I love this song, it's so catchy and unlike most of the stuff he's been releasing (which I enjoy as well) has a hook and a chorus. I've purchased it on iTunes and can't stop listening to it. There's nothing wrong with catchy pop music, it's just fun. I would really love for this to become a hit but let's face reality, that ain't going to happen. Unfortunately Prince isn't relevant to most people today. I'm not saying this out of disrespect but it's the truth. Even on the Org, or on Twitter, it's the same bunch of hardcore fans posting all the time, with a few casual fans thrown in. I love Prince and he's my favourite artist and I love this song, but it won't be a hit. Look at other artists, a new single is released and you get thousands of retweets, it starts trending, etc. Then look at FALLINLOVE2NITE, a few hundred retweets, mostly posts from news/journalist accounts and the only people talking about it or promoting it are the same hardcore fans that are on Twitter. Even when I look at other forums, for example: ATRL, which is a pop music forum, when another artist releases a new song, the thread has heaps of posts and multiple pages. The thread for FALLINLOVE2NITE only has a few posts and is only a page. No one even bothers to check it out. Same thing with YouTube. A popular artist releases a song/video and boom, they easily get 100,000 views quickly, easily get 1,000,000 views in week and then their views increase in the multiples of a million. Prince's views are only in the thousands.

No hate or disrespect. These are just my opinions. But seriously, FALLINLOVE2NITE is a fucking great song.

He's getting desperate for a hit. lol

It's an ok, catchy little tune. Something that would have been a decent b-side once.
I don't get the love for this song, honestly. But, I guess these days, if Prince releases something...anything that doesn't suck, it's worthy of praise.
It's interesting that he's taken a Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic approach on this one:

throw in a celebrity appearance, go with a major, but overal release a song that

is a catchy, light non-hit. But, he's Prince. He's had success with D&P and Musicology,

so anything can happen.

I think Prince was probably content with this disappearing in the vault, which is why it wasn't released after the superbowl. I think he changed his mind after fans continued to talk it up so much that he thought maybe he was missing out on an opportunity.

Change it one more time..

The song is rubbish.

It may become popular and it may become a hit...

...regardless, its rubbish.

How would technology hinder him? The man can play most instruments and he's capable of mixing a song. When will you people understand that this is HIS creative feel right now whether we like it or not. He doesn't need to write another "Kiss" unless that is what HE wants to do. Who are we to tell a person how to express themselves? If you want another "Kiss" write it your damn self.

He could write (and has since written) a better song better than "Kiss" and half the people at prince.org would not dig it.

-

Also, do you think Prince circa 1985 (when he wrote "Kiss") was "living in the real world"? Likely he is more grounded now than he was smackdab in the middle of Purple Rain mania.

Why do you think the "you can't do better" response is an effective line of argument? In your world, this would mean 90% of the population would not be qualified to talk about anything (arts, politics, sports) because most them don't participate in those things. Quite obviusly, though, a large number of that 90% have intelligence and taste - which means they are qualified. I don't agree with your silly opinion but I support your right to make it.

Im not sure what you're talking about. If I want you to do something that you don't want to do, I can criticize you all I want, but its still your life. You do whatever the hell you want to do and you'd be entirely in your right to tell me to fuck off and if I want you to do something so bad I should do it my own self.

That wasn't your response. You said "Well his signature says he's the best musician on the Org, so we'll all be waiting to hear this masterpiece when he produces it." I take that to mean that the person could be dismissed out of hand because, in all likelihood, he couldn't do the same.

Am i missing something?

My point, obviously. The points not that he couldn't do the same, because thats a given, but that Prince is going to do whatever the hell he wants regardless of you or him saying what he should and shouldn't do. So you'd probably be better off doing yourself what you think he should be doing, and save yourself the heartache. Because living someone else's life for then vicariously through the internet just makes people come across like arrogant delusioned asses.

I get what you feel he was insinuating with his comment, but I think you're looking too much into it. He didn't mean that the guy isn't as good as Prince, therefore his opinion is not valid.. I said for him to write his own "Kiss" if he wanted another one and I think what lezama was sarcastically saying is, "This should be good" That's how I took it anyway.

At least promo CD's are still made of recent Prince singles. I was at a record fair last saturday and one guy was selling promo CD-singles of Breakfast Can Wait and FIXYOURLIFEUP. Identical releases are on discogs.com too so I think they are authentic.

Sweet. I haven't been to a wrecka stow in so long, I honestly wasn't aware they still made singles on cd. The last one I bought was Unpretty-TLC neutral I guess I'm spoilt with iTunes. It may be time for a change. I'd hate to see music stores fold like movie rental stores have. confused
