So I got the album and its not that bad as I expected.
There are some great tunes like Desnudate Elastic Love (how DARE she rip off my title to one of MY songs from 2005!?) S. For Breakfast Lift Me Up Glam Prima Donna
The other uptempo tunes come off a bit late in sounding "new" or fresh. And the theme really stays the same on most of the uptempo tracks. The slow songs are totally diffrent than the upbeat songs and it sounds WAY off center. Maybe if she stuck with one theme it could have been pulled off correctly. Straight Jacket Funk Affair
Album plays and love for vinyl records.

While I like Aguilera, but am not a fan of the album, let's keep the numbers in check. The #3 is correct.
The album sold about 346,000 copies. "Wow, that's horrible."
Yes well Prince hit #2 with only a few thousand more than that (and Keith Urban was only 3000 ahead of that to be #1).
So did Prince's album fail, or did Aguilera's do almost as well?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Actually, Identity was CORRECT that "Bionic" sold 110k-- "Back To Basics" opened with 346k to debut @ #1.(The article is on Billboard.com) Also, Lotusflow3r sold 168k its opening week, which is more than "a few thousand", so Aguilera's album did not do nearly as well as Lotusflow3r. I got the Deluxe version of Bionic and once I made my own playlist-which is 14 songs-I actually enjoy it. Did not have to do that with Lotusflow3r at all.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
What does Prince have to do with this? and Bionic did open with 110K first week. Which is really bad for someone that took a 4 year break. I think Prince's last album opened at about 168K.

well he is the HYPE right now, hes got the big money behind him, i heard his and im like OK whats the deal, hes alright, but there are tons better than him that get no play and hype, so numbers are numbers and meaningless. lets be real though this album was doomed from the start, it was getting trashed left and right for almost 3-4 months, everyone was like gaga this and gaga that like that chick is an original, please, she is the fucking Lenny Kravitz of Dance Music. So she sold to her base, again it was a bad strategy, the whole "bondage" and shit to shock, that stuff was shocking about 50 years ago, and hasnt been since, not even when Madonna did it, it was played then which is why it bombed for her then. It bombed for Rihanna too on this album, and the only reason she is getting some back is because they (at the label) did a 360 image change and are trying to save millions that they invested in that record. So xtina sold what she sold, we all knew it, blah blah blah, meaningless bullcrap once again. This is a flop I don't care what excuse some people use. And beaten by Glee & Twighlight is just embarassing when you're coming off a 4 year break with a new full-fledged studio album. But it was expected after her singles underperformed.
She'll fail to find a 'miracle' a la Rihanna with 'Rude Boy' and it will struggle to reach 700k.
Back to the drawing board.

Prince opening with 50k more but without a single/video is about having a dedicated fanbase. Christina Aguilera never had an identity, she waited too long between albums and released a single that could have been done by any female act out there at the moment. It's a total disaster for her but she should have seen it coming, she had too much faith in the "I've been around for a decade" shit and though she was invincible. I wouldn't be surprised at all if in a few weeks she started to pull an MJ and openly bash her label for "not promoting" and stuff like that. Her ego is too big to admit that and realize she's a two hit wonder like Toni Braxton and the best she can hope for is a Vegas residency. Oh well.
Meanwhile, the album is about to break the record of the biggest drop from #1 in the UK. There will be a 70% drop in the US too most likely, this will struggle to pass 400k. She already had 2 singles ignored by radio, it's not a Beyonce situation where 2 singles did moderately and the 3rd blew up, Christina won't have the luck.

why anyone is surprised is beyond me. the jig has been up for awhile now on XXXtina. it was plain bad luck to have stolen from a virtual unknown in 2008 who became the biggest pop star since madonna. and then she's not even on the record! a duet btwn xtina and gaga would have been huge. the bitch went out of her way to work with every other 'innovative' female artist, save janelle monae, but not gaga. sad, really. plus look where her contemporaries are. she came out in 99. i don't see j.lo or ashanti blowing up the charts. people want to make out that shes big as britney, but she never was. album sales, ticket sales...just in sheer numbers. I'll leave it alone babe...just be me

Christina Aguilera's 'Bionic' Disappoints -- But Why?2 Comments
By John Mitchell Posted Jun 17th 2010 02:16PM
Christina Aguilera's long-in-the-works album 'Bionic' debuted at number three on the Billboard charts. The record moved approximately 110,000 copies in its first week in release, marking the weakest launch yet for an Aguilera studio set and falling short of soundtracks for 'Twilight: Eclipse' and 'Glee.'
That's less than a third of what Aguilera's last album (a two-disc set, no less), 'Back to Basis,' sold in 2006. So what went wrong? Well, a few things. Without a hit lead single to kick it off, interest in the disc was low, and Aguilera has been awash in bad press after canceling her summer tour and seemingly turning her back on her greatest asset, her multi-octave voice, in favor of electronic dance music that many critics felt was already dated by the time the album hit stores.

The low sales in the UK is due to a poor album but also the news that she slagged off Ga Ga is not going to go down well here in the UK....

Im not sure we want to make a statement that because U got stomped by "glee" and "twilight" that is an embarassment, since everyone and the mother got stomped by High School Musical every volume, one of those HSM sountracks sold more than the last 10 prince albums added up, and HSM never has had a single or radio hit. Just for the record - Britney's Blackout sold more on the first day than Bionic has so far and that album had zero promo and a star going crazy.
That performance was horrific, the nail in the coffin was that god awful scream she does halfway through.

I feel bad that she's flopping. I downloaded it but I'm not buying. I don't really like it and it's not electronic or futuristic like she promised it would be. It sounds like Stripped only the songs aren't as good.

Jewel is on her own now and has been for the last 3 albums, so everything sold is cheddar to her basically, which is the point in the end. So jewel selling what 70-80,000 and maybe 150,000 overall when its done, on her own label which now promo, i think we can do the math on that. thats called having a following, so if Xtina was on her own or whomever we would have a thread on, we wouldnt even have this convo.
