Not cancelled due to poor ticket sales. Most reports say almost sold out.

I think Prince owes his fans a few free concerts.

I think I am going to cry. Just canceled our hotel but I will still loose money on our flights. My kids are going to be so gutted as they were so looking forword to meeting all you orgers. Someone give me a hug.

hug There you go...

And here's another! hug

And for the kiddies! hug hug x how many kiddies were going.

For me there's not enough info as to why it was cancelled. Speculation is just that, speculation, understandable because the cancellation is such a heartbreaker, but futile none the less.

To all of you die-hard Hardcore fans who think Prince can do no wrong, if this isn't a wake-up call for you about what an ass he can be, then nothing will wake you up.

I agree. The past few hours have been terrible as the news finally sinks in. I received 30 text messages with people offering commiserations but it appears people don't trust him and perceive him as a freak. I think the 1995 show when unreleased material was mostly played still resonates with many.

I was sooooo pissed off I called MCD to pick a fight, they advised they received fax this morning from P's mgt advising of cancellation. I advised them they had a crap legal framework in place if he could opt out just like that. Clearly they were hiding something and there is more to the story. As I said in earlier posting, there were people on the org who knew and emailed me advising the cancellation would be announced on Monday or Tuesday of this week while we were all soaking up Wolfie's CRAP.

Wheteher Prince had / had not planned to partake in the show is irrelevant, surely a quick update through Dr. Funkenberry ( or what ever the f*** he's name is ) would have sufficed, you cannot dis-associate yourself through silence in the same way as the O2 VIP tix fiasco last year. It is simple appaling and not surprising.

Great quote from someone on org today that said they love the music and dislike the individual, that is how I feel. I realise he is an insincere low life scum bag and understand why there were no 50th celebrations last week, you need friends and family and he has NEITHER. Seriosly can you name one person in past 4 years who said he was a nice person ( not a great musician ), the closest was jay leno in 2004 saying 'nice to c u buddy' Laugh Out Loud.

Next time I choose to attend a show I will but ticket for BIG $$$ on the day from a tout, happy to pay the premium to him and get best seat on the day. In relation to purchasing records in the future, my 5 buddies and I are going to chip in 2 euro each, buy one CD and then copy it 6 times. from now on these are the rules I work toward. lack of respect can work both ways.
Go F*** yourself Prince and enjoy your next in house gig with P Diddy and P. Cruz MUTHA F*****

I can tell you, I know many people who know what a nice and generous person Prince is. So he cancelled. It wasn't a marriage, it was a bloody concert. You people scare me, I can't believe how easily you jump on the hatred bandwagon, it really doesn't take much, maybe you'd like to stone him to make him really suffer. If you knew through your various sources, why are you so angry? You're probably one of the least surprised people today.

I've been sobbing so hard. Is it because we really do love Prince. It feels like he's just walked over my heart.
I know, it's just a concert.
It's like it stood for something. Prince stands for something.
Ethics for one.
I cannot understand how he could allow something like this to happen.
Even if its not his fault, even if it's something that couldn't be avoided

LET US KNOW WHAT HAPPENED. WE SUPPORT YOU THROUGH THICK AND THIN. WE ARE NOT JUST WORDS ON A COMPUTER!

We all rooted him on.
I hated the PFU thing and all it stood for. I thought about what he must be going through and how honerable and brave he was being.
I defended him for the last year and now I'm actually completely gutted.
(now I know why that word is used. Feels like a knife has scooped out my insides). Feel like my heart is broken.

Like the time he funded the replacement tickets for the Blenheim cancelletion out of his own pocket. A cancellation which was not his decision nor something he was liable for, but would have left everyone without a refund had he not have reached into his own pocket.

I seem to remember at the time a whole bunch of people slagging him off then as well, before any facts were available. Only fools rush in.

Prince has always cancelled gigs at short notice. Its part of his "image". I think cancelling gigs makes him feel important. Such a shame. I would of hoped that as he gets older he would have started to mature and consider others. But alas ...

People have taken responsibility for their decisions, they've paid/lost lots of money/time to see Prince,

I've been a fan for over 25 years, seen lots of concerts, I love the music/concerts, I think the mans an idiot, I can distinguish between the 2.

I've met him, one of my friends has spent a considerable amount of time alone with him and he freaked her out, so my view is based on my own experiences of being a fan for 25 years, I am still a fan after this Croke park fiasco, a fan of the music, not the idiot making the music.

Prince needs to take responsibility and announce what event caused the concert to be cancelled, if its a fair understandable reason, people will be disappointed but understand, saying nothing just makes him look even worse.

when we lost out in '87 with the 2 wembley stadium shows being cancelled because of the, 'ahem', "bad weather", the line was that he was making up 4 it by putting together the SOTT movie... mayb he will use the same line with the coachella dvd and actually get it released ? back then it was a case of 'every cloud having a silver lining', literally ! mayb this time will b the same ?

i guess people want 2 get their rants out now incase the facts spoil it 4 them !
but really, dissapointment, then anger, then hate ? CHILL people.

