It's not the music that's boring. It's all the stuff going on that doesn't jive with the song like hot girls, hot outfits (& bondage?) & hot dance moves. I find it distracting and not in sync with the meaning and flow of the song. The song isn't boring. It's the distractions that don't jive with the mood & the music that are boring. Like I said previously, the girls, outfits, dance moves have been done, redone & overdone.

The song is boring as hell. It is Prince doing yet another "this will do" track. I wouldn't be surprised if it is a "bland funky popsong" preset on some keyboard. (Yes people, he has done that before. He has also sampled other people's music and he has appropriated other people's songs without their consent.)

If anyone thinks this is going to be big: good luck with that, and see your doctor for those ongoing delusions. The video starts off awfully: oh look, a girl cooking breakfast -- they could not even be arsed to reverse the archetypical roles. And then it turns into some lame-ass mix between an ancient Janet Jackson video with some untalented Pussycat Dolls-rejects.

And there are the references to a ten year old Dave Chappelle sketch. A real hip & fly guy, that Princey dude.

And after three minutes that stupid high-pitched voice comes in. No doubt regarded as "edgy" by plenty of famz. It isn't.

The video also looks awfully cheap. The location, the dancers, the editing, the colors... All of it is just so tacky and pedestrian. That it has a title sequence and a credit sequence is just baffling.

Oh, and let's not forget this is a song about a 50+ year old man macking on young girls. Not creepy at all. No sir.

maybe thats why he's not in it....its only a female prince macking on young girls

kbarso

The video has nothing to do with the song. A band performance would have been better.

i would of seen the video differently if the girl was a grown woman. Like Janet was in "thats the way love goes" video. That was appropriate and believable for her. She was closer to my age now. As well as her amazing velvet rope ablum. She coming into her sexuality and sensualness naturaly..how it should be.

When janet was 18. when control debut...the first few vids we saw of her she was fully clothed..even up to her neck! and she was a force with her talent and moves!!! Yes she was a sight! But she was directed the right way and she displayed her talent as she was slowly coming into her sexy! Then we saw Pleas.Princ. video. Yes..guys were in awe...but she was showing us her craft and not prematurly forcing her sex down our throats.

With this vid BCW...i see a girl who is barely legal and yes beautiful and talented that shot a video of all she sees in her 18 yr. old head. Her brain wont fully be developed till she's in her twenties.

She did what this sexual premature music industry is doing.(miley,Paris,Britt,etc...the list goes on!!!

I didnt expect more from her world few but i did expect more from whoever was guiding her in this along the way. Knowing how many men would see it and want to bone her first!!! disbelief disbelief

I'm not thinking that's an issue, as the video appears to be getting picked up all over the damn place lol...besides, Prince has never been known for groundbreaking, innovative music videos--he's on record as saying he hates doing them, and it shows in many of the videos he has put out.

you mean your worldstarhiphops, bossips and theybfs, concreteloops? yeah those as regular blogs someone actually serviced the video too, I'm talking about non traditional outlets that pick up videos for nonconventional reasons, Bruno Mars got an awesome pick up on Mashable, his video wasnt serviced to them. A developing artist's video was picked up on Vogue.com, wasnt serviced to them. I stated MORE pick up, the video is indeed being serviced and picked up by many blogs.

1) Define "non traditional outlets", cuz I'm not seeing Mashable as non-traditional.

2) What's the value of "MORE" pick ups of the video on obscure, "non traditional" outlets--to the point that you think he should have done a completely different video--when the thing is already saturating 90% of the web?...Especially for someone of Prince's stature in music. It's not like it's gonna result in some significant increase in sales or radio airplay. And he's not a new, developing artist in need of visibility.

3) The song itself is getting plenty of airplay on all sorts of different music blogs, even if the video isn't. I first heard the song on indieshuffle.

I totally agree, I think everbody is a little bit too harsh on this young girl. I was a bit disappointed that there is no Prince in the video, but give her a break.

