks about Tidal being an ultimate failure...

There are some misconceptions here:

1) TIDAL doesn't cost $25 a month unless you want lossless. For the standard quality the other services use it costs the same $10 a month.

2) As with most streaming services you can select songs or albums to be downloaded into the app for offline listening.

3) It's been debunked the Jay Z is bailing out of TIDAL.

That may be, but you still don't own it... It's just queued in the app right?

Got a point, maybe WB said "no" to this project and he just went to Tidal to release it.. 'Cause he's got to get it out there someway or another

i might pay $10 for a CD or good quality no strings attached download (there are songs i can not listen to legaly i bought from NPGMC due to that stupid DRM)

if that is not an option i will do what i did for 20ten which is better than what I did for PE or AOA or the other PE

Same here, I will also download it illegally cuz I don't wanna be forced to join Tidal in order to get his new music. I'm sick and tired of Prince wierd distribution methods. Last year I bought AOA and I will pay for HITNRUN the day it's available for purchase the normal way. Anyway I'm glad the new album is out soon, looking forward to it smile

With the state of the music industry as it is, I don't blame Prince for trying out diffrent avenues to make his music available. It certainly limits his market exposure. But with as big a name as he is, I wonder why he hasn't just set up his own online store. A no BS webstore with a basket and a checkout. Music and merch. It would certainly make it easier for consumers and cut out a lot of the middle men.
Anyway wish him best and look forward to the new album. I already like his two new tracks better than most anything in the past 5 years

So my speculations were right... It was a deal with TIDAL after all...

I noticed Phase 1 underneath... Do you think he will release another album maybe the Free Urself album??

No one uses TIDAL... Don't know why he doesn't just go back to the more popular streaming servies like Spotify.

Obviously you were speaking loosely when saying no one uses TIDAL, but I think it's a great service. The sound quality is notably better than Spotify, and that Prince music is there makes it that much better.

Also, it makes sense that Prince would be compelled to support TIDAL. The service was marketed as being artist centric, and they are marketing this for higher sound quality.

Anyone who would actually join Tidal to hear it? It just seems like such an unlikely prospect for most.

As much as I think the artwork is cool (It was good for the Baltimore thing), it doesn't do an ALBUM COVER justice... Like, it's basically just a cartoon version of ART OFFICIAL AGE cover with out the Records and clouds in the background... and the same Illuminati sunglasses lol

WOW, just read through all the comments and I'm amazed so many people are ANTI-streaming music. It's not as if this is a new concept are anything, plus the cost of $25/mo for lossless audio quality on thousands of albums is great IMHO.

I guess the 21st century is just an uncomforatble place for some....

I'm with EVERY ONE OF YOU who has said F THAT to having to join a monthly service to hear one album that we care about (maybe).

.

But hey, this is what free trials are for.

.

https://go.tidal.com/us/r...cW30/HIFI

.

Sign up for the trial in September. Free lossless listening for 30 days. Make your own rip. Cancel.

.

(that link is for the US only - I'm sure there are similar trials for other countries)

.

Sorry, Prince - like so many others, I'll gladly PAY FOR A DOWNLOAD or PAY FOR A PHYSICAL COPY but won't be roped into a $120+/year committment to be able to stream music, especially from a site run by SINGERS AND PERFORMERS who aren't MUSICIANS.

.

Someone once said FREE THE MUSIC - not SUBSCRIBE TO A DYING STREAMING MUSIC SERVICE.

.

Make a physical copy or download available and my money is yours. I want to rent my music about as much as Prince wants to sign a contract.

.

Glad a new album is on its way. Not at all happy with a $120/year pricetag to hear it. How did we go from putting free albums in $1 newspapers to requiring a subscription to listen?

Free trial followed by illegal download. Like everyone else... Unless the phase 2 involves beig able to pay for the album, in which case I will.

Nothing against streaming services and I fully support artists being paid for their music. But I will not subscribe to Tidal, as I am not going to use it.

most people, i think, would rather spend $25/month on whatever they want, not what is made available to them. i'm not gonna bother looking, but i'm sure there ain't shit on tidal i'm interested in hearing. i'll take my $25 to the record store and go home knowing that i want to hear what i purchased. the stooges on tidal? then fuck it.

Sadly yes. I believe most everyone here would have listened to the album on the day of its release in this manner. Mostly because it would probably be a lot easier.