Considering the amount of touring and the number of shows Prince has played throughout his career, Prince rarely cancels or postpones shows. And when he does, it is due to illness, injury or a tragedy like the death of John Blackwell's daughter during the Musicology tour.
I do agree, though, that Prince should release a statement, because so many people paid lots of money for travel and hotel expenses. If he did cancel because of illness or injury, he could release a statement without getting to personal, but just letting his fans know what is up.
Anyway, my heart goes out to all the disappointed, and pissed fans. I know it's little consolation, but I hear Ireland is beautiful. A friend of mine went a couple of years ago, and judging by the never-ending slide show, a great time was had by all. lol

Its such a shame sad but honestly, not a great suprise confused
yes, I know its only a concert in the grand scheme of things BUT...people have spent so much money, time and effort in booking 2 go. Its just a tad(!) bad management to leave it six days before the gig to cancel; with the extra cream and cherry topping of no reasonable excuse why.... "Reasons beyond our control" is not an excuse, its a travesty. However, I'm still off 2 Dublin, I'm gonna enjoy myself, thank God I'm happy, healthy and enjoying life. I wish u all, love and peace, whether u head to Dublin or not. Keep smiling and take care.

I would like to echo everyones disappointment, but gonna reserve my rant for when we actually get the reason (if). It was only announced last week that NERD were opening for PRINCE, (this was on their web site). At the Celen Dion concert the other day in Croke Park, it was announced that Gwen Stafeni amoung other special guests would be appearing aswell. Construction of the stage at Croke Park had already begun.

"One insider claimed that it was Prince's decision alone not to travel for the concert despite eight months of planning that had gone into the night, including a Garda traffic management plan."

I am sorry for those of you who have missed out on this one, especially with the non-refundable flights and so forth.

On the topic of responsibility...

... I'm definately very, very disappointed, and I have lost an awful lot of money, but I certainly don't hold Prince personaly responsible for this in any way. In fact, I am responsible for the fact that I lost all of that money, because I chose to be a crazy f***ing fan and spend it all in the first place, booking flights and hotels and shelling out a load of money on (non-refundable) tickets, knowing that I couldn't really afford it, knowing that there was always a chance it could get cancelled. I pinned a lot of hopes on seeing this concert, having had a shitty year, and convinced myself that seeing Prince would somehow make it all better, which is pretty crazy really. So if I'm feeling deflated because I'd pinned all of my hopes on some guy I've never met playing a concert, which was all gonna magically make it better, and then it didn't happen, then it really is my fault for having such unrealistic expectations in the first place.

I for one will keep on enjoying Prince's music, and do hope to see him perform live again at some point in the future, but the lesson of Croke Park is not to get so 'crazy fan' about it all anymore. nuts

Rather unlikely seeing Neil Diamond is performing there this Saturday - you really think they'd build Prince's stage, tear it down, put up Neil's stage, thear it down then put up Prince's stage again?
Don't believe everything you are reading/hearing - it sounds very much like someone at MCD is working spin to push the blame onto Prince.

Well said yourself! I smell a promoter's hand in this cancellation. It's easy in the vacuum to assume that this is Prince being dodgy - I got replacement tickets for my useless Blenheim ones too - so I'm not quite so eager to start slagging him off.

I have also seen his obvious love of his fans when I went to see him at Rotterdam during ONA. We got kept waiting outside for HOURS! When we finally got inside, he listened to our grievances, apologised, told his people off and then made up a song about it!

If he is to blame for all this, then feel free to go mad, but before you start burning your CDs wait for the full facts.

Tickets have been on sale for 4 months yet they only really start the whole advertising of it seriously in the last 2 weeks!

Ticket sales was not the problem here, 62000 tickets was released for sale he sold 55000 tickets i hardly think 7000 tickets not being sold led to the cancellation.

Guys you know we have no chance of getting any sort of reason - Prince doesn't even communicate with us on 3121 anymore - I think he doesn't think he has any responsibility to us but you know what? Without us buying his records, going to his concerts, buying his merchandise - where would he be? In marketing terms - we are his consumer and he sure as hell is NOT meeting our needs or wants.

I'll tell you what I want. I want a date for the new Point depot next year. I want guaranteed really shit-hot seats, I want guaranteed entry into the aftershow and I want him to turn up and WOW me like he does every time I see him live. There ya go universe - I have put it out there - lets hope it happens.

I was interviewed on radio ulster earlier on today and they asked me why I like Prince so much (this was after I was in a full tilt rant) and suddenly I went all goey and started this swooney tribute to how multitalented he is and how he is amazing to see live and although I've been to tons and tons of concerts - to see Prince live is 'something else'.

I'm so grateful they asked me that as it forced me to remember why we are all so hurt- we hurt so deeply because we love so much.

I was listening to Billy Jack Bitch this afternoon and decided HE IS Billy Jack Bitch - its still a super funky song.

There were 82,000 tickets for sale - 27,000 not sold - thats helluva whack of an empty section in croke park. I heard that they needed to sell 70,000 to make a profit - everything over that was win win - to sell 15,000 under target meant someone was gonna loose money - and we all know it wasn't going to be Prince.
