Prince came to WB to impress them by biting off a doves head.

Sadly it didn't work and freaked out the new record executives.

Well lets HOPE its this.

Prince has realized he will never get his way, he isnt going to ever own these masters outright, the time now is to play "the game", get with the label EVERYONE is doing deluxe Editions, open the vaults to WB in exchange for some ownership of them yourself, this could be very lucrative to both parties easily, im not saying reissuing all his albums will turn the industry around but i can guarantee that everyone into Prince "like that" that stil digs him, will be buying them without question.

Prince has that shit laying around collecting dust WHY NOT put warner to work for you, get them to "clean up" the tapes and issue them for you instead of letting an operator getting $8 an hour handle the shipping department and packaging for you, lets face it, you suck as a businessman.

Rhino records right now has been handling ALOT of reissues and even new cds by older artists, go this route!! The Cure "Disentagration" was done through Rhino, and the first two a-ha cds will get deluxe editions in July with tons of mixes bsides and demos, and this deal (including overseas) netted them 7 figures. PRINCE swallow your pride, we all know the deal about labels at this point and ownership, just milk it and get what you can, be a player.

Life is too short anyway. nod

IMO - i think it's a little too late to start thinking about releasing any back catalog on CD. Yeah, Prince fans re-buy them AGAIN, if they are re-mastered properly, but i have to say, I'm more than happy with my vinyl transfers (that sound WAY better than the CD's that are available now), I have all the 12" versions, single versions, videos, and much more. Any Prince fan has the original vinyl with the posters and picture sleeves. So tell me Prince, why should I buy that back catalog all over again? If indeed this was the topic of conversation. The fans are small group, not enough to press 50,000 or so. They would never sell that much.

New fans are not buying CD's, if they are re-mastered for download, then maybe they will purchase. I stop buying CD"s a long time ago and for me to buy the back catalog just to say I have them will take some convincing, when I've been content for a few years now and have listened to the tracks more than I should. I'm a little OD'd on Prince right now.

You never know, Prince might end up doing a one-off distribution deal with WB for his new project, the same way he has done with Universal and Sony in recent years.

I mean, the people running WB these days probably weren't even at the label when Prince had his problems with them damn near 20 years ago. There's no reason for him to hold a grudge against them.

Of course not. nod

I remember a few years ago Prince saying in an
interview something about an audit of the sales of
Purple Rain. Maybe they were meeting about that.

Or maybe a new project. Maybe if Prince could get
a deal like U2 has and Prince would own his master
recordings for a new project he would work with
Warners again.

Could WB agree to give Prince back his master
recordings earlier so they could do a proper
remastering re-release of the back catalog?

If WB is hurting they may want to work with Prince
again so they may be able to come to some understanding.

I dont see how remasters would work because didn't he and WB have issues regarding some of the more risque songs originally lined up for "Ultimate Prince"?

Would his new religious fundamentalism not have an effect on the re-issues?

Unless it may have to do with prioritizing and balancing his religious principles and his checkbook.

Perhaps Prince is going to sell his WB music back catalogue for a hefty price. I know what you and everybody else is thinking, doesn't WB own those already? Yes they do. But if Prince agrees to remaster the Cds in exchange for tons of $-which in effect becomes a sale of his back catalogue to WB. We get remasters and therefore Prince wont own them and there is no spiritual conflict.

If the meating did concern remasters, I hope the 'Ultimate' collection wasn't a example of the effort they intend to put in it. It was so compressed, it squeezed the life out of the tracks and made it unlistenable ..to my ears.

Not that P's own mastering efforts have been that great of late.....

Either way, I have zero faith that if remasters happen they'll be anything other than a loud wall of shite. sad

Prince is not going to give up ownership of his songs, There like his kids to him. WB does not own his back catalog they own his Masters to his back catalog. Theres a difference. Prince still owns the music publishing of those songs. Which i'm sure he will never give up. There may be a deal. But I'm sure its not going to include Prince giving up ownership. That is what he has been fighting for with WB. To have complete control over his music...

Drfunkenberry.com has learned exclusively that Prince was at Warner Bros. Records yesterday. Prince, who is town for the BET AWARDS this Sunday, stopped by his former record label

to discuss business.

Prince was signed to Warner Bros. in 1977 until the late 90’s although things soured between the prolific genius and the former label giant around 1993, where Prince abandoned his birth name and wrote the word “slave” on his face until his emancipation from the label.

We are told that Prince’s appearance at the Warner’s office had employee’s in awe. At this time, we do not know what was discussed, weather it was old material, or if perhaps a new deal for an upcoming project. When we do know, you will know.

I meant the master recordings. Prince has also said that the ownership of the masters was the future for the artist and then mention 1 artist who sold it for like 100 million. Giving indication that at some point he may consider doing the same. (Again master recordings not publishing rights)

Reel

I wonder if Prince is "sweating" his career as much as his fans are? Theres all sorts of scenarios about what he needs to make it "back to the top" and "jumpstart his career". I'm saying....I wonder if that's even an issue for him. Is he really trying to be "all of that", or is he just trying to enjoy his craft and collect what he feels is due him? People (including myself) putting 2+2 together regarding whether or not his tax issues will equal a tour or a new CD. And then theres always the "He's got another album coming out". I just wonder if it's really all that serious.

I think Prince will likely ride this thing until the wheels fall off, but I just don't know that he's seeking to reach any new major milestone other than just enjoying himself and getting paid to do so.

Sometimes I think folks on the board go overboard. He probably went to WB with a baseball bat conceled in his trench coat and turned over some tables and demanded the masters to the Purple Rain album. Who the hell knows or even really cares?

Although I'm your biggest fan...I'm also your biggest critic. Can you deal with that?

my guess is they give him a bunch of cash RIGHT NOW to do whatever they want to them for a certain period (say 5-10 years), and he gets them ALL back at the end of that period, instead of in dribs and drabs every year as each album hits that 35 year mark.

Anyone who thinks WB are just gonna give up those albums once they turn 35 years old, is naive.

Either Prince strikes a deal or they'll see him in court. And while he likes to threaten to sue people, he HATES being in court.

Hopefully,he met with Warners to discuss remasters. It's a damn shame that his impressive catalog hasn't been upgraded/remastered/reissued.I'm sure that Warners has been wanting to remaster those albums for years, but Prince is the one who keeps holding back. It's time to stop playing games and remaster that stuff!

Let's start with every album from 'For You' to 'Lovesexy' remastered and in stores by Christmas!!

Come on,Prince!

Don't worry it will, the record industry is falling apart, MJ (R.I.P) made a hell of alot of money for Sony last year don't think WB are not looking at the backlog of Prince stuff thinking - Hey we could make some real money out of this stuff? $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Logic, unless they push now Prince's historic fan base will be spending all their money on pensions and babies very soon ... Now's the time to cash in the cow! lol

WB may like to play hard ball but Money Talks and they know they have to act now to get Mass Public buying into Prince Remasters ....

Expect another Prince Greatest Hits or Box Set of 7 on it's way...!
