Has he just screwed Kobalt?

Kobalt (I've noticed they've ceased promoting Prince and Liv Warfield on their social media accounts even when they were on Arsenio) made the mistake of thinking that Prince was comfortable with being an indie DIY artist who didn't care if he got played on the radio and would promote his music through other means. Based on recent interviews where he's expressed frustration over not being played on the radio and not having hits, as well as comments from his mouthpiece Funkenberry on various Spreecasts about Kobalt not giving him enough "incentive" to release his music ($$$) it seems Prince never was happy with the Kobalt deal and just signed it out of desperation when he couldn't get anymore multi-million dollar upfront payments from any magazines or newspapers.

Prince clearly wants to be on a major label and on the radio so this single may just be a "test" to see if Epic can deliver the "hit" he wants. Even if you don't like the song if you want to see "Plectrum Electrum" released you had better hope against all odds this song gets airplay and is a hit so that he'll go ahead and let Epic release Plectrum (given that was the album Prince recently previewed for Epic's L.A. Reid). If not, PE is likely going into the vault.

Yep. This sounds like sense. Crap song but I guess he still needs the glory. It 'ain't gonna be no hit thought. I think Plectrum is this close to hitting the vault. And if it does come out, it 'ain't gonna be the version that journalist heard.

listened to it once. probably won't listen to it again. It's not bad but it doesn't seem to go anywhere. it stays at the same level through the whole song, like Chelsea Rodgers. No way is this song a hit

I think this was a good choice to re-introduce Prince back to the "pop" audience he used to have. Is the song his best? No, but it's a decent little tune. It's structured like a lot of the top-40 songs are today.

I look for a r&b-esque track to be out within 2 to 4 weeks before the album drops.

It is cheesier than "Take Me With U" or "Cream", at the very least. C'mon.

Cream is as cheesy or cheesier than FIL2N, definitely. The others, too.

Much of what we fans accept as normal (or have just gotten used to) is pretty cheesy to the average human.

Definitely realized this while watching SOTT the other night with a few friends who hadn't seen it. But it didn't matter, they still loved it, because of course he's still amazing Prince.

He's good at being cheesy. This is obvious, right? But whether he's in that mode or not, it doesn't seem to necessarily have any bearing on the quality of his music.

Half of my favorite Prince songs are, I'm sure, super-cheesy.

That said, I really can't stand Cream.

Cream is not as cheesy or cheesier than FallInLove2Nite.

I just dont understand fans on here

.

This is probably one of the catchiest tracks he has released in a long time.

Those who love the heavy guitar 3rd Eye Girl stuff are not going to like it

Prince is so diverse in his sound you are not going to like everything.

I prefer his synth and horns sound so this falls into that catergory I guess and I also like neo soul and some RnB so its a good one for me.

.

For it to to be a hit it needs to be marketed properly and it will get that from Epic Records.I doubt he has signed any long term deal with them so who cares !! People slating Epic !! I just dont see the point.

The track also has fans of New Girl interested in it which will help its popularity

.

Fans need to get off their high horse. It would be great to see Prince back in the charts again getting new young fans instead of most of his oldies like us.

Ok before anyone flames me this is just my personal opinion/tatse...

Have listened to this several times now hoping it would grow...it hasn't! This is awful. It doesn't sound like a Prince track! It sounds like some of the crap that "winners" on Pop Idol or X Factor put out. It is simply BLAND.

Give me ALL of the releases from 3rdEyeGirl so far over this. Truly awful.

Worryingly (to me) this is being promoted on the 3rdEyeGirl YouTube channel rather than the Prince channel - odd! I was kinda hoping we might be in for a double release this year - A Prince album AND a Prince & 3rdEyeGirl album but got a feeling this might be a last minute inclusion on Plectrum Electrum...Sad!

The concept of the PE album is back to 70s style analogue studio band recording. This So does not fit with that style. Then again it might not be on there and I am just speculating.

I can often find something of merit in most things Prince has released (I love the RNR Affair remix). But THIS is right in that pile with Graffiti Bridge as the worst song he has ever recorded/released.

Just my opinion.

'I loved him then, I love him now and will love him eternally. He's with our son now.' Mayte 21st April 2016 = the saddest quote I have ever read! RIP Prince and thanks for everything.

Exactly my point! He's doing his Bolan thing with that song, which, let's cut the crap, has far more credibility than channelling your inner David Guetta, or whatever his intention with this song was.

This song and "Breakfast Can Wait" are the best Prince songs I've heard recently. If the latter had been released on a major label too,it would have become a hit.

Can't you just acknowledge that it's all about personal preference? I much prefer pretzelbodylogic to fallinlove2nite, but that's just me. I'm not saying that fallinlove2nite is bad, it's just a genre I'm not too keen on.

I love the vocals and some of the synth on this as well as the horns, I really hope there are some remixes of this - and what I'd be hoping for would be real drums (the programming on this is heinous and sounds like it is a preset, and it is set to Vengabus), also the synth stabs or whatever u call them seem childish to me - that said there is a real diamond in there. So, Mr P - if ur listening, a more organic mix please!

In case this is confirmed as "official news"..

why then, is this major story about Prince & EPIC Records still not on the Org front page?

Maybe it isn't "confirmed official" then, after all... question

My whole point was that people thought she was just an actress that randomly decided to try to sing for the first time in her life and it was with Prince because he was on her show. Didn't mean to come across as an asshole about it, guess the whole .org mentality has rubbed off on me, been coming here to much lately to keep up on the news.

The drums seem to be synthesized on an analog synthesizer (or analog style synthesizer, i.e. VA). Meaning that they're made the same way as all other analog synthesizer patches by turning knobs on a synth. I can't really think of another Prince track that uses similar sounds, so it really must be the "Josh" guy that's done the beats and the synths on this one.

(overenthusiastic orgers - don't yet put that on wiki or anything like that)

W.r.t. cover art: has a bit of Graffiti Bridge er cover art vibe over it.

I kinda like it!

I see gold rings, some gold flecks? Droplets?

Shiny chain. Silver?

Circle shapes. Ground and air.

Strong references to sound money. True value.

(but those are just my impressions)

Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

Hideous artwork, but then that's been the case for everything Prince has released in the past 15+ years. It's a shite track anyway, which sounds like one of those rubbish dance tracks he was doing twenty years ago. This could just as easily have been on Mayte's horrible Child Of The Sun album, but back then you'd have to be utterly deluded not to acknowledge that album was cack. These days you have people praising this rubbish as "his best in years".

No need for the trash-talking. I'm a professional web designer, I'm very capable of grabbing an image from Instagram on the web. However, I was on my phone at the time, so I simply screengrabbed from the Instagram app. There's no viewable source code available from the mobile app to find the direct link.

If you are like Prince now or, LA Reid, and you can't see just how bad and shoddily produced this track is, and will be perplexed at WHY this record will under no circumstances ever be hit, it's ok. Not all of us have the same tastes. That's why they sell fanny packs and hot pockets. There is something for everyone. And as time goes by, time takes it's toll and sometimes lose touch.

We know why it won't be a hit. He won't do anything to try to make it one, his age, old news, etc. But as a track, I see little difference in its hit potential than your random bullshit by the likes of Pitbull, Britney Pears and other bullshit of that ilk. Except that it's actually pretty decent by comparison.

.

If he wanted this to be a hit, it should have been available back when New Girl aired, not a month later. And not just one version, but a dozen remixes. And a video. And consistent promo day after day. And no promo for 3rd Eye Girl or anything that could divert attention away from this track.

.

And then it still might not have been a hit, because it's a shite song and the people who usually buy this crap don't give a shit about Prince.
