I like it. it's ok. i prefer the weird new age background music on the site. which, incidentally, should be in your tempfolder titled "prince - lotusflow3r" clocking in at 1:53 minutes. It's called TRACK 17 and AMBIENT LOOP in MY cache. I also have the TV_PROMO_SND, which is a bad quality blow-up of what is playing on the television.

I fucking love it! I know it's essentially the same thing as Chocolate Box, btu what turned me off about that one honestly was the lyrics and the vocals. As an instrumental, it's pretty sweet. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

The form is tight and fun. The four note hook "synth lyric" is dark but funny. As I said, its catchy. This reminds me of when he came out with "Kiss" and freaked everybody out. He's been playing an Anotherloverholenyohead/Rock Lobster mash-up since...hmmm...2006-ish? He played it at the Super Bowl press conference in 2007, for sure - and it was a staple during the Vegas and London residencies. Are you serious? That sounds awesome! I really have been missing out by not being able to do the concert thing. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

Cool website. I like the feel so far and the tape deck brings back memories for me. Ya'll know our age group. [Edited 1/31/09 20:53pm] Totally agree. One of the reasons I got into Prince in the first place was all the extended mixes and extended/instruemental B-sides u got on the 12" vinyls. Love this tune, and love the guitar sound. Hope this website lives up to its promise.

chocbox redux or no, i enjoyed the track. goofy title, yes, but still a lot of fun to listen to. it's one of the princiest prince jams i've heard in a long time. nothing epic or career-defining - just quirky and fun. i'm into it.

Definitely like the instrumental version better. As others have said here, the vocals through me a bit on Chocolate Box. In fact the instrumental version he popped on the site of Never be anyone ... was sweet also.
His beats and instrumentation are great here and they stand right up front when not covered by the vox. BTW. Colonized Mind is really turning into a sleeper for me. The guitar "easter eggs" are wicked.

Wow, this joint kicks some major bootay! It's like "Chocolate Box 2.0": same melody, but souped up a bit. I agree with those who love the guitar on this; it's very unique and very FUNKY. He should re-record "Chocolate Box" with this music and an autotune-free vocal track...that would ROCK! Prince, if by some miracle you read this, please consider these slight changes. I don't like the guitar as much... messes up the dancing IMO. Its hilarious reading all these people now liking the song (not necessarily you) because it has guitar in it Its the same song Chocolate Box... and honestly it sounded better too me without the guitar and with the lyrics. Which really worked Dance... Let me see you dance

It reminds me a lot of the minimalistic funk tracks on the '16' album by Madhouse (although a bit more 'poppy-fied').
Anyone agree? | |

Another observation
Both 'chocolate box' and (especially) 'disco jellyfish' have a demo-like sound IMO. Listen to the electric piano solo on the latter for example, it sounds like a 'sketch' for a solo, and not as lively as the instrumental parts you usually hear on an officialy released Prince song. Could it be the 'end result' of chocolate box/disco jellyfish on MLPsound will sound different, more 'fleshed out'?

I agree though, does sound like a rough draft.

It is a jellyfish simply grooving 2 disco!! Google it in action & u'll see the energy, and feel the flow of it, all while pondering the track..
check it out..No bones. No brains. But what a sting! Love [Edited 2/1/09 8:31am]

Hmmm I like the fact that it's 'different' to most things we've been hearing recently but it still sounds rather bland to me.
I find it laughable that people are comparing it to any of the jazz fusion madhouse tracks just because its a funk instrumental.

I see this song playing on a "Discovery channel" or PBS program like "How Thing Are Made"
