Big loss for the Pats - Kevin Faulk tore his ACL.

Brandon Jacobs was fined $10K for the helmet toss.

Broncos can't avoid tragedy. This is the third time in four years they've dealt with the death of a teammate.

First, that sucks about the news for the Broncos. I feel for them.

Second, as a Pats fan, that seriously sucks. Just traded Maroney (though he was always injured), now we have Fred Taylor who's been one play away from the next injury his whole life. Faulk is gone. And our run game was never strong to begin with. Why didn't the Patriots take Tomlinson instead. Everyone knows old Chargers stop in NE before retiring.

I sure ass hope so! Dude's on my bench on my fantasy team and I need a WR lol Although, I would rather him go to Washington and help out my boy McFabbulous. The NFC is really up for grabs this year, although now that Vick is the starting QB, Philly might become the new favorite confused

Yes i have. Maroney 1st season 745 yds rushing on 175 attempts in which he

shared the load with starter Corey Dillon in a rb by committee system and also

a passing game that likes to spread teams out even on first and second down.

Pretty damn good if you ask me.

Maroney 2nd season as a starter 835 yds rushing on 185 carries for a 4.5 avg

and again sharing the backfield with Sammy Morris. Oh by the way Maroney's

production was enough to help them go 18-0 during the regular season.

Then his 3rd season he blew out his knee and hasn't been quite the same but

Pats gave up on him quickly by signing Fred Taylor.

Your claim that he's never been effective in the league tells me you've

Did either of those performances rank him in the Top Ten among rushers in the NFL in those years?

I never claimed Maroney was Ladanian Tomlinson. My main point was that he

was an effective back his first two years with the Pats. The stats are right in

front of you. He did a lot of good things for the Pats his first two seasons.

You have to remember the Patriots are a pass first football team. They like

to spread defenses out much the way the Saints do. Wes Welker and Kevin

Faulk are more likely an option on 3rd and 1 versus any running back in their system.

Then I guess we have different definitions of an "effective back."

Saw this at another site:

Rumour – Cowboys on the verge of firing Wade Phillips

Written by Kevin Lee
on September 22, 2010

UPDATE – 2pm EST – Jon Gruden has a clause in his MNF contract that won’t allow him to leave his analyst position to take the Cowboys HC position if Phillips was fired. As well, Tony Dungee has gone on record as saying he won’t coach this year.

It shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone who follows the NFL that Dallas Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips is on a short leash. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has gone on the record saying that the 0-2 start is “quite a setback” for the organization.

Word now comes from two great sources close to the organization that Jones is gauging interest from a few former NFL head coaches currently working on TV networks. CBS in-studio analyst Bill Cowher is Jones number one choice to replace Phillips. His second choice is NFL Network/Fox analyst Brian Billick. Both Cowher and Billick have Super Bowl rings, something Jones really wants to have when it comes to who will be leading his struggling team.

Many feel the players have tuned out Phillips and last Friday was a clear example of how this situation continues to snowball. Phillips got into details on Monday about Friday’s practice. “Do I think it could be better? Sure,” Phillips said. “Do I think we had a bad practice Friday? Yes, we told them that in the meeting. We went back over it and said, ‘Hey, we didn’t practice well enough.’” How does the same thing occur that has happened over the past two years under Phillips watch? Enough is enough and now is the time for Jones to pull the plug on him. It’s plain to see that the team has no identity and have tuned out Phillips.

I am told that if the Cowboys lose to the Houston Texans on Sunday that Jones won’t hesitate in firing Phillips. Two other possible candidates that have surfaced are Marty Schottenheimer and Steve Mariucci. Schottenheimer who last patrolled the sidelines for San Diego back in 2006-07, was fired by the Chargers in February of 2007. His 5-13 playoff record is definitely not appealing. While Mariucci has a 3-4 playoff record, he hasn’t coached since the 2005 season after a three year stint in Detroit.

Regardless, of what happens in Houston this Sunday, Jones needs to fire Phillips if he hopes to have his team in the playoffs come January. I for one truly believe one of the 4 names I have mentioned will be wearing that Star on their hat come early next week.

More to come as the week unfolds. I can be contacted at kevinlee@prosportsblogging.com anytime.

rolleyes Getting rid of Phillips won't make a diff if they don't get rid of Garrett, Campo, get a decent DC, hell even their kicking game is FUCKED UP. Ain't shit working right over there. It's too late in the game to implement those types of major changes and seriously expect to make a run for the SB. The only way they'll be in Cowboys Stadium in February is as spectators.

I love me some JJ but damn he don't know shit about picking a coach. Hell, he let Sean Payton go. pissed

If the Carolina Panthers weren't so inept, Giants would be staring at 0-3. Same stupid shit.

It looks like Coughlin has lost the team. I watched Eli throw that ugly ass pass on

one highlight reel. They have too much talent to go up in flames the way they're going.

Can't put this on the coach. Not his fault Eli played like a fucktard, or that the linemen lost their cool. The coaches told them all week the Titans are a chippy team, so don't let them bait you. Players didn't fucking listen. Carl Banks said it best - they're not making the committment to doing the little things right.

Jets pulled out a tough one tonight. The offense will be even better once Santonio comes back, and Revis and Pace are healthy.

Romo found his mojo, and Vick is starting to look like his old self. Should be fun against the Redskins next week.

Jets could have easily been 3-0 if the Jets coaches would not have pacified Mark

Sanchez and the offense week one.

Correction on Vick. He's playing better than he did in Atlanta.

The old Michael Vick would have done one of two things when the pocket collapsed:

-Try to run east and west and create a play out of nothing without thinking twice
-Throw a completely retarded pass that would result in a turnover more times than not

Now he stays in the pocket as long as possible, and throws a bullet pass to an open WR. Taking off isn't his first option anymore. Definitely more mature on the field.

Vick has never played QB this well. NEVER.

He's learning how to play the position. He said he takes things seriously and is doing more filmwork. Amazing how prison time humbles a mfer.

Bills cut Trent Edwards, 49ers fire their OC.