The video is not my style, I'm a rock 'n roll kinda girl, but for an 18 year old girl it's amazing to get this opportunity

Dude, youre a fucking cornball. Almost as bad as Kcool. I really wish I cared enough to read all that bullshit you typed. Since you cant figure out what the word social media means, Ill define it for you. Social media includes but is not limited to facebook, twitter, youtube and social media blogs. I can easily find and copy and paste every single comment that agrees with mine too. It doesnt make what you said any more relevant. Only more pathetic. With how much time you are taking to promote this, Prince should pay you. Or do you have a job? Disregarding some platforms of feedback like facebook or whatever else it was you blabbered, is like saying it doesnt count because you said so.

We get you like the video and have the taste of a teenager/child. Woopie! The videos still shit in my opinion. Deal with it.

I'm not crazy about the video, but Prince has put out a shitload worse in his career. Holy River and Fury absolutely blow...and there were a ton of his cringe-inducing 90s videos that make this one look like a Scorsese film lol.

The production values are terrific, the choreography is actually pretty good, and I'm hella thankful that Prince isn't in the video (he should stay out of more videos imo). It's a bit too Janet Jackson-ish for my tastes (and most of her videos where all about the dancing, not adhering to the "story" of the song).

We really arent disagreeing on much. The problem is you picked a random comment that disagreed with your own to vessel all your self imposed hype of what really is a tasteless, shit video. I agree about certain things you said but for your info brother, Ive peeped it on the social medias and the MAJORITY still is negative. The only people who seem impressed are the uneducated youth that Prince is so pathetically trying to impress. The point is hes trying to stay relevant. This isnt exclusive banter just coming from the org. Ive read comment after comment saying the same thing elsewhere. Let me level with you though and say, that I usually am VERY positive about his releases. I like this track, NOT the awful, wanna-be Janet Jackson cabbage patch kids trying to creatively express a grown and sexy track. Bring back Mayte for all I care because from what I see its a lame, weak dancing, confusing video.

You "peeped" in on "social medias"? lol...I'm guessing that means places like twitter, facebook and? If so, that social nonsense is just another form of message board blather like we have here on p.org. Please tell me you're not using THAT to validate any of your arguments.

I'll repeat what I said earlier: check out the voting on youtube for the video and check out what MEDIA OUTLETS are saying. You've yet to comment on either (or do either, I'm guessing).

In fact, what the hell, I'll do it for you thumbs up!

"Screw the most important meal of the day! You have to watch the most important clip of the day first! Prince's new song received a royal treatment in its music video by guest director Danielle Curiel, who was given full creative control over filming! With AHmazing dancing and great camera work, Danielle makes it hard to believe that she's only 18! When we were partying like it's 1999 in 1999, she was just 5 years old! So talented!" -PerezHilton

"There's no sign of Prince, either. Chappelle dressed up like him for the satrical lyric video. Who knew Prince had a sense of humor? The official one, out on Vevo now, stars the director of the video, 18-year old Danielle Curiel, plays a decidedly sexier version of the purple superstar." -USA Today

"Prince has finally released the video for his oh-so funky track ‘Breakfast Can Wait.’ Unfortunately, the Purple One doesn’t appear in it. WTF?

Not to worry, it’s still a visually appealing and sensual clip thanks to Prince’s newest discovery — dancer and choreographer Danielle Curiel. Not only did the curly-haired beauty directed the visual, she also becomes Prince’s cross-dressing doppleganger. Breakfast has been served… and it’s hot!" -theboombox.com

"Prince doesn’t show up in director Danielle Curiel’s video for his morning-sex funk jam “Breakfast Can Wait,” and neither, for that matter, does Dave Chappelle. Instead, the video has a foxy young couple using the medium of massive and artfully-lit choreographed dance throwdown to reveal how much they want to bang each other." -stereogum.com

"Prince wants you to know that, if you're feeling kinky early in the morning, breakfast can wait. That's the message in his new video for, well, "Breakfast Can Wait," a song that encourages A.M. risers to embrace their passions." -HuffingtonPost

"Prince has slid back into pop culture's focus recently, hopping onto Twitter and revealing cover art for the "Breakfast Can Wait" single with an iconic image from the Chappelle Show. That single has now gotten the video treatment, featuring another Prince impersonator and some hot kitchen love that segues into a steamy dance routine. Prince always keeps it too real, and it's more of the same that we've come to love in this new video." -Vibe

"...the Purple One has found plenty of sensual fun in the kitchen to keep pop music fans engaged in this work directed by and starring 18-year-old Danielle Curiel.

