You know I am sure Prince did not get up on Monday and think 'lets piss some fans off today.' I am sure he is as sad not to be coming to Ireland as much as we are that we are not going to get to see him. Anyway I know that the next time he sets up a show I will be on the phone booking tickets don't matter what he has done.

No?! Mayb not "lets piss some fans off today" but could b "Oh...I don´t wanna do this Dublin-gig. I´m not in the mood. Cancel the show"
He plays Sir Nose and should have some treatment from starchilds BopGun cool

And 2 others...yes the r worse things in this world. But thats not what this forum is about. Its whole intention is ABOUT Prince and his music and artistry. Or did i get lost somwhere?! confused

I'm so upset, but at least I will get the 210 quid a ticket that I foolishly paid on the morning the tickets went out.

Anyway, i'm so upset i'm gonna but my JT album on - only kidding wink

The only thing that can fix this is 12" housequake on vinyl - damn that purple little pixie

Hell it's 1987 all over again (when the SOTT concert at Wembley was cancelled due to the threat of rain)

Feel sorry for all of you who bought tickets. Feel even more sorry for those who booked flights, hotels etc. sad
'I loved him then, I love him now and will love him eternally. He's with our son now.' Mayte 21st April 2016 = the saddest quote I have ever read! RIP Prince and thanks for everything.

NEVER BUY TIKCETS UNLESS ITS OFFICIAL CONFIRMED BY THE PRINCE MANAGEMENT.

But Prince has no management, he manages himself, he dispises managers as he has often pointed out.

There is no clear coimmunication from Paisley Park so its no surprise people make up their own conclusions.

The only loser is Prince.

The losers are Prince's fans.

I've just stumbled on this site in the fall out of the cancellation. I know a lot of people will have lost money over this, and was jst wondering what the legal position would be? I'm sure there'll be a cancellation clause in the contract covering "reasons beyond the control" of prince or the promotor, but do they not have to give some clues about what those reasons are? Otherwise could they not just put any lame excuse in that category?

Basically, what I'm getting at is is there any chance of recovering money for flights etc (I was really pushing it to get a weekend away in the 1st place). I'm only losing out on about £100, but £100 x 55,000 (I know not everyone will be cancelling flights etc but you get my point) is a hell of a lot of money that people will be losing.

Any thoughts?

There is some crap in those posts. To read them you would forget which artist is being dealt with here. Prince does what Prince wants to do. He agreed to the tour and then got a better offer to play a private birthday gig for loads more money. So he promptly cancelled Dublin. Lets face it he has form, look at the Lovesexy Japan tour in 89, he wanted to pull out of that at short notice to do the Batman soundtrack. Luckily at the time he had some managers who pointed out what a stupid idea that would be. Not nowadays , Prince does what he wants when he wants.

There's not as much 'crap' in those posts as there is in yours. Aside from my obvious disagreement with your opinion on how the concert was cancelled- I have to wonder are you actually saying you dislike Prince because he does what he wants to do in his life ?(this question in no way acknowledges my agreement that this was a spoilt tantrum on Prince's part) I am however, intrigued as to when it became a crime for doing (legal) things you want to do...

Yea, don't get me wrong, the London shows were definitely a nice little earner, but i still think he would have made a fair profit of the Dublin show...i appreciate the costs would be high, but a lot of the crew at the London shows were clearly British, and i've got a couple of photos of the plans for the symbol stage from the O2, and it's a real clever design, but simply constructed...literally just scaffolding with the symbol surface made up of lots of simple planes of wood...i watched them take it apart to make way for the Elton John Show during the O2 run (that's when i photographed the plans) it really didn't take them long...who knows, they may have even left it in England!

