KCOOLMUZIQ

Hello! Eye'm back briefly from my spiritual journey to make a quick review. Eye LOVED the video! Eye only have one complaint(yes KCOOL has a complaint about a Prince "MasterPiece" video!). Eye feel Janet Jackson and her then Choreographer Tina Landon should be credited as a inspiration. Because this heavily borrows from Janet's "That's the way Love Goes" & "if" videos. Daniel Curiel although young & beautiful, wardrobe and hair is almost identical as Janet's in those videos.

Eye don't fault Prince! Because he was not in the video. Plus the Jw's wouldn't have approved of its "sexual content" for him to make an appearance. But the lookalike(who looks just like Andy who I saw and apologized to last week)was a brilliant idea. Other than that minor mishap. Eye thought it was a very well done video! Kudos to The TwinZ also. Very good casting they did!

ONLY on Prince.org lol lol...I learned a loooooong time ago that paying attention to 95% of anything said on this site about a new Prince single/CD/video is a waste of time and energy. Go check the votes on youtube and the write-ups on various media outlets. The "Majority rule" in those cases are overwhelming positive. Seriously...if anyone wants to better enjoy anything Prince puts out, step as far away from review threads on prince.org as possible lol...you may still not like it but the lunacy overload (both positive and negative) from fans doesn't dilute the experience.

Its embarrassing and cheap. Ghetto and not on the level of Prince prestige. Sure its a great opportunity for a young girl but thats about all thats remarkable about this video or collaboration.

I'm not crazy about the video, but Prince has put out a shitload worse in his career. Holy River and Fury absolutely blow...and there were a ton of his cringe-inducing 90s videos that make this one look like a Scorsese film lol.

The production values are terrific, the choreography is actually pretty good, and I'm hella thankful that Prince isn't in the video (he should stay out of more videos imo). It's a bit too Janet Jackson-ish for my tastes (and most of her videos where all about the dancing, not adhering to the "story" of the song).

"Black Sweat", "Violet The Organ Grinder", "Gett Off", "Greatest Romance Ever Sold", "Fury", "Betcha By Gollywow" are videos where dark skinned people were prominently in the video. I don't think Prince owes it to anyone to case dark skinned love interests in his videos.

I agree about certain things you said but for your info brother, Ive peeped it on the social medias and the MAJORITY still is negative. The only people who seem impressed are the uneducated youth that Prince is so pathetically trying to impress. The point is hes trying to stay relevant. This isnt exclusive banter just coming from the org. Ive read comment after comment saying the same thing elsewhere. Let me level with you though and say, that I usually am VERY positive about his releases. I like this track, NOT the awful, wanna-be Janet Jackson cabbage patch kids trying to creatively express a grown and sexy track. Bring back Mayte for all I care because from what I see its a lame, weak dancing, confusing video.

I saw a link to the video on Twitter and because it was so cheap looking and there was no Prince besides a look-alike I honestly thought it was fan made. That can't be a good sign when I think a official video is fan produced.

Plus I really really didn't like the song.

There's no sign of Dave Chappelle, but there's a Chipmunk (unclear which one), pancakes and a slew of dancers dressed in black a la Catwoman (Michelle Pfeiffer's version) in Prince's Breakfast Can Wait video.

There's no sign of Prince, either. Chappelle dressed up like him for the satrical lyric video. Who knew Prince had a sense of humor? The official one, out on Vevo now, stars the director of the video, 18-year old Danielle Curiel, plays a decidedly sexier version of the purple superstar. Who is she? Prince's new protege, it seems. He gave her artistic freedom of the video when he read her proposal for it.

About halfway through the video, one of the Chipmunks chimes in. You have to see it to understand.

Prince, who recently joined the social media wagon, has been drumming up interest in new music, recorded with his 21-piece supergroup The New Power Generation and rock band, 3RDEYEGIRL. Although a release date has yet to be confirmed, the tentatively named Plectrum Electrum, is due out in Jan. 2014.

