It definitely sounds like Sabbath with U2/Simple Minds guitars!

It thought 90s goth was way more dance-pop...

I realize that I haven't gotten around to posting my own album list!

Here it is. As I've warned, my list is pretty lame- I didn't explore much of the 90s, as not much of it spoke to me outside of already established favorites. I raided my wife's collection to brush up on stuff, and this is my best effort. The 70s and 80s will be an entirely different story. lol

The 90s bands relied way too much on drum machines, but not all were dance-pop.

I think I had a couple Pavement albums on my list...I'm actually surprised to see them rating so high...

If you're a fan of college rock, I think you'll like them. I would recommend jumping in with Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain.

That's from their 1990 album Elizium which might have the most appeal to non-goths. I think their best though is 1988's The Nephilim.

not really a surprise considering this is prince.org....knew it would make the top 3....what i have always been amazed that the music critics never rated it ?....doesnt make any lists of 'best of' i have ever seen which is a mystery to me as its clearly his best of the decade and better than some of his 80s albums which did get great reviews....

If a lame-o album like Planet Earth can make the top 30 of the 2000s poll then a decent record like The Gold Experience will most definitely be top three if not #1 for the 90s.

ohohoh, that era had to be experienced live. It was the last time (except 21 Nights) that I travelled abroad to see the little man. The concerts, the aftershows, the anger, the funkiness of it all; 1995 was a GOOD year.

Too bad he chopped up the album and reworked some of the material. Too bad "We March" ever saw the light of day.

Indeed, I saw Prince here in NY for a pre-Gold show in 1994. The huge vagina doors onstage and a cameo by Lenny Kravitz--amazing!

We got Kravitz a few years later also, at both the show and the aftershow. He pissed Prince off, in a good way, though. He and Mike Scott had SUCH a good guitar jam going at a certain point at the aftershow, you could SEE Prince was jealous. He was behind his keyboards, but he was ogling Kravitz and Scott uncomfortably; he wanted IN.

I'll try to come correct for the 80's.
