He's been so mature as a performer for the past few years, since around Musicology, and now this junk? Sure, sometimes it's nice to see a change, but this is disappointing.

Prince, you're 55 this year. Act like it.

While waiting for the Jimmy Fallon show, I sat through Jay Leno. Leno had on The Mavericks. I had ZERO expectation for that band, but they tore it up! They sounds badass. So finally when Jimmy comes on and Prince Plays the pedestrian "I'm your screwwww" It was just so anticlimactic. The Mavericks totally ruined it for me. Never listen to a better band come on before your main event with better music unless you want your musical dinner ruined by having the desert before the main course...of stale music al dente.

i thought it was a nice performance but it started off very shaky. prince pulls it together

after donna's first solo, which seems to fire him up a bit more. he gets more into it when

he takes over after her solo.

the mood and the overall look and feel of the whole thing was great. i enjoyed it a whole

lot more than his more slick and controlled performances.

but it wasn't his best imo. it was good and the grit made it fun to watch. but performances

like "dreamer" on leno are miles above this.

I saw Leno too and thought the same thing about this group.....pleasantly surprised because they did a nice performance.

I rather watch Prince sing "I'm yo driver yo my sc sc sc sc screeeeeeeeeeeeew" a dozen times than watch the mavericks. Their performance on Leno was OK and by them I mean the band. Their lead singer is dreadful. He sings like he has lock jaw. But I do agree with you that Prince's performance was a huge let down. Bambi restored it a little but still, overall it was pretty weak.

My thoughts...

First song: zipped

Bambi: headbang guitar music and Prince needs to buy that man a new guitar. hammer

I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

That was supreme ruling... killer. He and the band ripped it UP.

The look. The guitar. Screwdriver. Bambi.

In the words of Cornell West... He is a GIANT amongst us.

Hannah just got a lot better in my ears.

I've "DVRed" this, and repeated it about three times.

He KILLED it. 'Nuff Said.

A very good performance--I loved it! Even though I wanted to hear two new songs, "Screwdriver" and "Bambi" were electrifying and fun! Of course, loving the 'fro, and hopefully, over time, as I'm watching 3rd Eye Blind, I'll get Cleavon Little's line from Blazing Saddles from my head, "Where the white women at!" Other than laughing every time I see 3rd Eye Blind, I really enjoyed this performance. It may not be his best performance ever, but he damn sho' delivered a good performance.

As for the broken guitar--if it was planned, cool, if it was not planned, then I feel sorry for dude. You just can't damage other people's things, but I'm hoping it was all in good, "planned," fun.

Two solid and satisfying performances. Thick rock sounds, but not over done visually. Good stuff. Although, Prince is really starting to come across as an old man now. He seems comfortable in his "elder statesman of rock" role. And I'm comfortable with that too. Funky. I guess I'm just glad they didn't perform "Lame Out Loud"!

I'm over this 3rd eye girl band. I'm just gonna come out and say it...they suck. That's right I said it third eye girl sucks. bringiton Anyways Screwdriver was lousy. Bambi was better. Lastly, I'm just going to say that all I ask is that Prince ditch these girls and release an album. PLEASE. I dont give a flying fuck about ida donna and hannah all I want is a Prince album!! Just Prince.

Well he is very talented, but I think you'll agree that not even he can pull off playing all instruments live. I dont understand your reasoning behind shitting on this band already, we only have 2 rehearsal clips, these 2 songs, and then whoever attended the Dakota night3 got a longer rehearsal too. Ida has been touring with him since 2010 and is a great bassplayer, the others I can't make judgement just yet. Remember there are the other players too Gouche, RBJ, Cass O'neal, the horns. I think Prince will be playing different shows with different bands this year, it wont be long before we'll find out.