The track is a pulsing R&B slow-jam filled with rhythmic bumps and pauses as Curiel’s mis-en-scene alternates between what looks to be an attempt to prepare a morning-after meal in the kitchen and a tightly choreographed dance number in old brick workout space." -L.A. Times

the video shows why dancer/choreographer Danielle Curiel was lurking on the fringes of the concert all night long.

Not only did Curiel direct the clip, but she appears in several roles, including as Prince (pictured above). It's a different portrayal than the one Dave Chappelle pulled off a few years back, and a healthy creative partnership. Prince himself is not in the video at all, but his syrupy voice is all over the place as Curiel's detailed choreography dances through several different sets." -citypages

"In the Prince-free clip, directed by dancer Danielle Curiel, a couple plays out a most important meal of the day-eschewing fantasy before a sudden smash cut sends everyone to a dance studio and finally to a carefully-choreographed roundtable featuring a bunch of freaky masks and a whiff of Budweiser Black Crown.

Check it out below, and dig Prince’s cross-dressing doppelganger." -Entertainment Weekly

"Prince has brought back classic choreography in the music video for his latest single, “Breakfast Can Wait.”

The song...has now been graced with an over-the-top video that features a female impersonator, the most epic dance routine this side of Janet Jackson clips in the ’90s and yes, a pancake." -radio.com

"We've heard the super-sultry song, of course, and we've seen the Dave Chappelle-starring cover art. But now there's the Danielle Curiel-directed clip above to consider, and it's far more impressive than the low-budget "Screwdriver" clip that you had to pay to see." -Spin

"The video features a variety of colorful scenes that only Prince could deliver. “Breakfast Can Wait” features everything from slightly seductive kitchen escapades to leather-laden choreographed dance-offs." -Paste Magazine

"...it flings the bacon straight off the table and leaves Chappelle at home in order to get to dancier places more apropos for an earnest homage to a.m. fornication. It's a perfect jumping-off point for people who are pro-Prince but haven't figured out exactly what's going on with the tweets — nothing but a smooth Prince jam, some choreography, and abundant lyrical allusions to sex here." -grantland.com

"You Have To See This: Prince’s “Breakfast Can Wait”

The Purple Rain star has just released the new video for the track and, while there’s no time for coffee or grits, there is plenty of time for dancing, snapping and getting down, Prince-style, in the clip." -Time

"The visuals focus on a couple that heat up the kitchen, for lack of a better term. It also cuts to a dozen or so dancers in a studio working on a choreographed number that's just as hot and tempting." -complex.com

"And with the track's music video, director Danielle Curiel adds some kinky images to the sex-as-food dirty talk. It's a fitting companion: Lovers flirt in their kitchen against a backdrop of splattered breakfast foods, as Prince mingles slap-bass with his supple falsetto." -Rolling Stone

"Look like Prince‘s uncut official video for “Breakfast Can Wait” is here. Watch all 4 minutes and seconds of this choreographed sexiness. Like we said when we first posted on it, This is what a Prince song is supposed to sound like–and the video seems designed to show the viral generation what a music video is supposed to look like as well." -okplayer.com

I could do this all day. And notice that I said I wasn't all that crazy about the video so I'm not trying to convince you or anyone that they should like it. But interestingly enough, not a single comment of it looking "ghetto" or that Prince should be "embarrassed" lol...obviously they didn't watch the same video you did. But I sometimes forget that "social media" sites are a breeding ground for anonymous folks trying to one-up each other with how they express their views. It's not enough to say "I don't like it"...you have to be violently opposed to whatever you experienced (or conversely, deliriously floored by the brilliance of it all lol).

