I fucked up - Glitter soundtrack *was* released first. So this *is* just like Glitter. Cool!!!

except Bionic's contributors don't include Rick James, Jimmy Jam, and Larry Blackmon

Yes, and Glitter actually had some hot tracks. And Mariah is fun and not cunty when she gets crazy. I'd drink with a bitch wearing just a t-shirt and hot pants and distributing ice cream bars on TRL

It doesn't have a bad sound to it and of course, Christina's vocals are strong (super strong. really)....but to say it has any substance? It's a sterech. I think people are hating just to hate to some extent, but honestly this is starting to feel like "Stripped 2.0" WITHOUT THE SUBSTANCE! I could be wrong, but the first two singles suggest absolutely nothing is going on upstairs....all downstairs! To let's say compare it to a Madonna album, it ain't "Erotica"....it's more like the Otto Von Whatever demos! Again, I'm not interested in samples right now, but those singles.....I'm just not jumping out to buy it just yet (or maybe at all).

BTW, a boxed set? That's just too much!

At least the box would be useful!

I knew this was going to happen as soon as I heard the direction she was taking with this CD. It just sounded like she had no real vision, just throwing crap up to see if it sticks. "Back to the Basics" wasn't the smash she thought it would be so now she's getting all "futuristic" and trying to keep up. She's got the voice but no creative vision or insight whatsoever.

I was slightly embarrassed for her on Oprah. The performance and interview were laughable. I like some of Christina's work and think she has real talent, but she always seems a day late and dollar short or something.

That's right...and to add insult to injury, when comparisons were made between the two back then, GaGa, as freaky-nutta-butter as she is, always took the high road publicly and gushed about the honor of being compared to a force like Aguilera...whether feigned or not it instantly made me take a liking to her. As stunning as Christina's talent is, I can only stomach her arrogance in snippets....teeeeeny tiny little snippets. A little humility every now and then never hurts anyone lol

lol

People need to read a chapter from Rick James' life, there lies the answer.

To be honest, the whole "radical shift" of image doesn't bother me as much as her VOICE to begin with disbelief I've never,,,,ever,,,stomached that girl's singing.

Her extra extra wailing is devoid from any genuine feelings to me and sometimes it drives me nuts. Thats the problem, she adopted this over-the-top behavior in EVERYTHING she does; her singing, her videos, her attitude and her image, obviously she's not a fan of the "less is more" saying.

You just don't listen. I love change. Look at Kelis, her new album is electronica, and as I loved her last album which was hip hop I think she made a great change. Kelis' fleshtone is exactly what I was hoping to hear from Christina. Instead she's taken the cheap route to try and sound commercial.

Since we didn't buy into RKJCNE's "truth", then we're all blind to "the obvious". It's the same narrow, stupid thinking that has caused wars since Cain killed Abel. lol Several people thought GaGa was a dude after those pics of her in concert with the bulge in her pants came out so it obviously wasn't just Christina. Christina tweeted (is that what it's called? I'm soo behind the times lol ) this statement on May 18:

Dear Fans,

I would like to take a moment to clarify something that has been brought to my attention this morning. It is very easy for comments to be taken out of context and create unnecessary drama-especially between us women. So I would like to tell you all directly so my words can not be misconstrued to sell someone else’s story. I have absolutely nothing against Lady Gaga or any other female artist in this business. I think she is great, and I appreciate any woman fearless enough to go against the norm. She has earned her success with hard work and a clear focus and I have nothing but respect for that.
There is room for all of us on everyone’s iPods.

This is not the first time I have been unfairly pitted against another female artist but it will be the last time I comment on the matter.

“Can’t hold us down.”

