PRINCE AND WARNER BROS. RECORDS UNVEIL NEW PARTNERSHIP

April 18, 2014 - Prince and Warner Bros. Records today announced a new agreement that will see the release of long-awaited, previously unheard material, while giving the artist ownership of the master recordings of his classic, global hits. At the same time, the deal extends Prince's relationship with Warner Bros. Records, through an exclusive global licensing partnership that covers every album released from 1978 into the nineties. The financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Hmm, that's funny, could have sworn some famz were 100% sure P had regained the rights to his master recordings. Oops, turned out they were wrong as per usual, and those who pointed out that such a thing wouldn't happen quietly and was unlikely to happen in the first place were proven right.
.
Now let's hope we get proper remasters, plenty of extra's etcetera. © Bart Van Hemelen

In light of this incredibly fantastic news today and the fact that I just happened to have ordered one of these yesterday...
Is it too early and/or greedy to start for a Prince AND The Revolution Reunion?
I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart. |

They'll probably use that Kevin Gray remaster from a few years ago for Purple Rain. |

I THINK BART IS A LITTLE BIT HAPPY WITH THIS NEWS yes lets hope we get the deluxe versions of all his classic albums..i think we will..i had almost given up hope of this ever happening but it looks like he has seen sense...purple rain re issue will make him millions in particular and the thought of a sign o the times deluxe album is enough to make me feel like a teenager all over again [Edited 4/18/14 10:37am] |

Soooo.....when is that "Bart" fellow going to come by and lecture the Org again on how Prince has no clue how to handle his business affairs? Hmmm.....I'll wait!
.
He still doesn't. Like I've said before, we shoudl have been on the THIRD round of remasters by now. Also, this could easily go horribly wrong. Like plenty of others already said: I believe this when I hold actual product in my hand.
.
This thing right here is what I said Prince should have done with his last WB contract negotiations: agree to deluxe editions with outtakes and remasters and live recordings in exchange to get control of his masters in X amount of time. That way us fans would have gotten something good and if P then inevitably decided to screw up his back catalogue when he had full control (and he would, just look at how he treated the records he released independently), at least we would still have (hopefully decent) remasters/special editions. © Bart Van Hemelen

I hate to be "that guy", but... for those of us who don't buy physical discs anymore, I sure hope there will be some sort of digital option available.
.
Having said that... I'm as giddy as a schoolgirl in anticipation of what we could be getting. Please, Prince, don't pull your punches... let's get some real unreleased goodness with this anniversary edition!
This will be the first physical disc I've bought in a long, long time.
Hope they are done on Vinyl too, my chosen format these days |

i used to think prince was a bit of a dick for writing "slave" on his face in the 90s but when you see great artists like sly stone left almost destitute...maybe he wasnt so out of order...but i am delighted he has made up with warners...its really is where he should be imo. |

For Prince fans worldwide, the new partnership will open a veritable gold mine. The surprise announcement comes just in time for this summer's 30th Anniversary celebrations of the artist's breakthrough album and film, Purple Rain, which were released in 1984. For the first time, Prince will be releasing a digitally re-mastered, deluxe version of this classic album. Other planned projects will follow.
Prince said, "A brand-new studio album is on the way and both Warner Bros Records and Eye are quite pleased with the results of the negotiations and look forward to a fruitful working relationship."
"Everyone at Warner Bros Records is delighted to be working with Prince once again: he is one of the world's biggest stars and a truly unique talent" said Cameron Strang, Chairman & CEO, Warner Bros. Records. "We are also very excited about the release of new and re-mastered music from one of his greatest masterpieces."