It's not the music that's boring. It's all the stuff going on that doesn't jive with the song like hot girls, hot outfits (& bondage?) & hot dance moves. I find it distracting and not in sync with the meaning and flow of the song. The song isn't boring. It's the distractions that don't jive with the mood & the music that are boring. Like I said previously, the girls, outfits, dance moves have been done, redone & overdone.

The song is boring as hell. It is Prince doing yet another "this will do" track. I wouldn't be surprised if it is a "bland funky popsong" preset on some keyboard. (Yes people, he has done that before. He has also sampled other people's music and he has appropriated other people's songs without their consent.)

If anyone thinks this is going to be big: good luck with that, and see your doctor for those ongoing delusions. The video starts off awfully: oh look, a girl cooking breakfast -- they could not even be arsed to reverse the archetypical roles. And then it turns into some lame-ass mix between an ancient Janet Jackson video with some untalented Pussycat Dolls-rejects.

And there are the references to a ten year old Dave Chappelle sketch. A real hip & fly guy, that Princey dude.

And after three minutes that stupid high-pitched voice comes in. No doubt regarded as "edgy" by plenty of famz. It isn't.

The video also looks awfully cheap. The location, the dancers, the editing, the colors... All of it is just so tacky and pedestrian. That it has a title sequence and a credit sequence is just baffling.

Oh, and let's not forget this is a song about a 50+ year old man macking on young girls. Not creepy at all. No sir.

Whilst I agree with some of your points good sir, if you listen carefully, this song is a reworking of Come On. Get it right!

Prince fans. Always in the balcony. Never on the stage.

Anyway, I thought the video was pretty good. You can tell they were working with a small budget, but it looked professional. Its cool that he gave an opportunity to an 18 year old to direct the video. How often does that happen? Its nothing wrong with Prince trying to reach a younger market. I mean seriously, who wants to target the grumpy, old fart market?

You "peeped" in on "social medias"? lol...I'm guessing that means places like twitter, facebook and? If so, that social nonsense is just another form of message board blather like we have here on p.org. Please tell me you're not using THAT to validate any of your arguments.

I'll repeat what I said earlier: check out the voting on youtube for the video and check out what MEDIA OUTLETS are saying. You've yet to comment on either (or do either, I'm guessing).

In fact, what the hell, I'll do it for you thumbs up!

"Screw the most important meal of the day! You have to watch the most important clip of the day first! Prince's new song received a royal treatment in its music video by guest director Danielle Curiel, who was given full creative control over filming! With AHmazing dancing and great camera work, Danielle makes it hard to believe that she's only 18! When we were partying like it's 1999 in 1999, she was just 5 years old! So talented!" -PerezHilton

"There's no sign of Prince, either. Chappelle dressed up like him for the satrical lyric video. Who knew Prince had a sense of humor? The official one, out on Vevo now, stars the director of the video, 18-year old Danielle Curiel, plays a decidedly sexier version of the purple superstar." -USA Today

"Prince has finally released the video for his oh-so funky track ‘Breakfast Can Wait.’ Unfortunately, the Purple One doesn’t appear in it. WTF?

Not to worry, it’s still a visually appealing and sensual clip thanks to Prince’s newest discovery — dancer and choreographer Danielle Curiel. Not only did the curly-haired beauty directed the visual, she also becomes Prince’s cross-dressing doppleganger. Breakfast has been served… and it’s hot!" -theboombox.com

"Prince doesn’t show up in director Danielle Curiel’s video for his morning-sex funk jam “Breakfast Can Wait,” and neither, for that matter, does Dave Chappelle. Instead, the video has a foxy young couple using the medium of massive and artfully-lit choreographed dance throwdown to reveal how much they want to bang each other." -stereogum.com

"Prince wants you to know that, if you're feeling kinky early in the morning, breakfast can wait. That's the message in his new video for, well, "Breakfast Can Wait," a song that encourages A.M. risers to embrace their passions." -HuffingtonPost

"Prince has slid back into pop culture's focus recently, hopping onto Twitter and revealing cover art for the "Breakfast Can Wait" single with an iconic image from the Chappelle Show. That single has now gotten the video treatment, featuring another Prince impersonator and some hot kitchen love that segues into a steamy dance routine. Prince always keeps it too real, and it's more of the same that we've come to love in this new video." -Vibe

"...the Purple One has found plenty of sensual fun in the kitchen to keep pop music fans engaged in this work directed by and starring 18-year-old Danielle Curiel.

