Only kid and people in their 20s and early 30s buy records/CDs, etc and none of them care about the old man, Prince. They don't need to woo him back...he won't sell any records despite how good of an album he releases. If David Bowie or Billy Joel came out with a great album, do you think it would sell much? How about Springsteen? No they are old men like Prince and nobody cares but us.

Agreed. For many reasons. Most of all, because it is a false statement. Look up some facts.

You are absolutely right, there is something else to the WB meeting but if it's something other than remasters or there aren't any remasters that come out of this meeting, will you be sad or mad about it? Will it make you or anyone else pissed if it's just the distribution of the new CD and nothing more? It's not the end of the world if those CD are never remastered. It would be great if they were and I'd buy it and enjoy it but I know for me, I will survive if there isn't a louder version of SOTT. I'll keep it moving like I am now.

[Edited 6/25/10 11:35am]

I'm like U. U right it won't be the end of the world if the remasters don't happen. But it would be very sad that we fans have to suffer & watch other artist get remastered & Prince doesn't. Because of problems Prince has had with WB. But I do understand what Prince is doing. I think he is waiting until he has control over his masters so he can reap the full benefits of that. Because when his old catalog gets remastered. Warners is going to make a fortune, & I don't blame him for wanting to be a part of that one bit... That's why i think its a gr8 idea he is dealing with WB again & that there is something big going on. Because Prince is not stupid like people make him out to be here....

U r so cool Purplecam. I hope U not doin anything naughty on that cam...lol

You made some great points there and I can't argue with seeing other artists remastering their work and Prince not doing the same. I hope that changes very soon but time will tell with that one.

As for if I'm doing anything naughty on the cam, you have to find out for yourself wink ....lol

I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

I am hoping this is just for a dist deal for the new album. Of course I want remasters with vault tracks...but KNOW he wouldn't release those old albums without editing them...and that would be a complete disaster.

One of these 2 extremes will happen if they do work out a deal...

A- Either WB will milk it for everything they can, Prince will put together an incredible album and he will be more "relevant" than he has been since 1992...

OR

B- WB will "try" to milk it, but Prince will give them a crappy album full of Cause & Effect, Purple and Gold and Hot Summer material.

Or more likely, something in between.

Drfunkenberry.com has learned exclusively that Prince was at Warner Bros. Records yesterday. Prince, who is town for the BET AWARDS this Sunday, stopped by his former record label

to discuss business.

Prince was signed to Warner Bros. in 1977 until the late 90’s although things soured between the prolific genius and the former label giant around 1993, where Prince abandoned his birth name and wrote the word “slave” on his face until his emancipation from the label.

We are told that Prince’s appearance at the Warner’s office had employee’s in awe. At this time, we do not know what was discussed, weather it was old material, or if perhaps a new deal for an upcoming project. When we do know, you will know.

Prince and Warner Bros? What’s up doc for real…..-Dr.FB

Age has got nothing to do with it, if an artist makes a good album people will buy it regardless of there age christina aguleras album came out here in the uk and only sold 24,000 copies shes young shes popular but she didnt promote the album properly so it hasnt sold well.

Yes...I do think their albums will sell well. Maybe not 2 or 3 million copies (like they used to), but most of them sell around a half-million on every release. That may not sound like a lot, but with the deals those guys have with Sony, they own their masters and make a larger amount of money.

Cool, maybe. Don't get too excited, though. It could just be a legal continuation of everything that's gone before. In a dream world it would be the beginning of remastered re-issues containing b-sides and unreleased tracks. Because I don't think Prince would ever rely on them to release new material again.

I know I'm real late on this, too, but DrF is most definitely being fed information. The stuff "he" posts is so fast and so accurate that there's just no other way. S'cool, though. Prince always did want to be in control of that kind of stuff.

You're right about Dr F. Only problem with Dr F is that nobody knows (or cares) about that site except people from the org and HQ/MQ. It's definitely a Prince news outlet. Sure there are other news items, but come on people......If it was as legit - and widely consulted - as other outlets, more people would know about what Prince is up to. As the BET Awards showed, most people don't think he's recorded a decent song since the Sign o' the Times or Diamonds and Pearls albums (Musicology tour notwithstanding).

