I'm disappointed with what that dancer envisioned for Prince's Breakfast Can Wait video. It could've been so much better with the right direction. I had hopes that since a past dancer (Mayte) was successful in creating a few of Prince's past videos that this one would come out alright, but I was poorly mistaken. Mayte's video and choreography for Prince's The One was beautifully executed. It's one of Prince's best storyline videos to date.

Tell me, what does having a dream sequence about dancing in some back alley, wearing masks sitting around a table have anything to do with wanting to be intimate with your significant other?

Now Janelle Monae's song Primetime is similar in sensuality, but in contrast, her video is dripping with sexiness, classy, and follows a straight storyline. The Breakfast Can Wait video could've easily went this route with Prince doing what he does best; sit down and watch his significant other dance. It could've tied in to the theme if she was cooking breakfast while dancing and he was watching her without her knowing.

It could've been also cool if let's say they went out for breakfast and was in the restaurant waiting, but their surroundings have them thinking of sensual things (the pouring of syrup on pancakes, eatting of sausage, the melting of butter, whipping of eggs, hot steam of the kitchen etc.) and they end up leaving the restaurant before they could receive their meal...

We all know Prince has the ability to let us know what he's thinking about with his eyes and mannerisms.

Yeah I agree. I think the first minute or so of the video "made sense" but then the dancing in the garage thing kinda threw me off. Was I the only one who was thinking about it being a cross between a mid-90s Janet video and Beat It? That's the first thing that came to mind. I also notice HEAVY amounts of make up used on the girls in the video. I would love a makeover like that just to see the wonders that makeup can do

Since the song is about wanting to have more sex and since dancing is a vertical manifestation of a horizontal desire, the video seems to be well suited for the song. The video begins in the kitchen with breakfast, morphs into the dance scene once it is realized that the two are about to have sex, and once the sex (dancing) is finished, the video returns to the kitchen scene where the kitchen is a mess from the intense sex.

But, as usual, Prince can't win. He creates a performance video, and everybody wants a concept video. Then, he creates a concept video, and everybody hates the concept. Gotta love the Org.