The track is a pulsing R&B slow-jam filled with rhythmic bumps and pauses as Curiel’s mis-en-scene alternates between what looks to be an attempt to prepare a morning-after meal in the kitchen and a tightly choreographed dance number in old brick workout space." -L.A. Times

the video shows why dancer/choreographer Danielle Curiel was lurking on the fringes of the concert all night long.

Not only did Curiel direct the clip, but she appears in several roles, including as Prince (pictured above). It's a different portrayal than the one Dave Chappelle pulled off a few years back, and a healthy creative partnership. Prince himself is not in the video at all, but his syrupy voice is all over the place as Curiel's detailed choreography dances through several different sets." -citypages

"In the Prince-free clip, directed by dancer Danielle Curiel, a couple plays out a most important meal of the day-eschewing fantasy before a sudden smash cut sends everyone to a dance studio and finally to a carefully-choreographed roundtable featuring a bunch of freaky masks and a whiff of Budweiser Black Crown.

Check it out below, and dig Prince’s cross-dressing doppelganger." -Entertainment Weekly

"Prince has brought back classic choreography in the music video for his latest single, “Breakfast Can Wait.”

The song...has now been graced with an over-the-top video that features a female impersonator, the most epic dance routine this side of Janet Jackson clips in the ’90s and yes, a pancake." -radio.com

"We've heard the super-sultry song, of course, and we've seen the Dave Chappelle-starring cover art. But now there's the Danielle Curiel-directed clip above to consider, and it's far more impressive than the low-budget "Screwdriver" clip that you had to pay to see." -Spin

"The video features a variety of colorful scenes that only Prince could deliver. “Breakfast Can Wait” features everything from slightly seductive kitchen escapades to leather-laden choreographed dance-offs." -Paste Magazine

"...it flings the bacon straight off the table and leaves Chappelle at home in order to get to dancier places more apropos for an earnest homage to a.m. fornication. It's a perfect jumping-off point for people who are pro-Prince but haven't figured out exactly what's going on with the tweets — nothing but a smooth Prince jam, some choreography, and abundant lyrical allusions to sex here." -grantland.com

"You Have To See This: Prince’s “Breakfast Can Wait”

The Purple Rain star has just released the new video for the track and, while there’s no time for coffee or grits, there is plenty of time for dancing, snapping and getting down, Prince-style, in the clip." -Time

"The visuals focus on a couple that heat up the kitchen, for lack of a better term. It also cuts to a dozen or so dancers in a studio working on a choreographed number that's just as hot and tempting." -complex.com

"And with the track's music video, director Danielle Curiel adds some kinky images to the sex-as-food dirty talk. It's a fitting companion: Lovers flirt in their kitchen against a backdrop of splattered breakfast foods, as Prince mingles slap-bass with his supple falsetto." -Rolling Stone

"Look like Prince‘s uncut official video for “Breakfast Can Wait” is here. Watch all 4 minutes and seconds of this choreographed sexiness. Like we said when we first posted on it, This is what a Prince song is supposed to sound like–and the video seems designed to show the viral generation what a music video is supposed to look like as well." -okplayer.com

I could do this all day. And notice that I said I wasn't all that crazy about the video so I'm not trying to convince you or anyone that they should like it. But interestingly enough, not a single comment of it looking "ghetto" or that Prince should be "embarrassed" lol...obviously they didn't watch the same video you did. But I sometimes forget that "social media" sites are a breeding ground for anonymous folks trying to one-up each other with how they express their views. It's not enough to say "I don't like it"...you have to be violently opposed to whatever you experienced (or conversely, deliriously floored by the brilliance of it all lol).