And for the record, I didn't pick a "random comment"...I picked your comment, mainly because it was asinine (and mainly because it was posted right as I posted mine lol). But take heart, in that it wasn't the only asinine comment in a thread chock full of 'em...it was just the closest one. wink

Isn't your argument a bit circular? The music blogs and media outlets you refer to are interested in getting maxium traffic to their sites so when Prince makes an official media release, they write a few lines about it and link the song and/or video. All it shows is that Prince is still a huge drawing card.

I'm all for giving youth a chance in fact I gave my 12 year old a chance to make pancakes the other day and they were damn good - no thanks to this video. He made them the old-fashioned way flour, oil and a hot skillet. He even managed to make his own fruit flavored simple syrup and the pancakes were surprisingly light fluffy & tasty. But at the end of it all that's all it was pancakes. Not the full meal deal. Why? Because he's only 12 and that was all he was willing to cook pancakes. Where is the square meal in that? I can only hope that one day he moves beyond just pancakes to be able to make and enjoy a full balanced meal but until then...

Janet and Michael Jackson did enough of this kind of dancing in the 80's and 90's for everyone, not to mention Beyonce for today's world. However, it was good to hear Prince sounding like the Prince of old, but the video I could take or leave.

It's such a lame and predictable video, and whether that's because of the inspiration of the director or Prince's "guidance", I can't tell.

Giving a platform to young asspiring talent is a great idea but it should be used to highlight the talent that creates and thinks outside of the mold. Those who will not instantly get airpplay otherwise because their style is so outspoken and daring.

There's no point in giving a platform to people who just rehash what is already out there for years. If you give someone full control, you do it because you want to see them go free and crazy in their ideas and style and not to do another sexy-group-dance-video with some folk with attitude. It would have been more interesting to see a non-perfect personal attempt of making something special than aiming for the safe bet.

It's a missed opportunity, both for Prince as well as the director.

yeahthat I agree with you..

The video has nothing to do (in common) with the music ->> and vice versa.

You could "glue" every other song to those pictures (the video)..... same bad result though... just a very terrible socalled "musicvideo",

Prince's music deserves to be treated better.. sad

Embarrassing video for his weakest single release in years.

Prince is coming off as desperate to stay in touch with the youth of today but comes across as more out of touch than ever. That video was like someone ripping off Janet in the 90's only with a shoestring budget.

I was trying to complete the sentence "weakest Prince single since...", but I'm unable to find a weaker single in the 35 years of Prince's career. This is just shameful. mad

How about this for an idea for that video?

.

Video opens with someone cooking breakfast. Next shot is Prince in the studio where he's working on the music for this song.

.

His studio phone rings. He answers, "hello?". The voice on the line is the person cooking breakfast. She says, "Breakfast is almost ready."

.

Prince does a quick exhale through the nose (amused mini-laugh), and says, "Breakfast can wait. I gotta finish this."

.

He hangs up, looks a bit pensive momentarily, then smirks. He then plays back what he's layed down, and goes to the vocal booth/console room to lay down newly inspired vocals/lyrics.

.

Shots alternate between Prince alone in the studio and the breakfast being cooked, plated, and served.

.

At the end of the video, Prince walks into the kitchen and says "Thanks."

.

The Woman says, "For what? Breakfast?"

.

Prince says, "4 the idea."

.

She says, "What idea?"

.

Prince says, "Breakfast... can wait."

.

She says, "Again?"

.

Prince says, "Nevermind. Thanks."

.

I love this idea! Prince should listen to his fans more and stop with the Internet Policeing!!

Thanks, Man. I just thought it would work better with the song title, and also show Prince's wit and creative speed and flow he's known to have in the studio.

hmm I wonder if Prince was sitting in the corner looking at a menu and all you can

see was his fro and nothing else, would that make a lot of you happier about the video?

It makes sense again that he wasn't in the video.. a lot of videos don't match up

with the message in a song or have the artist in their own video.

watch videos..I'm not into them like that..they bore me now. bored
