Kobalt (I've noticed they've ceased promoting Prince and Liv Warfield on their social media accounts even when they were on Arsenio) made the mistake of thinking that Prince was comfortable with being an indie DIY artist who didn't care if he got played on the radio and would promote his music through other means. Based on recent interviews where he's expressed frustration over not being played on the radio and not having hits, as well as comments from his mouthpiece Funkenberry on various Spreecasts about Kobalt not giving him enough "incentive" to release his music ($$$) it seems Prince never was happy with the Kobalt deal and just signed it out of desperation when he couldn't get anymore multi-million dollar upfront payments from any magazines or newspapers.

Prince clearly wants to be on a major label and on the radio so this single may just be a "test" to see if Epic can deliver the "hit" he wants. Even if you don't like the song if you want to see "Plectrum Electrum" released you had better hope against all odds this song gets airplay and is a hit so that he'll go ahead and let Epic release Plectrum (given that was the album Prince recently previewed for Epic's L.A. Reid). If not, PE is likely going into the vault.

that could not have been the issue with Kobalt because that's not what KLS is about. They provide promotion and distribution services nothing more. If he was/is disappointed with anything it would have been on the promotion side IMO because he's basically had to handle everything on his own thusfar

Give me ALL of the releases from 3rdEyeGirl so far over this. Truly awful.

^ really, I don't understand you -- I am the opposite.

FALLINLOVE2NITE is a fantastic pop song his best in a very long time. woot! woot!

I dislike FixUrLifeUp and Rock N Roll Love Affair and Pretzelboringasssong.

3rd eye girl haven't released a great song, so far... sad

Different folks different strokes biggrin

That's always been one of the joys of being a Prince fan - the music he releases is so diverse you get a really big mix of people in the fanbase cool

If you are like Prince now or, LA Reid, and you can't see just how bad and shoddily produced this track is, and will be perplexed at WHY this record will under no circumstances ever be hit, it's ok. Not all of us have the same tastes. That's why they sell fanny packs and hot pockets. There is something for everyone. And as time goes by, time takes it's toll and sometimes lose touch.

We know why it won't be a hit. He won't do anything to try to make it one, his age, old news, etc. But as a track, I see little difference in its hit potential than your random bullshit by the likes of Pitbull, Britney Pears and other bullshit of that ilk. Except that it's actually pretty decent by comparison.

.

If he wanted this to be a hit, it should have been available back when New Girl aired, not a month later. And not just one version, but a dozen remixes. And a video. And consistent promo day after day. And no promo for 3rd Eye Girl or anything that could divert attention away from this track.

.

And then it still might not have been a hit, because it's a shite song and the people who usually buy this crap don't give a shit about Prince.

Yes, I already said all that. But the song itself has the ame potential as any other dance pop track that is all the rage these days.

eek Rare that I agree with BVH but on this occasion I do!

Then again though if Prince had just released an album as good as SOTT BVH would be dissing it lol

Hideous artwork, but then that's been the case for everything Prince has released in the past 15+ years. It's a shite track anyway, which sounds like one of those rubbish dance tracks he was doing twenty years ago. This could just as easily have been on Mayte's horrible Child Of The Sun album, but back then you'd have to be utterly deluded not to acknowledge that album was cack. These days you have people praising this rubbish as "his best in years".

you really are the most bitter person on here..How much energy do you use to write such negatve things constantly?

You would think that, which is why I was so surprised that Funkenberry was going on in one of the Spreecasts about Kobalt "resting on their laurels" and not offering Prince bonus money to bring the album in on a certain date like Warners did. I thought Prince wanted to get away from that, but there was his mouthpiece complaining about Prince not getting a bonus from Kobalt to "motivate" him to release his music. That's not the way KLS/indies are supposed to work so it's odd Prince/Funkenberry would think that. That was also the reason given for Prince not wanting to release concert DVDs. Funkenberry said no one had offered Prince enough money for him to feel it worthwhile to do so because he felt they would take away from his live box office.

Song is catchy as hell, lots of energy...and this is coming from someone who generally doesn't like this genre of music all that much. Will it be a hit? Don't really care tbh. If he does all the necessary promotion and plays the game to the hilt, it could be. I don't know how the charts work anymore with iTunes and downloads and youtube views and all that stuff there counting now. But I can't imagine this coming on in a club and people not getting excited.

he could've easily made this available for download, he's not going to promote this song anyway as he's playing with 3rdeye so what difference does it make?

I feel ya.

I'm terrible with lyrics...unless I can see them they almost all sound near-icelandic. I really need to focus and shut some sounds out to get what many words r in a song. I think my senses blend atypically in that part of the brain that affects synestiasiacs heavily. I'm not that cool...I think they're just blended in a fucked up way that makes it hard for me to make some words intelligible in tune form.

I'm probably just reading waaaaay to much into being ignorant tho....lol.

apart from the obvious lines that are repeated 40 times,

this is what i hear on the verses:

special night, my favorite crew

the moon threatenin'

2 dance her out of her shoes

in his ear, he was about 2 hear,

an offer that he could not refuse

.

she said:

underneath the taffeta,

there ain't no better hiding place

if i see the moon i just laugh at her,

wanna wake up 2 Ur pretty face

.

we can sleep all day 2morrow

and dream about this fantasy

we don't have 2 beg, steal, apologize or borrow

we're about 2 go hard - y'all ready 4 me?

Yup. I mean, "Kiss" was almost completely produced by David Z, but Prince still took the production credit.

This is quite the precedent being set here!
