Yeah, but it is interesting how he manages to always throw his own guitars to a stagehand. You won't see Prince smashing his Hohner. Really not cool...unless it was planned. And if it was planned, he could have at least autographed the guitar he just destroyed. I'm just saying.

[Edited 3/2/13 3:52am]

I remember a magazine article years ago where one of his guitar techs mentioned the fact that the Cloud guitars were fixed and re-fixed every night when he used to throw them offstage on the Lovesexy tour. There are photos of the Cloud later in life and you can see where the horn on the body has broken off as there's a crack all the way across it. Prince has always thrown his guitars around whether there is someone there to catch them or not. I'd be a little pissed off if someone broke my guitar as I don't earn much. This Douglas chap... he's a member of The Roots. He can afford a new one, surely! :0)

Oh, and I just read on Wikipedia (must be true) that Kirk Douglas owns over 50 guitars!

Is it just me or Prince seems kinda pissed of during Screwdriver? Just from the beginning, it's like he's not satisfied with how he feels the sound or his voice or something. There's a slight feedback from mic at the beginning also, if my (bad) ears aren't playing tricks on me.

As for the poor guitar: when you give something to someone like Prince, I think you have to be prepared. Anything can happen, for the good or the bad...

The girls sound good on Bambi, and not so good on screwdriver, which is NO good since that's the new song. Maybe to play them 3 alone they should have a stronger chemistry. I don't know, but even if I like the songs, I can't get into the band. I can't imagine those 3 girls playing on their own without P, if he's trying to launch them as a group of protegees, they'll have a LOT of homeworks to do I think.

That performance Reminded me why I've stuck with this man for 30 years. He's put us fans through some stuff but man he is so Damn fun to watch. I got so excited when he played the first few chords of Bambi, that I jumped up and down and knocked over a bunch of stuff sitting on my mantle. And I ain't a big girl.

Well, I didn't like it. The whole performance was pretty sloppy. The guitars mostly sounded horrible.. so thick and muddy and messy. I hate Donna's playing. Her solos aren't that good, and she can't play the lead lick in Bambi right.. the final bend always sounds flat. Also, I think P's afro looks awful. It just looks so thin and wispy, obviously because he's in his 50s and he's losing his hair, but it just doesn't suit him. And that eyemask! What the hell is with that eyemask?! Argh, it's awful!

This is Prince.. he's one of, if not the greatest performer alive today. This just sounded like some pants college garage rock band you'd see in some dive. Totally sub-par for Prince.

I just hope that this 3rd Eye Girl band isn't the one he's touring Europe with, because that would suck. hard.

Also, as for the smashing of the guitar.. it is never cool to smash someone elses gear without permission, I don't care who it is. Jimi Hendrix could come back from the dead and borrow my guitar, but if it came back smashed, I'd expect him to cover repairs. Who knows what Kirk needs that guitar for? Or what sentimental value it has? It's someone elses property and deserves to be respected.

Having said all that, why did Prince change guitars for Bambi? He could have easily played both Screwdriver and Bambi on his Vox. My guess is he wanted to have some "rock n' roll" exit and smash a guitar, but didn't wanna smash his new Vox.. so he borrowed one. For the sole reason of smashing it.. let's just hope Kirk knew that's what it was for.

I don't know how Kirk Douglas kept it together and restrained himself from whooping Prince's ass after Prince tossed Kirk's guitar that he borrowed to play Bambi. Legendary musician or some punk upstart, I thought that it was shitty to destroy another guitarists' gear, not knowing what value the instrument it holds to the person.

planned?

It was alright...I mean, I've been waiting to hear him rock out like that for awhile now but it was cool. I expected to like Screwdriver but for some reson it didnt reach me live...Bambi was fun. It's always a treat to see Prince do his thang but the energy of this band was a little...off. I'm probably used to NPG and need to warm up to 3rd Eye...we shall see! dancing jig

LOL Mariah needed help stepping over it. Questlove had his fingers in his ears. Jimmy had to shout out his "Thanks" & "Goodnight". I was on the edge of my seat!

Overall it was a good performance even though the band wasn't particularly tight. It was fun and energetic with great guitar and I enjoyed it a lot.

Prince looked very good, especially when the took off the glasses and I'm still loving the afro too. biggrin

I'm pretty sure the guitar smashing thing was planned folks, so just relax already.

Bravo Prince.

it's a bit of an abuse of the word "spoiler" which is generally reserved for plot points in fictional works (movies, tv shows, books, comics, etc.) or when referring to winners at awards shows.

this is like the nightly news putting a spoiler warning at the top of every story, in case someone wants to watch the news at some other time and still be able to call it the news.

odd.

STRONG PERFORMANCE

band looked and sounded good.

Bambi much better than screwdriver...looked like P gave a 'look' to Donna during screwdriver as if she was not playing right or something. lol

His 'looks' crack me up.

and cant believe people complaining about the broke guitar, but of course this is the ORG where fans find any freaking thing to bitch about.

I didn't get a chance to enjoy the show because I watched it at work and some

of my coworkers gathered around the television to just dog out Prince.

wacky The whole experience was like watching a train wreck. I didn't like the songs--he's trying toooo hard to fit in, and it just didn't feel right. I don't see the connection..not feeling 3rd eye. I'm tired of eye's, it is such a distraction. I'm mad that the funky experience blog is gone and I'm tired of silly games. I've been on my feet all night and I'm tired..goodnight!!!!!
