Having watched the vid a few times now, I think (as stated on an earlier page) that Prince forgot he was on a wire rather than a wireless guitar and having launched it probably remembered - hence why he strutted off a bit quick!!

Anyways, has Captain Kirk not heard of glue?! rolleyes

We'll never know the truth about what Prince was/is thinking about this episode. He never speaks in public about personal stuff. He doesn't even try to save his own ass. It does add to his mystique, since every opinion against or with him is coming from other sources than himself.

I TOTALLY agree with this post. I've seen P live numerous times, especially early in his career where he used to toss his guitar to the side of the stage where one of his roadies would catch it. There has been times where a roadie would drop P's guitar and guess what? That roadie was fired strictly because of that. Now in THIS scenario on Jimmy Fallon, I didn't know that was someone else's guitar that P used. For him to throw someone else's guitar up in the air to simply let it crash to the stage just for the sake of attemping to look cute or hip and then do his infamous "I don't give a fuck" type stroll off of the stage afterwards to me is deeply inconsiderate and cruel. If it was his own axe like I assumed that it was when I watched the performance last Friday night, then cool, that's typical Prince. BUT for it to be another musician's property,...that's a different matter entirely and Prince certainly KNOWS better than to do some punk shit like that.

I don't know how Kirk Douglas kept it together and restrained himself from whooping Prince's ass after Prince tossed Kirk's guitar that he borrowed to play Bambi. Legendary musician or some punk upstart, I thought that it was shitty to destroy another guitarists' gear, not knowing what value the instrument it holds to the person.

My opinion on the performances

- Liked the afro hair.
- Hated the guitar choices. He should bring back his bright and cutting Strats instead of these crap guitars.

- Overal OK singing from Prince.
- Please don't let Donna Grantis play a solo ever again. She sucked. Uninspired descending of the pentatonic scale.

- Like someone else said: Donna can't play the Bambi riff properly, her last bend sounds flat.
- The drummer was OK but not good enough. What the hell was that manic bass-drum kicking during the Bambi solo? At one point she MISSED THE BEAT. I'm sorry for my hate people but that's just awful. And No I do not only want the Steely Dan sound. I like his rock too. But if you want to rock you need a good drummer! I miss John Blackwell and Michael B. But if he wants to keep it girly, why not Sheila? Oh I know why, because Sheila says what she thinks and Prince can't live with that.
- Ida is the only one who deserved to be on a stage with Prince.

- He left the background singers at home, which was good.
- Aside from all the negative comments, I still loved bambi because it's a great song.

I like this post except for I can't quite get with P's "fro". NOT because it's an afro because I think Jesse wearing an afro for the past few years or when Lenny Kravitz rocked an afro, it looked good on them. On P at it's current state, it makes him look kinda like a little old lady. It needs to be a little bigger and more bushed out or something but as it is, it's not quite happening. It clashes with the edge he had in his clothing. The lil ole lady look with his "do" contrast with his threads. The all girl band is totally cool but for it to work all the way and be totally LEGIT, it has to be that these girls are kick ass musicians, like Sheila was/is. That's what gave Sheila credibilty is because she could fuck you up on the drums. That's what gave Lisa Coleman credibilty because she was a good keyboardist so therefore that in turn reflected back towards Prince and made him look cool. Now having girls up there that clearly can't properly play P's music live because their not good enough as musicians also refelects back towards Prince. There are women musicians out there that can hang with Prince and play his material live, hell, he has proven that in the past. But THIS group isn't them. Oh, loved that he played Bambi.

I just had an interesting conversation with my house mate. I was watching a re run of the fallon show and he came in wondering what I was listening to as he really liked the sound of it and I thought, what an opportunity to ask a non prince loving person which song he preferred, to my surprise he said the first one by miles, which as we know was "screwdriver".

That got me thinking about old school fans and I wonder if it's people's need for nostalgia that clouds their judgement on prince's recent output???

All I could think of when I watched this was that Wendy and Lisa must feel missed.

Testify ... 2020 indeed

band was sloppy , Like the idea of a scaled down group though ... you would think that prince would have played the lead line in bambi ... anyway , lets hope the ladies can pull it together ... you know prince would cut the tour short if they never jelled ....

People are actually defending what Prince did to a vintage guitar that belonged to someone? The show producers could've just gone and bought a vintage guitar (or an expensive replica) for a few grand if they knew he was going to do that.

Kirk said he was using that for the tribute, maybe Prince was sending a message about the tribute. He's said before he's not a fan of people covering his songs unless they run it by him.

He didn't say it was his most prized guitar, it's not THAT rare, and it'll be repaired, but it might not be back to how it was before Prince got a hold of it. Does it raise it's value? Sure, but that's not the point. I think he just wanted to get it signed just so he'd auction it for charity or for a museum to display years from now.

Also, if he didn't give Prince the guitar, he could've just cancelled the appearance because he didn't get what he wanted.

After a bunch of views now on headphones, this is a top 5 TV performance of all time from Prince IMHO.
I am totally digging his rock god side tight now so I am a tad biased. Love Screwdriver's rifts and Bambi is just dear to my heart. I remember people on this board years ago, dreaming, salivating at the thought that he would bust this out on TV one day and show everyone that he has the chops. Well there it is my friendns and he did not dissapoint.

It was a couple of good performances but not epic like some people are making them out to be and not terrible like others are.

Bambi in my opinion was much better than Screwdriver but then again it's just a much better song to start with.

His playing on Bambi was really good but not his best. (Check out some of his work from Coachella and many other shows for a comparison). Letting the girl who plays have the solo on Screwdriver was bad. She's nowhere near good enough to have a solo on any Prince song or performance.

The fro. It works on some people but sorry, not on him anymore. In his late teens and 20's yes, now no. To me he looks like a cross between a young MJ and an old lady.

The throwing the guitar thing. Who knows? Could have been a setup, could have been a mistake or it could have been him just being a dick, which he has tendency to do.

So, forgive me if someone has posted this on the Org somewhere... WHERE can I find the Jimmy Fallon performance online???????????????

Its not even on NBC's website!! Why am i surprised that it is nowhere to be found.

Anyone? I really want to see this new "band" of protoge's. Vanity 6 with instruments I assume? Good lord how I love and respect Prince but his protoges have ALWAYS sucked. Like since the 80's. lol

Anyway thanks in advance for the info!!

OH PS- "I'm your driver, you're my screw"???????? really ya'll???? sigh.