People know nothing about Chocolate Invasion, Slaughterhouse......there was some REALLY good material on those projects. And 3121 had the makings of a major hit album (not just first week sales stuff), but he let that whole Tamar distraction keep him from promoting that album like it should've been promoted.

I can relate to people's hopes that prince will one day consider negotiating with WB about reissues/ remasters. But on what logic are some of you basing that this will ever happen?

Prince has tirelessly distanced himself from his racier back catalogue and recently 'apologised' for his past 'mistakes (ok, this is open to interpretation and no statement on his past music per se). Do any f you really think there is a one percent chance of this happening before hell freezes over.....? lol

The logic it's based on is that anybody with an ounce of business sense who actually cared about their fans would be all over the opportunity. He could create another musical frenzy if he did double and tripple disc re-releases of every album up to the Symbol. Seriously. Like, multiple albums charting at the same time. Platinum discs left and right. Because as much as we think we have EVERYTHING, we don't. Plus, we don't have most of it in a modern sounding high quality. And most importantly, there are a LOT of casual Prince fans who don't collect every note the guy has ever recorded who would willingly re-purchase their favorite albums with b-sides and unreleased tracks included. The logic behind it is that it makes NO KINDA SENSE for him to have put it off this long and to continue denying a majority of his "fam" exactly what they want.

Now, that's logic as most of us would see it. But Prince is clearly not operating under that same umbrella. Do I really think it will happen? Sometimes, yes, I do. But most of time, nah, I don't. I'm fully aware that dude wants to distance himself from that material AND that he's quite possible the most stubborn, single minded person to ever walk the Earth. However, taking this into account, one would expect the LAST thing he would EVER DO is release new material through Warner Bros. It goes against so much of what he's said and done since leaving that label. But in his world (mind), if he can work the same kind of deals he's had with the last few albums I imagine he would see it as some kind of vindication, or a victory. I don't know - the whole thing is just rather odd. So personally, I'm holding out hope that the meeting related to re-releases. It's just as likely that it had to do with the new album or tying up old legal issues, though.

I somewhat agree. But it's funny though, since Prince seems to be able to "doublethink" (you know, how Bria could sing about sexy things but it was okay, because it was about sex within a marriage), that Prince hasn't looked as his own discography as a kind of story arc. If he did that, he'd have a story about a raunchy, wild and sinfull young man who earned success in the material world and yet was unhappy, but found redemption in Jehova and then found true happines. Classic story telling tells us that you must have your character (in this case Prince) go through some rough spots before you get liberated and gain wisdom. And you have to do sin, before you can be "re-born".

In other words: Don't f*cking tell me about God or Jehova .. tell me about the journey to him (which means, don't censor the sinner's sins, the bad words, the sexual songs, let them stay as evidence of how "out of control" the old Prince was. If Jehova will even forgive "Sister" then suuurely .. he can forgive you too?).

Prince's journey starts at For You, no? He finds freedom from Warners in the 90s, but only feels really free after meeting Jehova. NOW he's suddenly again in the media, earning real money ect. ect.

He could easily put out Dirty Mind The Remaster today, and say it was a evidence of his pre-Jehova days, and that you cannot have redemption with out sin and such, and that sexual, sinful and low nature of the record is the picture of a soul without Jehova ect. ect. The hero has overcome his bad past, the chains and finally seen the light, which has rewarded him so that he now both happy and succesful. Everybody applaud, theme music, Oscar'sawait.

It's all about spin .. and I can't imagine that Prince haven't been tempted by the free money tied up in everything released on Warners and perhaps only stopped himself from signing any deals, because he can't make peace between the past and the present. Thought as as a linar story, there is no conflict between "Dirty Mind" and "The Rainbow Children", and Prince can say "Yes" to remasters.

Oh, just a note : I don't actually believe any of the things I just wrote, merely saying that if Prince did, everybody would win. And since Prince seems to live in another world sometimes, maybe he could believe in it. Me ... I'm not religious.