And for the record, I didn't pick a "random comment"...I picked your comment, mainly because it was asinine (and mainly because it was posted right as I posted mine lol). But take heart, in that it wasn't the only asinine comment in a thread chock full of 'em...it was just the closest one. wink

What's disturbing about it?

When I found out this chick is 18, my first thought was, "I wonder if Prince is sitting back somewhere saying, 'Yeah, I got a chick 40 years younger than me! I'm the man..."

THAT is what is possibly disturbing about this.

If people would stop assuming he sticks his dick in every pussy that crosses his path, it wouldn't be disturbing. What's disturbing is people assuming he fucks every attractive woman he encounters. Don't fantasize about HIM and then damn the fantasy... lol

The people he has shown in this video is the demographic he so desperately wants: 20-30, all physically-fit light-skinned blacks and latinos. And ONLY this demographic. These are the real-world personifications of all the sketches he did for NPGMC and NPG Exodus releases.

.

To put it another way, guys that look like a younger him in some way and girls that look like a younger Vanity.

.

Problem is, this is not really Prince's fanbase. Not from what I've seen at concerts or fanclub meets or anything like that. His core demographic is only slightly younger than him, situated between 40-50 and pretty diverse.

.

Aside from that, a terrible video that has NOTHING to do with the song being played. The only redeeming moment for me was when they were kneeling by a table with masks on . . . I thought to myself that could've been the premise for an entirely different video. Reminded me of "The Max".

I LOVE Prince but this is what I never really liked about him. It sends the message that dark skin or brown skin African American/Latino women arent pretty enougth to be on t.v. etc I dont have a problem if that his "personal preference" for a mate but since he has such a diverse fanbase I would think he would be a little bit more open minded to different looks and skin tones.

*****

On the video: The video looks like any other music video we have out now. Nice looking girl, explicit booty dancing etc I will admit I did like the table scene where the dancers were dancing with their hands. I actually thought that was pretty creative. Im not sure why Prince didnt make an appearance in the video that would have been cool. I'm up for artists not appearing in their videos but their has to be a premise or a story plot that makes sense. This video has nothing to do with the song. Its a great song but the video waters it down. Prince is not really known to make creative music videos anyway so I guess it doesnt matter...

I can't believe he never put dark skinned people in the videos..probably we aren't rememberin'.. hmmm I'm thinking..

Nona Gaye is the standard (only?) example
"We've never been able to pull off a funk number"

"That's becuase we're soulless auttomatons"

My impression the video was a safe way to go. It was a colder version of that's the way love goes. The video could have benefited from more artistic quality like the hands playing on the table (that was probably thrown in as a last ditch save). Marketing value was borrowed not stirred. She did the job.

Yep. That's what life is about. Giving the young the opportunity. Someone gave young Prince himself a shot at a young age too. It is alwasy cool to see people not forget that as they go through life. That is also why I respect the man too. With the young Third Eye Girls as well as older artists like Maceo and Chacka he has gave props to. People forget it's about people. Passing it on.

Due out in January 2014!? LOLZ

yeahthat

After waiting nearly a year, this is quite funny. (And sad).

2013 will be big? and now 2014 will be big? eek

lol lol lol

I'm not crazy about the video, but Prince has put out a shitload worse in his career. Holy River and Fury absolutely blow...and there were a ton of his cringe-inducing 90s videos that make this one look like a Scorsese film lol.

The production values are terrific, the choreography is actually pretty good, and I'm hella thankful that Prince isn't in the video (he should stay out of more videos imo). It's a bit too Janet Jackson-ish for my tastes (and most of her videos where all about the dancing, not adhering to the "story" of the song).

We really arent disagreeing on much. The problem is you picked a random comment that disagreed with your own to vessel all your self imposed hype of what really is a tasteless, shit video.

But take heart, in that it wasn't the only asinine comment in a thread chock full of 'em...it was just the closest one. wink

Congrats to Prince for creating another media hit! I knew he would. It's all over the radio here also..Good thing he doesn't listen to the pissy critics on here!
giggle
eye will ALWAYS think of prince like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. eye mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that prince wasn't of this earth, eye would not have been that surprised. R.I.P. prince
