No site outside of this one is hyping it up. I doubt it will be a hit. Wish him well with the song although it's not my cup of tea

Define "hyping it up"...

i meant hyping. by that i mean calling it a hit. i feel like it won't generate a lot buzz but i hope i'm wrong.

Yup. I mean, "Kiss" was almost completely produced by David Z, but Prince still took the production credit.

This is quite the precedent being set here!

yep & for everyone who's always said they'd like to see Prince be produced by someone else, here's the result neutral

Not sure you've thought it through. You think Joshua Welton is a producer?

what's with all this silly "hit" talk anyway? We should just cheer he release a great track period, regardless of you so-called "hit" definitions. The way people here categorize a hit as shoddy ditty marginalizes all the great work on true hit records.

According to Prince (and Ida, for that matter) he is.

That carries a lot more weight than whatever arbitrary definition of the word you have.

But it's OK because nobody here takes you seriously anyway after that ridiculous thread you made the other day lol lol lol

With the right promotion. La Reid will have this getting as much airplay as Pharrell's "Happy"! It'll b platinum by the end of the summer. Plus nominated 4 a grammy 4 Best Pop Duo per4mance....

eye will ALWAYS think of prince like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. eye mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that prince wasn't of this earth, eye would not have been that surprised. R.I.P. prince

Well, I wouldn't expect them to say otherwise.

http://www.spin.com/articles/prince-zooey-deschanel-fallinlove2nite-stream-major-label/

That Spin article refers to it as "not hard to imagine becoming a stealthy hit." And if you type "FallInLove2Nite" into google news, you'll find the articles/reviews of the single are almost universally positive. Of course, critics/journalists don't really make hits, so it remains to be seen how radio will respond.

As far as hit prognosis, I'm far from an expert, so take this with a grain of salt, but these are what I see as the three main factors at this point:

(1) Sound: A slick retro-funk style reminiscent of recent hits such as "Blurred Lines" and "Get Lucky." If this song was by a hot young artist it would almost certainly be a smash imo.

(2) Promotion/Backing: Epic is behind this, which means they think it has a good shot to be a hit. (After all this is business for them, so there's no other reason for them to partner with Prince.) So not only does "FallInLove2Nite" get the benefit of major-label promotion from Epic, but we know that L.A. Reid (and probably other Epic execs, as well) feel the hit potential is strong enough that it's worth their investment.

(3) Prince himself: This is the big question mark, in my opinion. Can Prince, in his mid-50s, two decades removed from his last bonafide pop hit, get over the hurdle of not fitting the pop-star image that dominates the charts? I honestly don't know, and I think this is a pretty big hurdle. Zooey might help, and... well, we'll all see what happens within the next few weeks.

I hope (1) and (2) combine to outweigh (3), but who knows? I do think this is Prince's best chance at a hit in a very long time, and I'm not generally overly optimistic about that sort of thing. (For example, I didn't expect "Black Sweat" or "Guitar" to become pop hits, and I wouldn't expect any of the 3EG songs released so far to become pop hits either). I like -- don't love, but definitely like -- FallInLove2Nite. I think it's a good, catchy song, and I hope it becomes a smash hit and introduces many new people to Prince's wonderful catalog.

That's some bull. shit.
You don't know what he's "hungry" for. When have you ever known the man to do anything he doesn't want to? Just because this song is so far removed from his old stuff doesn't mean he doesn't personally love it and isn't passionate about it. You should know by now that he isn't going to put his name on anythiing he doesn't love! If you mean "14 years left" as in life, well you can just move on along with that business.. nobody wants to hear that. Why come to a fan site if you're going to say shit like that? Not trying to start shit, and I respect your right to say what you feel but damn..

Did you search the song title? I tried to find it under Prince and 3rdEyeGirl but it wasn't on either of those pages so I searched just the title and found it.

How anyone can compare this to Happy is insane, Happy is a brilliant pop song by an artist in his prime. Fallinluv2nite is average europop at best, I really hope it does well but it doesn't represent at all where Prince is on 2014, a cheap hope of a radio hit is what it is

I haven't done my homework so I could be completely off here, but do we know how much of an input Zooey had on this track? It's possible Prince let her have more say in how it was produced, and it could be more a representation of her.

agree 100% You can hear the work, craft and passion on true hits on radio. This one is just a cheap lazy track no artist on top of Billboard would allow their name anywhere near on.

Its a hit that I predicted last summer, when I attended a private screening of "Despicable me 2" that Pharrell was @ also. But the song is not an original its a SAMPLE. "FALLINLOVE2TONITEi" is an original by Prince. He doesn't have to sample ANYBODY...

Well, I'd rather hear a good song that uses a smart sample than driivel that was composed by Prince himself. Just my two cents...

What is the sample that Pharrell used for 'Happy' btw?

I disagree, I like Pharrell and all but Happy is highly repetitive and hardly original. But like any song with a major label behind radio pushes, it gets ingrained in your head the more you hear it. Songs can be crappy and catchy at the same time. E.g. the first time I heard a Britney Spears song (I think it was "Ooops I did it again") I was like wtf is this crap.. but they used to play it every day at my college in a public area so I couldn't help but hear it everyday. Next thing I know about two weeks later I find myself in the showing singing to myself "da da da da ... Oops I did it again.. da da da da da" and then i was like OMG wtf am i doing, ashamed at myself for singing such trash. But I had to admit to myself after hearing it 20 times it was extremely catchy..

Change it one more time..
