I like the song. The thing is it's driving me crazy because I haven't been able to get it out of my head. Yesterday when I was in Anatomy and Physiology class I couldn't get that beat out of my head. When I first listened to it I didn't know if I liked it but now I can't stop listening to it.

Sky you are correct, it is VERY similar to undisputed. I still love it though, and much prefer this Chocolate Box instrumental than the vocal version.

For some reason Prince does something new to the table and they expect to hear something made era 1980 to 1988.

That's the ultimate false statement on the org. Very rarely, if ever, do you read a critique of Prince's music which tails off into "Gee, I just wish he sounded like he did in the 80's." And the irony is, it's the fambots that drool at the first hint of a Linn and start proclaiming, just like Prince has since Rave, about a "return to the classic sound." Look at how many people got excited when John Blackwell mentioned 'new' music that sounded like Controversy. Part II. Yawn. The truth of the matter is, people who are critical of Prince's output are asking for music which looks forward, not backward. It would be nice if the sanctimonious blather in his lyrics was scaled back too, but given how he's become the Colonized Mind to lead all Colonized Minds, that's likely asking for too much.

But I'll grant that Discojellyfish does sound like something from the future. Albeit a synthetic, lifeless future, that's devoid of even a vague, hazy sense of purpose. Though I'm sure the powers at be at Nintendo might be interested in the piece for a future game.

If only Prince could set release dates for his records as reliable as the usual suspects coming out of the hiding to continue their bitching everytime something new appears on the horizon... biggrin

I love that eighties funk sound, so this song is right up my alley.

Never heard "Chocolate Box" though, I was anticipating the albums too much!

Bring 'em on, Prince!!!

I just had a thought...

What if:

DiscoJellyFish is actually the background music to an interactive game soon the be discovered on the new site...

Not sure why but I kind of have this image of a big fat disco dancing jellyfish swimming around in the river and looking for hidden shells that would contain musical surprises or videos...

that song would make more sense then no?

This would have been only a B side on one his great albums.

I'm still waiting for the P Control "maxi" single. That song could easily have been spun out into 4-5 songs, disco, house — I bet Prince could have even sung it as an acoustic gospel hymn considering what he did to Violet The Organ Grinder, Witness and The Beautiful Experience.

I don't think they're comparable but if anything, it's Batdance regressed. As kitschy as Batdance is, it's ultimately nothing more than a novelty song, it's got a great guitar solo, energy and sense of fun. This latest Nintendo jingle has none of that.
No hard feelings.

I can't BELIEVE I'm going to agree with Wall here.. (No offense sir. razz)

But I agree 100%. This song is pretty much complete garbage, save for a few interesting guitar "moments."

Otherwise, it's absolutely terrible, and quite frankly, I'm shocked as to how many people here dig this crap. *shudder*

Give me "Colonized Mind" or even "Here I Come" ANY day of the week..

Please. Hey Ya is one of the best pop songs of the past ten years. Comparing this throwaway rancid slice of redundant Pro Tools slop to Hey Ya is just about as mad as the thread that compares Prince to Mozart.

What's more, Prince is on record having stated that there is no way Outkast could have known Hey Ya would be a hit, which boggles the mind as it's a damn near a perfect slice of pop. The fact that Prince thought it was sort of dumb luck that Outkast picked it as a single and had a hit with it further shows how completely out of touch he is with what makes a good single and how to construct a good pop song.
No hard feelings.

the lyrics.

I never said there was anything wrong with Pro Tools or synthetic music. That is, of course, if the artist using such methods is able to construct something at least vaguely resembling art from them. The only thing Prince has going for him in Discojellyfish is a few interesting guitar lines. He is, if nothing else, capable of magic when he plays guitar, but a few licks from his six-string can't turn this toad of a song into a Prince.
No hard feelings.

Prince is obviously looking for a new audience with this "song". I see it as a sign of the times the song missies depth or soul if you like.

It sounds like the outcome of a teenager's first attempt to do something on his first synthesizer neutral

Although I have HIGH hopes for the Lotus Flow3r album after hearing Colonized Mind, the first impressions of the website are mildly spoken disappointing.

Sure a matter of taste etc. But it looks SO unimaginative and it so childish having to click on several items to get some info.

And yes, I do realize I am getting older smile

Anyone denying that Prince got A LOT of inspiration from the "music scores" from 70s and 80s porn should rent some classics just for this purpose, lol.
