Shitty week for me.....1. House sale fell through
2. Another year older (12 June)
3. No concert on 16th

My kids sports day as well on my birthday, so to cap it all I'll probably fall over in the Mum's Race & break my leg!

Has anyone wondered if Prince might be having trouble with his
hip and that is why he is canceling? You know he doesn't like his
personal life brought up.
Or is he sick????

Honestly... When he was in Chicago in 04 We got to the
United Center and stood around waiting and waiting and
then Finally.. like 1/2 hour after we were let in they
told us he was canceling cause he had a sore throat.....
My husband had taken the day off work...
Some friends of ours flew in from out of state.. spent most
their day in the air port and then waiting in line at the
United Center.
THEN.... the Very next day a few hours before the conert he
canceled AGAIN cause the drummers kid died.....
Yes.. very sad.. but it still sucked.
AGAIN my hubby had taken off work and we were driving through
crappy Chicago Traffic on our way there..
AND many had come from out of town for those shows too.....

at least this is a 6 day warning..
and you can still go to Dublin and have a nice holiday and
have fun and enjoy the trip.....

it could be worse.....

I'd just like to know why it took so long to be cancelled. Why did tickets go on sale and posters and promotion around Ireland while all the other European dates were never confirmed?

Surely well over a moth ago when the other European dates that had been penciled in were cancelled, that would have been the time to officially cancel Dublin. That might have saved a good few people who were late booking flights and hotels a trip and more wasted cash.

Takes me back to Birmingham, UK '95. After the main show they announce, from the stage, "aftershow @ Studebakers"!!! Everyone runs out of the building, jumps in their cars etc and goes to this club. We're all lining up outside and the manager of the club comes out and tells us Prince called it off cos of a sore throat. Not entirely surprising he had caught a cold, he was really pushing himslf that month as anyone who travelled around Europe seeing the gigs will remember.
Anyhoo, so of course no one believes this guy. After all we had heard the announcement a mere hour or so before. Some police turned up incase fans turned nasty i suppose and the manager invited a couple fans inside the building to prove to them that no one was there setting the stage up or anything.
Everyone just kinda wandered off a tad disgruntled.

Dont hold your Breath !

Personally I dont think Prince ever agreed to do the show...
thats happened to me before...(Im a musician)
I have heard about promoters selling tickets..having a venue..selling t-shirts ect..and not even once getting a confirmation from the artist...
I recall having a show in Portugal once where the promoter sold out the venue..sold my band' merchandise..had all kinds of shirts, fake programs...hats..ect..
and then ran off out of the country with everyone's money..
we (the band) didnt find out about the show till two weeks later..
(when the hotel he booked for the band/crew got in touch with us asking for money for the rooms we reserved but never payed for) !!! eek
This never sounded REAL to me...
Neither Ireland nor Denmark..Im not surprised...
In the future If I were you guys Id only buy tickets from prince directly..Like back in the old NPG music club days...
At least I would wait until there is some kinda OFFICIAL word.
Sorry.. sad

I just don't understand why People are getting worked up YES its disappointing and a lot of money for the fans to lose out, but like the press release says it was canceled due to events beyond PRINCE'S Control and that of the Promoters it could be worse you could be a fan of Amy Whinehouse where she cancels at the last minute or even worse MJ's who was famous for canceling during the 90's. you go to a concert knowing that it could be canceled for any reason HEll even your flights could of been canceled on the day of departure.

I do feel bad for people that had tickets to go..... I know
how much fun his shows are.....
and I know how dissappointing it can be to have one canceled.
BUT..... OTHER artists cancel shows too.
it is NOT unheard of~~
It happens all the time.....

There could be a lot of reasons.. some his.. some not..
Some bad too.....

I am more hoping he is ok and no one close to him or HE is not
sick or didn't get hurt.....

I wish he would announce something so at least you would all
get closer on this.....

He DOES need a web site back

eye am so gutted 4 all U guys. eye truly feel 4 U all. eye know exactly how eye would feel if eye had got tickets - due 2 our wedding next year we decided 2 give it a miss. eye think seeing as Prince claims 2 be such an acute business man he needs 2 have a good explanation 4 this ie. sickness or operation or family matters. Not selling enough tickets is not a reason - that is a business risk he should have taken in2 account when hiring such a huge venue after O2 last year. Unfortunately eye expect nothing less from him these days than 2 attract & reject his fans so often.

