Oh come on..some posts on here are way over the top.

I should be in Dublin right now and am absolutely gutted and yes, I'd like to know why it's been cancelled but it isn't going to change the fact he isn't going to be there tomorrow night. It won't get me the flight and hotel money that I've lost either. I could have gone to Dublin anyway but really didn't want to go knowing why I should be there.

I went to several 02 shows and loved everyone, I was lucky not to caught up in the whole VIP ticket thing and I can understand why people were annoyed about that - but didn't everyone get money back and/or more tickets? I went to 02 aftershows and he decided not to go to any of the ones that I did, and yes I was again absolutely gutted - my chance to see Prince in a small venue gone - but I understood it was the luck of the draw.

I know that the minute he releases tickets for another gig I'll be there snapping up my tickets - if he ever does that is.

I would like to know. Cause if the reason is 'didn't really feel like it' I wouldn't buy tickets again
the minute he releases tickets for another gig

Yeah, I can understand that. I just think some of the posts are way over the top - from what I remember I don't think I thought yours were.

I've been reading them since Wed when I found out - in fact, reading these was how I found out - and they have calmed down a lot. Suppose it's just people letting their frustration out.

Think so. Oh, I didn't feel offended at all, that's why I just reacted on the 'no statement; whatever'-part.

I've not posetd for ages and actually haev only just realised that this has been cancelled. To all you folks who had tickets and what have you I'm erally gutted for you. Unless there is a very good reason for this I must say that this is no surprise to me.

I am one of the negative ones towards Prince nowadays and this justifies that opinion fully I think (unless of course the reason is an acceptable one).

Again, sorry to all those who've been messed about.

I wouldn't say it should have been luck of the draw for the aftershows, Prince sold tickets at £25+fee's for the aftershows, so he should play them, if he didn't want to play at 21 aftershows, don't sell tickets for them, sell 5 if you only want to play 5, it should not have been luck of the draw. If I buy a ticket for a show for £25, its normal for the artist to turn up and perform !! the problem is he doesn't normally sell aftershow tickets, I bought mine as soon as they went on sale, it should have said on the booking details/ad that Prince may not appear or perform at these shows.... then again, if it did, would they sell 2000 tickets a night ????

As for the VIP, lots of people haven't got refunds, and the tickets they offerred in compensation were very poor, mainly in the O2 upper tier, worth £31.21 when people had paid £250 for VIP.

My posts are mainly in response to people saying fans are making too much of this, Prince is entitled to do what he likes etc, well, too me he isn't, I still love the music, I love the gigs, but I won't attend another Prince gig unless it is convenient/local to me, Prince needs to realise his fans from the 80's & 90's have young families and major commitments, we can't just drop everything to attend his gigs and accept he cancels on a whim without explanation, then just pick up the pieces ready for the next gig he may turn up at ...

I know the minute he releases tickets I will be very careful on if I buy or not, like I was for Dublin and I never bought them, I feel sorry for everyone who did, I hope they learn from that and consider carefully before making a big commitment to see him again, as there are no guarantee's with him.

Not making excuses for Prince or anything but I remember there being a disclaimer on the Ticketmaster website that Prince is not guaranteed to play at all aftershows. Still, I would be dissappointed if he did not show up.

Again, I feel really bad for everyone. I think this is definately a lesson that unless an official statement is made by Prince and NPG, even with tickets sold, that everyone will stay clear of buying tickets, flights, hotels, etc. An official announcement was made for Musicology, 3121, Tamar shows, O2. This whole Croke Park thing seemed weird but again, tickets were sold, which makes the whole situation seem perplexing.

With great hopes, Prince will see the need for an official website, just to keep fans informed of what is official and confirmed.

Not really, Neil Diamond is playing over in American an everywhre else on his tour, so in Crokeer this saturday for his show it will be mostly Irish.

BUT.

I am over it, I have fingers crossed for an 09 show.

I just want a proper answer, that's all.

fair enough and i think the fans deserve an answer as to why this was canceled at such short notice but if prince came out and made a statement that he was not well and wouldnt be right in time for the gig, would most on here settle for
that i dont think they would imho smile

No, they would not settle for it NOW, fair enough if he had made a statement on the first day, but if he was to come out with any kind of statement NOW fans would still be pissed off, why give a statement a week later when it should have been done on the first day, whatever the reason illness etc.

His personal life is nothing to do with us, he's entitled to have as many parties as he wants. I just love his music, and want him to continue making it.

Prince is entitled to a personal life and what he does in it is upto him, but he is in the spotlight all the time, when he throws these partys in LA for his celeb friends and plays gigs in his house, he knows/wants the press will report it, thats all fine when things are going well, but a few weeks later when you cancel a gig at the last minute for 55,000 fans who have spent lots of time and money on him, it understandably piss*s them off.

I was at the O2 in VIP stuck behind a drumkit for £250 each ticket on the 11/08, I had tickets for the aftershow, I turned up with 2,000 fans and queued up from 11pm till 1am, for the Indigo2 staff then to come down the line saying Prince wasn't playing and there was no entertainment gonna be put on for a £25 aftershow, coz he decided he had more important things to do than entertain 2,000 fans who queued up and paid good money, apparently he was out on the town with P diddy who had turned up for the main show. On top of that, its 1am at the O2, no tubes, so I had to pay £40 for a cab after a 1 hour wait to get back to my hotel, if they would have told us before midnight he had gone off partying, we could have just got the tube back to wherever we were all going, that shows you how much consideration he gives 4 his fans ....