With love,
C/X

Now, I watched Christina make that hateful Gaga comment because it was filmed at some red carpet event and I watched as Gaga very maturely and humbly responded to it; but, Christina seems over it as does Lady Gaga, so why is everyone else continuing to dwell on it? I guess when people despise a person it's harder for them to let it go. She's far from being the first singer to make bitchy comments about a new comer (uh, Madonna); so, why make it seem like she's the first to do it considering that according to soo many people on here, she's never the first to do anything. Lawd, people make it seem as if the girl said she hated Jesus. lol

Mariah has made some diva bitch comments and so have Whitney and several other female artists over the years, but people just laugh their remarks off and chalk them up to being just diva statements for some reason. It's no secret that these women are divas and with diva status usually comes diva attitude; but they can sing their asses off so that's all that really matters to me. Now, when Kesha insulted Britney that was some ignorant shit. I'm no Britney fan, but how that chick can call out Britney for lip-syncing when her ass 'sings talks' (yes, I saw that parody falloff ) in autotune was beyond me. Britney wasn't using no damn autotune on her first album, so Kesha needs to go sit down with that mess. Man, even if the album does bomb I'll still get to be amused by all the hateful comments so win-win for me. lol popcorn

And why does C.A. have such an aversion to Lady Caca? I'm no Caca fan as anyone knows, but I can at least acknowledge she's drawing a crowd and people like her for some reason. When C.A. says she didn't know who Caca was, or that she hadn't ever listened to her, that's a straight up lie. It's almost like if C.A. admits to even liking Caca or anything about her, she'd immediately be accused of copying her. So it's just easier to say she's a newcomer, and has no substance, just to save face. But what face is there to save? If C.A. really hasn't purposely copied Caca, then isn't that enough for her to know in herself that she's doing something that is original to her? If people believe otherwise, we are basically saying that, and giving credit to her for, she's got some big plan to peek and copy Caca's style because she loves it SO MUCH that she just HAS to do it herself. As if C.A. can't come up with anything on her own ever?

She said in the interview itself "I called them and told them to send me tapes, send me ideas, I have things to say." So really - she's already relying on people to help her with an idea or a new "style" of music. She could sing "I'm not myself tonight" to any track, but she chose one that sounds like a popular sound right now. I'd tend to believe that she's flat out copying the x-rated days of Madonna more than Caca in any respect. We've seen that evidence in the comparison frames of "Express Yourself", "Human Nature", and C.A.'s video for "Not Myself Tonight".

Having said all that, I don't believe C.A. is sweatin' Caca, or trying to copy her style musically or otherwise. This type of heavy synth pop music is the trend right now. These two chicks aren't the only ones doing it, nor was Caca the first to come out with it.

Her biggest delusion isn't that she's not aware of Caca, but rather than she thinks she's fooling everyone into thinking she isn't aware of Caca.

Well, I stand behind my statement. Ya'll are resistant to change.

Xtina (or Christina) has always been about change. There was the Just Be Free Era, then the Debut album era, then the Mi Reflecto and My Kind of Christmas era, then the Stripped era, then the Back 2 Basics era, and now the Bionic era.

She has always said that she doesn't care about popularity. Face it, Britney is much more popular, yet whose songs have more substance? Obviously Christina. Even Not Myself Tonight has more substance than ANYTHING that Britney has done.

I think this is an album that will be aimed at a specific target market. And yes, maybe it won't sell well. However, that doesn't make it a bad album. After hearing the samples of both discs, I'm excited about this album much more than any Christina album release, and I think it might turn out to be my favorite Aguilera album. Does that make MY musical tastes bad? Hell no. Everyone has different tastes.

What I react badly to are people that go, "Oh, it's a bomb!" without even hearing the full album. How do you know what the album will sound like? It doesn't come out for another two weeks! And how do you know that people won't be buying it? If people can buy stuff by the Black Eyed Peas (who suck, btw), they can buy Bionic. It's really immature to call her 'Floptina', when she's had such a legendary career up to this point. Even Prince has had periods where people were calling his new stuff bad, and yet lots of people tend to like that new (or old) stuff now.

Regardless, I've already dropped down $62 for the deluxe boxset, and will also be buying it on Itunes. Total $78. Eat that, haters.