Big hugs 2 U all & eye hope he does something really special 4 all those who bought tickets - even if it is in 2009.

Peace,

Im not so sure that he would have sued...
I dont think that was the case in Denmark...
My feeling is..
Honestly...
Do you see the size of Princes show...? Arena shows..
The Symbol stage..the lights..the Movie screens...
The cost of bringing the whole band and crew and gear to Europe and Putting everyone up in hotels ect...
How could ONE gig make that worth Prince's while when he's doing 4 million dollar gigs at festivals in the United States...?
and private parties for rich folks for a couple million dollars..?
It doesn't add up to me..

I guess you get pleasure where you can. Whatever makes you happy. I find it all very weird how fast people go from loving him to hating him. He is not the first to cancel a concert, will not be the last. Welcome to the world people. Nothing is certain in this life. SHIT!

Even though I wasn't going I was really hoping for this to be a success. Prince is such a great musician and performer, he writes history with his music. This sucks!

But I guess this is common: He probably signed a contract in his favor saying that if the concert sold less than a certain amount of tickets by a certain date, he could cancel.... and all marketing would then be up to the promoters... Or what!? How does these things work??

Argh! I hate being a poor loser fan!!!

WTF???!!!???? How the feck can you go cancel a gig with less than a week to go???!!!, its obvious to me the poor ticket sales is the cause of this, the venue too big, but i think blame should be on MCD hands for not promoting the gig enough, Iv only heard radio ads last week and tv adds jsut the other night!!!
Tickets have been on sale for 4 months yet they only really start the whole advertising of it seriously in the last 2 weeks!
Gobshites.

Neway, I dont think Prince will do croke park again and maybe for thebetter, when the Point is finished 20 nites there will suit him better.

Im pissed off but hey what you gota do? duh

I agree. The past few hours have been terrible as the news finally sinks in. I received 30 text messages with people offering commiserations but it appears people don't trust him and perceive him as a freak. I think the 1995 show when unreleased material was mostly played still resonates with many.

I was sooooo pissed off I called MCD to pick a fight, they advised they received fax this morning from P's mgt advising of cancellation. I advised them they had a crap legal framework in place if he could opt out just like that. Clearly they were hiding something and there is more to the story. As I said in earlier posting, there were people on the org who knew and emailed me advising the cancellation would be announced on Monday or Tuesday of this week while we were all soaking up Wolfie's CRAP.

Wheteher Prince had / had not planned to partake in the show is irrelevant, surely a quick update through Dr. Funkenberry ( or what ever the f*** he's name is ) would have sufficed, you cannot dis-associate yourself through silence in the same way as the O2 VIP tix fiasco last year. It is simple appaling and not surprising.

Great quote from someone on org today that said they love the music and dislike the individual, that is how I feel. I realise he is an insincere low life scum bag and understand why there were no 50th celebrations last week, you need friends and family and he has NEITHER. Seriosly can you name one person in past 4 years who said he was a nice person ( not a great musician ), the closest was jay leno in 2004 saying 'nice to c u buddy' Laugh Out Loud.

Next time I choose to attend a show I will but ticket for BIG $$$ on the day from a tout, happy to pay the premium to him and get best seat on the day. In relation to purchasing records in the future, my 5 buddies and I are going to chip in 2 euro each, buy one CD and then copy it 6 times. from now on these are the rules I work toward. lack of respect can work both ways.
Go F*** yourself Prince and enjoy your next in house gig with P Diddy and P. Cruz MUTHA F*****

I know, it's just a concert.
It's like it stood for something. Prince stands for something.
Ethics for one.
I cannot understand how he could allow something like this to happen.
Even if its not his fault, even if it's something that couldn't be avoided

LET US KNOW WHAT HAPPENED. WE SUPPORT YOU THROUGH THICK AND THIN. WE ARE NOT JUST WORDS ON A COMPUTER!

We all rooted him on.
I hated the PFU thing and all it stood for. I thought about what he must be going through and how honerable and brave he was being.
I defended him for the last year and now I'm actually completely gutted.
(now I know why that word is used. Feels like a knife has scooped out my insides). Feel like my heart is broken.