I didn't buy tickets for Croke Park as I was still seethig over the VIP and aftershow fiasco at the O2, I figured I was not going to have him take the p*ss after being a fan for 25 years and going to god knows how many gigs, maybe more fans will now vote with their money ....

MMMmmmmm I see what you mean I am sorry about what happened there i would have pissed off too. You have been a fan alot longer than me I have been a fan since i saw him at the 02 and i suppose I see him a different light.Obviousley you seem to know more about him, I joined this site to find out more about his music NOT his personal life, there seems to be to many discussions on here about that, and i think its a bit out of order, I am not sure if other fan sites get involved like that (other artists) but i just think it's going over the top sometimes, and thats when fans become obsessed, that why I mentioned the parties He's been having lately, they took place a few weeks ago. IF say for example we read in the press he is having a big party in LA on monday then fans have every right to be angry. I did'nt buy any tickets for croke, but I still think somebody should come out with a more informed statement, having said that, if they do that now I think it will make matters worse coz they should have come out with a proper statement earlier.

i found this on housequake, it may answer some questions for some people....

OK, here's what I can tell you.

However before I start, please be assured that at no time are we being "elitist", "playing games", "only giving half the story" or any other phrases that could be ended with the word "arseholes". As many of you now realise, we posted the information about Dublin being off some time ago purely in the best interests of all fans, not just HQ based ones.

Yes we do get information from a very reliable source now (no, not THAT one) and please understand that we cannot name names and at times have to only give out certain points, again though for the best interest of the fans. We all (the mod team, Aaron included) do this purely in our spare time, receive no payment, no favours, and expect nothing in return other than sheer courtesy.

That said, I thought I'd share with you what I know and what I believe regarding some of the reasoning behind the Croke Park cancellation.

As you know, there was originally supposed to be a European Stadium Tour this summer that incorporated dates in Holland, Milan, Denmark and Dublin. An agency were booked to liaise with local promoters and dates were tentatively lined up, however it turns out there was a scheduling conflict between the two agents who book events for Prince and he could not commit to the tour and asked sales to stop.

Whilst the promoters for Milan, Denmark and Holland respected that request, it seems that the local promoter in Dublin, MCD, went ahead and put tickets on sale in the hope that this could force Prince's hand into playing the gig. MCD have now vehemently denied this is the case and have even offered to prove that ticket sales were signed off and authorised to go ahead

Prince subsequently was faced with another commitment and again requested that Dublin be taken off sale. In fact once it was known that the tour was not going ahead, we ourselves sent some pretty blunt messages to NPG base camp pointing out what was best for the fans. It should be made clear that Prince himself took a great deal of interest in stopping sales, however we were informed that MCD did not take this step. MCD themselves have informed us however that they were only aware that Prince was planning to cancel as of Friday 6th June and did not agree the cancellation until very late on Monday 9th June

Once it became very clear that the whole Dublin situation was a mess, Prince tried to look at moving things around in order to save the date, however it proved logistically impossible.

Looking at the whole situation, my personal opinion is that things could have been handled better on Prince's side, however the vast majority of the blame has to go to MCD. As "Rsp" wisely pointed out in the cancellation thread, Prince is contractually bound with regards to ticket sales and cannot publicly speak out without facing legal action so he was in a difficult position until it could be officially cancelled.

As I'm sure you appreciate, I've "broken cover" a little on sharing this information as, yet again, I think it's what's best for the fans, however for once I'm in the unusual step of defending Prince. I've been on the receiving end of cancelled gigs myself (I still haven't got over not seeing the 1999 tour in London !) and know how the easiest thing to do is blame the guy himself but please take the time to digest my ramblings above and think about how this has all played out and who anger and disappointment should be directed at.

I hope this all makes sense and once again, please be aware that this is sensitive material, some of which has come from reliable sources and some of which is my personal opinion based upon the evidence I have to hand. If MCD or any other parties feel aggrieved at what is posted here then please feel free to take it up with me personally.

I hope this all makes sense and once again, please be aware that this is sensitive material, some of which has come from reliable sources and some of which is my personal opinion based upon the evidence I have to hand. If MCD or any other parties feel aggrieved at what is posted here then please feel free to take it up with me personally.

I Think most of us have read this.

It doesn't answer any questions because it's NOT OFFICIAL! - and even though it makes sense it just poses the question "Why didn't Prince tell MCD a month ago that he wouldn't be playing?" - when a lot of fans would have had a better chance to get money back from Hotel's (if not airlines)

MCD's statement is backed up by the fact that Prince gave them video and audio material for advertisements. An argument could be made that the poster design was the same as o2's promo material so that could have been grabbed from AEG but there's no way they could get the video and audio stuff without Prince's ok.

A lot of people are using this mess to highlight the lack of an official Prince website and that he has seemingly turned his back his fans. People are hurt by this not just because Prince wouldn't play his show but because Prince's last minute decision has cost them A LOT of money. They'd like an answer from Prince as to why it happened.

Granted, a lot of people wouldn't be happy with whatever excuse is given but this cancellation comes on the back of his not turning up to many an o2 aftershow because he simply wasn't bothered playing.

I think a lot of fans are rightfully questioning their devotion to him.