Honey, don't even waste your time arguing with anyone. If you like her, that's
all that should matter. I agree with you that for people to call Christina 'immature' and then refer to her as 'Floptina' really is some 'pot/kettle' shit but it does make me laugh....just like fart jokes. falloff I'm not a fan of Beyonce, Britney, or Lady Gaga, but I don't give them childish monikers because I'm not 9 years old anymore. It's really not that serious. For an artist that seems to annoy soo many people, this thread has reached 4 pages, so most of them will probably either go out and buy the album or just pay to download it in the end anyway. Hell, I'm an undercover BEP fan. lol I've only bought this remix album they did but have rented all their albums from the library on multiple occasions and enjoyed them greatly...sad, I know lol

You're obviously a dedicated fan and there's nothing wrong with that; but, I, personally, would never pay that much money for any artist not even Prince. I laughed at people who payed $75 to subscribe to lotusflow3r.com. No way in hell was I giving Prince no $75 for some website. He was trippin' balls when he threw out that price and the people who paid it had to have been either drunk, high, or obsessed (all just my opinion)...didn't they learn anything from the previous website debacle? I know I did...Prince still owes me $25. I'll buy the album (maybe even the deluxe edition) on the day it comes out and give her the Soundscan, but that's as far as my fandom goes for any artist. I like Chistina, I don't own any of her albums but I love most of the singles. 'Not Myself Tonight' included... 'Woohoo' and the snippets of the album however don't sound impressive at all, moreover I think she just watched a bunch of Madonna interviews and she simply copies her (in a ridiculous way) in the interview I watched, I think her problem is she tries too hard. She has probably the best voice of any female pop singer to come out since 1999 so why she just don't use it in better songs?

Thanks Estelle! smile

I mostly bought the boxset because it came with tons of extras, like 2 lithographs, a customized poster, a vinyl record copy of the album, a deluxe edition of the album on cd, and a cool packaging. The boxset really was $49.99, the extra $12 was for shipping.

As far as people thinking I have blinders on when it comes to Xtina, I have to say that I haven't been impressed with everything she's done. There are some songs, particularly from the first 'self titled' album, that make me cringe. And I don't like the Mi Reflejo album at all, I think it sucks and I never play it.

I just happen to like what I've heard so far. NMT sounds like Michael Jackson more than Lady Gaga, and so what if they happen to be doing the same thing at the same time? Lady Gaga didn't invent electronic music. Michael Jackson did it in the 90's, is Lady Gaga ripping off Michael Jackson? Michael Jackson wasn't the first to do soul music, was he ripping off other artists? And Prince is not entirely original, either; every sound he's done, has been done by other artists before him. The difference between him and those other artists is his musical TALENT; his ability to write song after song after song, and work his ass off to stay where he is.

I'd also like to say that Xtina is not my favorite female solo artist. That either falls to Tori Amos (love her) or Sarah McLachlan. I'm much more excited about Sarah's new album, than Xtina's new album, especially since it's been 7 years since her last one. And if there was a deluxe boxset for Sarah, I would drop money on that, too. Regardless, I will be buying both the cd and the vinyl copy of Sarah's new album, since I listen to music on my turntable, and vinyl just sounds better.

Finally, I know Xtina's attitude at times sucks. She rubs me the wrong way sometimes. And I know I probably would not like her if I met her (one of the reasons why I would go to her concert, but not buy a meet and greet package.) But then again, I wouldn't want to meet Prince, either, because he seems like a real ass. Doesn't stop me from considering him one of the most legendary musicians ever.

Xtina's voice and her collaborations with other songwriters pretty much signifies her as a legend. Because nobody (and I mean NOBODY) can top that voice. I covered "Hurt" for one of my demo albums, and people say I have a good voice...I still sucked, because I couldn't match Xtina. There's no beating that voice.

As far as the album flopping, maybe it will, maybe it won't. If it does, I'm sure that the next album won't. And this will probably be the only Xtina album that sounds like this, because she NEVER stays with the same sound. She's constantly changing and evolving, as one of her quotes from an interview says.

Oh, and I'm not taking this stuff personally anymore. If some people prefer Genie In A Bottle (which sucks) over Not Myself Tonight (a strong pop song), then so be it. I know I love Yes's "Open Your Eyes" album, which is controversial because a lot of Yes fans hate that album. To me, it's one of their best. Oh, and I think "Close To The Edge" is overrated. Obviously, a controversial opinion, but it's mine and it's my own personal tastes that influenced it, so I'm sticking with it. wink