But I guess my point is that i doubt the money would be the reason for cancelling (at least not on Prince's part)

He knows how to make money, but it also seems that he's not bothered if he loses money either

It's speculation on my part, but i'd like to think Prince is above doing something (or not doing something) just because of the money

(also, this might be of interest to some people: the purple doves dvd has an interview where Prince is talking about cancelling gigs and how he hates to do it, the interview is about 5 years old now, but he gives an example of where he had to cancel a show and it was literally because he'd twisted his ankle in rehearsal ( i'll have to watch the interview again, but i think he may even have broken the ankle)

I see your points...But,
21 gigs in a MAJOR city (Tons of great Promo)
plus the money from the aftershows...21 days of selling merchandise..
and not having to travel around or hire people to move the whole setup night after night works out Waaaaay better than One Gig in Ireland...
It probably cost a million dollars just to ship all the crew/stage/gear ect to europe and back !

cloudguitar said:

roughly though 50000 tickets sold, say an average of 100 euros=so 500000 euros

The exchange rate is about $1.75 to 1 Euro That's $8750000. Say Prince makes about 10% He's still going to make about a million dollars...

that's not including merchandise sales

rough figures i know, but i doubt Prince would be saying 'why should i do that when i can get $4m for a gig in the states?'

why do 21 gigs in London at a really cheap ticket price?

just saw this on ireland.com - c quote from MCD. Mmmmmmhhh

As you’d expect, the web is alive with opinions and theories on the Prince cancellation yesterday. One poster on the Prince fan site Housequake has pointed out that Prince himself is contractually forbidden from commenting, so cannot defend himself against implications that he personally was behind the cancellation.

I’m deliberately not linking to these posts (and will remove all such links from any comments which follow), as some of the related material is difficult to substantiate, and I’d imagine there are a lot of legal teams standing by in the wings.

By the way, in the interests of balance, I asked a spokesperson for MCD for a comment on some of the other allegations raised by Housequake and was told they were “a pile of shite”.

Hmmmm the plot thickens. I guess HQ need to be seen to defend Prince to try and get him back onside. I think MCD are being very poorly portrayed and some of the comments about them very unfair.

I predict a lawsuit. My father in law has ongoing business dealings with croke park mgt and I asked hime to suss it out today. Croke Parl Mgt speak very highly of MCD. MCD have brought all the big gigs to Croke Park and are cery well organised and well run. They do not believe one million euro would be handed over for the stadium booking unless they had a contract with Prince. They also estimate advertising at one million, ticketmaster costs at 200K, planning and admon costs of 150K so some one has a big bill and this will get resolved for sure - in the courts!

Prince is sitting back all quiet knowing some of his more blinkered fans will spout all sorts of crap at MCD.

I think the HQ comments/explanation are being given more substance as they have been predicting the Croke gig would be cancelled for the last few weeks, as have a few people on the org, the Croke gig was always abit precariuous for allot of Prince fans as no more gigs for Europe were announced, I hoped he played, but I wasn't shocked when it was cancelled and that had nothing to do with the statements from HQ.

One thing I don't get from the explanation is that Prince could not comment on cancelling the Croke gig, this means he must have had a contract with MCD, otherwise he could have just come out when the gig was announced/tickets went on sale, stating that he is not contracted to play and he will not play, then the fans would not have bought the tickets..... MCD would not have spent all this money on arranging/advertising/marketing the gig without a decent contract, I've had my run-ins with TicketMaster, but they are a reputable ticket agent and there's no way they would have got invloved without contracts/commitments, these are all big players with lots of experience of putting on majot events, they don't just announce gigs and pressure artists to agree to play, this is business for them, making money, they don't care if the artists plays well or not, they just want to make the money, nothing wrong with that, but they wouldn't setup a gig like this without the artists agreement.

I think people are gussing here what's happened, lots of people are now posting how any fans doubting Prince should now feel bad and he has nothing to apologise for, the facts are there are no facts and until Prince releases facts, he's gonna carry most of the blame here (rightly or wrongly), particularly with the press and general public who are not fully aware the way Prince operates unlike we are, today at work people were just saying I see Prince has had a strop and cancelled again !

I suggest to wait for the explaination to this - I am sure that the cause wasn't the 55000 sold tickets. Every major artist has cancelled concerts, they are human too, but there may be something serious behind the decision. It is true that Prince is not communicating in the internet as he used to in the early '00s.

Yes - surely MCD either DID or DID NOT have a contract with Prince. If a contract existed then prince should have played. If no contract existed then he could tell his fans that there was no show without worrying about a lawsuit.
