He's been hyping PLECTRUM ELECTRUM for almost a year...and nothin yet.

For all his talk of wanting freedom to release more music after he left WB, he has released fewer and fewer albums and made them harder to get. In short, I worship Prince and find him maddening.

Here's what WB needs to do: Make a Prince website and post new batches of previously unreleased tracks for sale every month. Prince wins, fans win, WB wins. Until this happens, I'll believe it when I see it.

I can't wait to hear this unheard music. I wonder if it's music that's never been leaked or even documented. I hope the film gets the same treatment!

Soooo.....when is that "Bart" fellow going to come by and lecture the Org again on how Prince has no clue how to handle his business affairs? Hmmm.....I'll wait!

.

He still doesn't. Like I've said before, we shoudl have been on the THIRD round of remasters by now. Also, this could easily go horribly wrong. Like plenty of others already said: I believe this when I hold actual product in my hand.

.

This thing right here is what I said Prince should have done with his last WB contract negotiations: agree to deluxe editions with outtakes and remasters and live recordings in exchange to get control of his masters in X amount of time. That way us fans would have gotten something good and if P then inevitably decided to screw up his back catalogue when he had full control (and he would, just look at how he treated the records he released independently), at least we would still have (hopefully decent) remasters/special editions.

Prince has still got you reeling, though, BVH!!!

Shoulda, woulda, coulda don't count in this crazy Princey world, does it???

The man will never retire untill he kicks the bucket. Get it???

That would make it too easy for Prince to change his mind and pull the plug on the whole damn thing. Been there. Done that.

I'd rather have to go to a brick and mortar store! falloff

Purple Rain getting remastered is kind of good news, even though it's 20 years too long in coming. I honestly am not that interested in purchasing it unless I hear for sure that Prince resisted the urge to censor the music as he has done repeatedly to his catalog material over the last 15 years or so. NPGMusicClub, live, no matter what... the music has been censored. If it turns out that the album and outtakes are in the form fans have long asked for, I'll be pleased. Again, though I think there is no chance of that happening. Too bad we are not getting a reunited Revolution album and tour to support the reissues, but I guess that makes too much sense for Prince to ever allow. I'm sure he's getting off on throwing it back in their faces. "Donna?" "Yes Hannah" "Is the water warm enough". "Yes Hannah". I'm imagining 3rdeyegirl featuring Prince promoting a reissued Prince and The Revolution album by infusing the old tracks live with their goofy version of the sounds popular on radio and my excitement level for all things Prince hits zero. Not to mention Prince wearing that crooked afro wig... sigh.. I need more than a deal for reissues to care about Prince music in 2014. This deal includes what, from what we've heard so far, seems like the all time low in terms of the quality of new music for Prince's career. I fear WB told Prince whatever he needed to hear to get the deal done, "Yeah we hear 3 or 4 number 1 hits on your new album", and then, based on Prince's past behavior with blaming the labels when his record don't sell, this thing will end with more lawsuits than remastered releases.

First up: a 30th anniversary deluxe reissue of "Purple Rain" including "unreleased, unheard material."

This is from a joint press release out this morning.

PRINCE AND WARNER BROS. RECORDS UNVEIL NEW PARTNERSHIP

April 18, 2014 - Prince and Warner Bros. Records today announced a new agreement that will see the release of long-awaited, previously unheard material, while giving the artist ownership of the master recordings of his classic, global hits. At the same time, the deal extends Prince's relationship with Warner Bros. Records, through an exclusive global licensing partnership that covers every album released from 1978 into the nineties. The financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

For Prince fans worldwide, the new partnership will open a veritable gold mine. The surprise announcement comes just in time for this summer's 30th Anniversary celebrations of the artist's breakthrough album and film, Purple Rain, which were released in 1984. For the first time, Prince will be releasing a digitally re-mastered, deluxe version of this classic album. Other planned projects will follow.

Prince said, "A brand-new studio album is on the way and both Warner Bros Records and Eye are quite pleased with the results of the negotiations and look forward to a fruitful working relationship."

"Everyone at Warner Bros Records is delighted to be working with Prince once again: he is one of the world's biggest stars and a truly unique talent" said Cameron Strang, Chairman & CEO, Warner Bros. Records. "We are also very excited about the release of new and re-mastered music from one of his greatest masterpieces."

I don't see any direct mention. of remixes, b-sides or new studio material.

"Previously unheard material" could be live performances.

It could be a remastered Purple Rain along with a concert recording. Period.

Y'all are building expectations on a flimsy foundation.

With all of this today, this has been what's on my mind. That arrangement was announced not very long ago. I agree with your suggestion that P must have disliked something that Reid was doing (perhaps promoting MJ work, perhaps how he marketed "FALLINLOVETONITE")

The fact it's still being formed is a great chance to mention to 3rdeyegirl/Warner Bros what we would like. This isn't just a Prince venture, but Warner Bros too, since it's a partnership. Warner wants to make as much money as possible on this. So it wouldn't hurt to mention what we would like.

On a few levels, actually.

I would like to do an experiment in Orgology...

I will now make an unbiased comment on the news at hand:

It's about damn time!!!

My only true and foremost request for the remaster would be the full version of "Computer Blue"!

Anything else would be icing on THAT CAKE.

This space will now be filled with counter-comments to what has already been posted after i read through all 250+ Orger comments...

(..........................)

Prost!

So, yeah.

Just the way it always goes.

50/50.

i, for one, am thinking very positively about the whole deal.

i don't mean to judge too much,but i will!!!

i'm a huge Prince fan. He makes great music.

You can't possibly think that you can come close to his talent.

There is noone in this forum who could ever reach that level.

You may think that you can strike a better business deal or contract.

Do you really think that he listens to you about the business side?

Let's just enjoy the next episode.

No need for bitching, please!

That shit has been going on for years and it's nothing but sheer BS if u ask me. Prince did temper with some tracks on NPGMC, that's one thing, but he'll never EVER do it with remasters/rereleases. I'm ready to give 100 bucks to anyone saying he will if he does (and if PR is the first remaster, with Darling Nikki being on it, we'll quickly know who was right). That whole mythos about P being the George Lucas of music is nothing but PURE BULLSHIT. He WON'T TOUCH A THING!
