Definitely like the instrumental version better. As others have said here, the vocals through me a bit on Chocolate Box. In fact the instrumental version he popped on the site of Never be anyone ... was sweet also.
His beats and instrumentation are great here and they stand right up front when not covered by the vox. BTW. Colonized Mind is really turning into a sleeper for me. The guitar "easter eggs" are wicked. | |

Wow, this joint kicks some major bootay! It's like "Chocolate Box 2.0": same melody, but souped up a bit. I agree with those who love the guitar on this; it's very unique and very FUNKY. He should re-record "Chocolate Box" with this music and an autotune-free vocal track...that would ROCK!  Prince, if by some miracle you read this, please consider these slight changes.  I don't like the guitar as much... messes up the dancing IMO. Its hilarious reading all these people now liking the song (not necessarily you) because it has guitar in it

Another observation
Both 'chocolate box' and (especially) 'disco jellyfish' have a demo-like sound IMO. Listen to the electric piano solo on the latter for example, it sounds like a 'sketch' for a solo, and not as lively as the instrumental parts you usually hear on an officialy released Prince song. Could it be the 'end result' of chocolate box/disco jellyfish on MLPsound will sound different, more 'fleshed out'? | |