If your talking about LOL, I agree with you I prefer other songs. The new music is there we're getting some through the site, some has been played live and some previewed by DJ Rashida. We would all like an album - considering it's been 3 years, I'm not going to sweat if it's days, weeks or months till new music is released. In the end we're all got other shit to do in life. highfive

Personally, I had quite a bit of trepidation about how the Fallon appearance was going to go down, in the end the performance was really good.

....and how about that, an almost normal marketing campaign, perform songs that can be bought from his site, and announce tour starting in April in the market where he's getting this exposure.

It is a positive direction, hopefully good times keep rollin' music

Hey once again I shoulda been more specific (and btw I agree and respect your stance on things) What I meant to say was that I hate the direction he's going in with 3rd eye girl and that's why I feel they suck or at least the situation does. In other words I wish they never came to fruition. Prince is 54 almost 55. We've lived through all the protege bullshit. It's now to the point where it's like "please, I dont want to see anyone else in the spot light but you." Touring band? fine. But I dont want to see miss shaved head rippin a solo while you drift in the background! You're fucking Prince, who the fuck is Donna??? tonk I just want to see HIM at this stage in his career. He should not be sharing the spotlight with anyone. I think people are lying to themselves when they actually say they love this band because we're Prince fans! He's 55! WTF you want to waste time listening to a trio of teeny boppers for, when Prince could be making music!?? ughhh I'm on a serious rant and just letting it out and probably making ZERO sense I dont care. 3rd eye girl can kick rocks. I just want Prince!

I can feel that. It's very stripped down, raw, no horns, blazing fast, almost urgent in presentation with no fanfare or extras. Just very plug in and play loudly!

I'm a bit taken aback.... this is the first time I've ever seen him looking so old.

Totally disagree!

I think that he looked the youngest & `freshest` i`ve seen in a long time. The more natural look really suits him.

The afro is cool & funky, much better than the Little Richard hairpieces.

His skin looked flawless, much better than being caked in thick make up.

His clothes were hip, much better than the suits, chest hair & medallions!!

Even tho I prefer funky Prince over rock Prince I thought the performanes were great. He smashed it as always. Never a dull moment in Prince world! I do feel that 3rdeyegirl as a touring unit would need more practice/experience. Will be interesting to see if they beome his main backing band.

I`d personally love 2 see Michael B, Sonny T, Morris Hayes & Rosie Gaines return. With Sheila & Eric Leeds thrown into the mix. That would be my dream line up!

Prince's music used to be so appealing because he had his own, unique, sound, there was nothing like it...From Dirty Mind to Lovesexy and even The Gold Experience/Come era...It was incredibly exciting, funky, quirky, fun, touching & personal...

These performances are rock. very well played rock. but it's just that, rock and nothing else, like a billion other single minded bands out there. it's not very interesting musically IMHO..The lyrics of ScrewDriver are terrible, I felt I was watching Lenny Kravitz...

On a positive note, the bass player seems quite solid & has a great groove going on, I look forward to hear her play more interesting music. Prince still has great guitar chops, though I much prefer his jazzy/funky guitar playing, that style was always more appealing than his rock solos.

eye have 2 wonder if prince fans have every heard anyone other than prince play guitar ever

its like the guy plays the most mediocre guitar solo ever and everyone just gushes like he is hendrix or something .. ps .. listen to hendrix

screwdriver is not only a horrible song .. right up there with 'guitar' for hype surrounding a horrible song .. but the performance sucked too

bambi was just as bad .. especially when the double kick drum kicked in and hannah slowed the beat and momentum to a fucking crawl .. i was unimpressed with the musicianship of everyone including prince .. that screw driver song literally has 2 chords in it and one lil guitar riff that prince could play on the toilet .. and the flush would still be more interesting

bambi would have killed with mariah on vocals tho .. that would have been an interesting twist on a sorely mediocre and grating performance

prince coat is a step in the right direction .. the rest of his diana ross outfit is horrible tho

in conclusion F -

The problem is not all rock music, it's that Prince plays somewhat one-dimensional rock music
