Anyone else think it's just an intro?

Workin' up a black sweat, when he's not sweating at all?

Seems thin, but promising -- we'll see.

Ok, I'm back. Had to go to the Madden Bowl! First new Prince songs, then a new kick ass Prince video, and then ME with a video camera in room full of young, fine, millionaire NFL football players! Good God, I love my life!!!

Back to Prince...

I just checked my cell phone messages and I had 22 voicemails from folks that can't normally understand my fixation with Prince, telling me they saw the video or heard the song, and needed to know if I was alright! Cause they knew if they were digging it, they just knew I was in freaking 7th heaven and going absolutely out of my mind. They were right!!

I can't even describe the high I'm on and it has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that Absolut Vodka was a major sponsor of the Madden Bowl. Well, maybe a just little! giggle

However, I was HIGH long before I got there! I beared witness to the fact that the Prince I know and love IS BACK!! For me, that's all that matters!!

I know I enjoyed the hell out of 2004 and the whole "Musicology" experience!! It's just now the 3rd of February and 2006 is already off the motherfucking hook!

If tonight is any indication of what's to come...Bring it on...Bring it on!!!

I know there are SOME that just ain't feeling it...and to you I say...you have my motherfucking sympathies...because while you are busy hating...I'll be busy enjoying the motherfucking ride...2006 style!!

Let the congregation say AMEN!!!!

Nice but too bad Pharell is better at doing these kinds of songs (Frontin is more of a hit)...

Excuse me, but, Frontin' is treading in Prince territory. Get it straight. Let's go back 2 at least the 1999 album. Must I point out (D.M.S.R. or Lady Cab Driver). How about the song S-E-X on the Scandalous Sex Suite EP. Pharrell was still in school when these songs came out. So, I repeat Pharrell is treading in Prince territory. Prince is merely showing us who created that sound and of course that creator is Prince. Can I get an Amen from somebody. Thank you.

Let the church say Amen! biggrin

God this guy is getting SO boring, tedius electro-funk by numbers with even less melody than Musicology.

He should have made a few moves...cuz... It's a groove!!! lol

And I love that sripey suit!!! love

I think, although I might be wrong, that Prince is done dancing. Maybe somewhere along the line, he injured himself (perhaps in the early NPG days?).

There have been rumors, but thankfully Prince was always more a musician who could put on a REALLY good show dancing. Now, he just puts on a really good show musically.

I highly doubt Prince is "done" dancing.. I just think he wanted
to come across as a smooth MFer in this video.. just kinda
hanin' and chillin'... lol lol
and he danced ALOT in the Musicology tour.. so I highly doubt
he hurt himself bakc in the NPG days!!!
He IS getting older tho... and I am sure he has some aches and pains
like we all do.. and he probably wouldn't get down as much as he
did 10 years ago.. but I think we WILL see Prince shake his Thang
again some time soon. wink

why does he keep touching his nose?

It's an NPG Music Club thing. Members of the club have often asked in the forums for P to tap his nose, as a kind of secret sign or namecheck for the club.

I can't see any other reason for it...

I just got back from the Tamar show in NYC and Prince danced a little bit--no splits or anything, but I highly doubt his dancing days are over...

I'm loving it!

God, I'm so relieved after that Te Amo Corazon. It's not bad, it just doesn't hit my funky soul like Black Sweat does! wink
Besides I give this song (and the video) a much better chance of succeeding commercially. Although it could be a little too funky. But to me, there's no such thing as too funky! wink

I'm wondering why he didn't think of a new 'dance' name. "I got a brand new dance and it's called the...". In the live song, he said 'Shake-a-pudding'. I can understand why he deleted that, but come up with something else then! Otherwise I adore the song and I've listened to it like 20 times in the last two hours... clapping

I hope they market and distribute it right. I want to hear this on the radio!

One clarification on the PHARELL COMPARISON:

Of course Prince came first. Of course Prince's legacy will be much greater.

But guys like Pharell or Andre 3000 are making him sound old TODAY. Just like James Brown became irrelevant in the 1980s when Prince and others took over. Face it or not, that is a fact. And it does not imply that Prince and JB are not among the greatest artists of the 20th century...

I am simply talking about relevance in TODAY's music world. And there is no doubt that any Pharell song (Frontin is one, Let's get blown is another, I could quote quite a few -note that I am not even a huge Pharell fan) sounds fresher and more innovative than Black Sweat. Watching the video, I had the odd
feeling that even Prince himself does not seem to really believe in the song. He seems to have lost his faith over the past 10 years (Rainbow Children being an exception, for good reasons: he may have lost his faith in human beings, his faith in wild sex, but he has found a true faith in Jehovah...that's why he really poured his heart into TRC)

I really liked it! I was pleasantly surprised! I really wasn't feeling Te Amo, and that got me scared for the upcoming album. But "Black Sweat" has totally changed that! I'm really excited about 3121 and can't wait to hear what else is on there!!!! WOW!

I have rarely read such an amount of hah! in a few sentences.

Whether you like it or not, this video clip is funky, sensual and sexy as hell. Prince is enjoying himself BIG TIME.
Black Sweat is the nasty, dirty, funky Prince many of us have missed for a long time. This song is simply funkastic.
problem is it does not mean the album will be good. Especialluy when I hear B, L&B...such a boring R&B crap. Very well produced, nice guitar work but still...

Maybe it's only me, but doesn't that chair Prince is sitting on look a tad suggestive in shape? Or - something? And then how that dancer starts caressing it on the inside? Makes me think certain...thoughts. lol

Not unless you consider a chair shaped as an upside down version of the female pleasure center suggestive. wink

And how pimp is it to be sitting on the clitoral hood, peeping over a magazine like you can deliver without prep time while your girl “gets the car started” with labial stimulation; almost as funky as these 3 inches desperately in need of 12.

Prince has shot himself in the “good foot” a lot lately (“Hot Wit U”, “Life ‘O’ the Party”, “Mr. Happy”) but “Black Sweat” is the genuine article; intelligent, freeze-dried, minimalist funk with tasteful smatterings of spine-tingling synth bass that earns its stripes, its swagger, its ass bobbing testimonials delivered at the handle of a cup of tea.

And every great dance track needs at least one out-of-body experience that makes you oblivious to that sweat stain working its way up your backside or unconscious to the hateful glares the stranger you’re assaulting on the subway is shooting in your direction. Here the nirvana springs forth from the Prince announced “breakdown” with 43 seconds to go. Time slows down, your grand mama’s lampshade spins with pinpoint lights, all become great dancers, and absolutely nothing is out of reach.

One of Prince’s finest moments on the dance floor; if Prince were 25 it would be a surefire smash. At 47 and with countless commercial missteps over the past decade I’m still holding on to the notion that he has to deliver one of the great songs of the century (“When Doves Cry” or “Kiss”) to overcome the overwhelming odds of such a narrow, superficial marketplace.

Regardless of such trivialities, I’ll be forever moving in “one…two…three”.

That's the kind of stuff I used to hear when singles like Kiss and SOTT were released back in the day.
Black Sweat is at the level of Prince's great 80s singles. It is 100% infectious dirty funk.
Great Tune.

You're so right! I think even Prince is starting to realize that thís is his style. You can't copy that. No other artist can pull off this kind of funk right now. Pharrell and Kanye West come close, but they're not funky people, they make funky music sometimes.
