CHICAGO vs Detroit

Right call on second, third, fourth looks at that particular play.

Mr. Johnson had both hands on the ball as he was going down (he did not maintain possession for the entire ''process of the catch") it looks like ol' boy was more interested in getting up celebrating quickly instead of taking care of buiness first. If I were his coach I'd get in his ass. Even so the Bears, have a lot work to do because they didn't look impressive at all.

BULLSHIT!

He caught the ball with both hands, landed both of his feet and his ass, while still maintaining full control and possession of the ball. He let it go as he was coming back up! TOUCHDOWN!!!!

yeahthat

Exactly. Don't like the rules, change 'em. Until then EVERYONE knows what you're supposed to do make a valid catch, there's no gray area. shrug

Was it the same ref? From the same angle? Under the same conditions? No.

I meant there's no gray area about what is expected from the PLAYER catching the ball. The ref's perspective is always subjective so it's up to the player to eliminate that.

It appears Johnson didn't know the rule(s) or as I said he was to quick to celebrate something that never was. That's why the head coach Schwartz wasn't trippin' about the call. The players on the Bears sidelines said, Coach Lovie glance up and said, that's not a touchdown went on settin' up the next play

Oh, right. Well, the same thing happened in the previous superbowl with Santonio. The players know they run a risk of getting a bad call if they don't maintain control of the ball and they may get get a ref who gives it to them or not. Part of the game, until the rules change. shrug

I wouldn't care if Mean Joe Green broke it down in my livingroom. I've been watching football since high school and pretty much religiously for the last 10 years because my husband loves the game so much. I know a touchdown when I see one and that was a touchdown!

First Chris said that their knee has to be down...as they were replaying the video and everyone could clearly see that Johnson's knee WAS down as he started getting up. THEN he said, "Or it has to be both feet down and then they have to physically hand the ball to the Ref."

That's a bunch of bullshit and they know it but that's cool. When you piss off a pack of Lions, somebody's getting mauled! RRROOOAARRRR!!!! GO LIONS!!!! cool

Rules: Right call

Common sense: wrong call.

I don't believe common sense dictates that it was the wrong call.

The issue was possession of the football.

The appearance of what the call should be is not common sense. That's a subjective interpretation of what is being viewed.

Common sense dictates that it was the right call because it conformed to the rules of the game.

The game is played within the rules.

If according to the rules, it is not a TD, then common sense would not dictate that failure to conform to the rule is a wrong call.

I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.
