Paul Anka Claims 'This is It' is a Rip-Off
Posted Oct 12th 2009 4:58PM by TMZ Staff
http://www.tmz.com/catego...l-jackson/

If you think Michael Jackson's "This Is It" sounds familiar, it's because the song is a rip-off that was released nearly two decades ago by another artist ... and the man making this claim is none other than music legend Paul Anka.

Anka tells TMZ in 1983, he wrote a song with Jackson called "I Never Heard" -- and the demo of the song was recorded in Anka's studio in Carmel, CA. Anka says he took the tape to a studio in Hollywood to put the finishing touches on it for Anka's duets album, "Walk a Fine Line." Anka claims Jackson -- who was just blowing up at the time with "Thriller" -- got a big head and "stole the tapes" from the studio.

Anka tells us he called the lawyers who repped both he and Jackson -- ironically one of them was John Branca -- and threatened them with a lawsuit if he didn't get the tapes back. Anka got them back but insists Jackson made a copy of the tapes and used the track with his voice from "I Never Heard" -- and simply retitled it, "This is It."

Anka gave "I Never Heard" to another artist -- Safire -- who recorded it in 1990.

We called Sony Music who released "This Is It" ... no comment so far.

Anka tells us he's talking with his lawyers about his legal options.

Pile of crap.....its TMZ guys disbelief

Plus..

Now noitce how the article is foolishly written....its dumb...

at the beginning of the article it says that Jackson wrote the song with anka in 1983 , then he said that Mj stole the tapes, how can Mj can be theif when they worked together on the track...

since Mj worked with him on it , he deserves to record it.

excuse me .. it's certain era's that i like more is that such a big deal. When I became a hardcore fan it was during the invincible era so the era;'s must not have made a difference right , I can do a list and most of the songs on that list are from off the wall to bad that's why i say this so don't put me in the type section i became a fan when most of the world didn't care about him no more when he was wacko jacko etc and all the other negative stuff and that didn't stop me from listening to him now everybody loves him it pisses me off

no it's not that at all. it's your tone. the fact when you comment on mj threads as well with other old school mj fans, you guys act like the era you like is the best and if somethin likes michael's music/concerts/dancing/music videos post-thriller era, then you must be crazy and a crazy mj floon. I love Michael's music from the time he recorded his first record with baby boy to Jackson Five/Jacksons to butterflies to the way that you love me. It doesn't make me or any other mj fan any less of a fan or crazy either if I or other mj fans love his music post thriller. I appreciate and like most of his music as the same goes for other mj fans. There is nothing wrong with that. And there is nothing wrong with liking a specific era and time frame of his music. However, this attitude as I said earlier from some mj fans that feel that their era(usually anything before bad era) is the best and if you don't like it then you must be crazy is the problem. The air of snobbyness that some mj fans especially old school fans is apalling.

Paul Anka Claims 'This is It' is a Rip-Off
Posted Oct 12th 2009 4:58PM by TMZ Staff

If you think Michael Jackson's "This Is It" sounds familiar, it's because the song is a rip-off that was released nearly two decades ago by another artist ... and the man making this claim is none other than music legend Paul Anka.

Anka tells TMZ in 1983, he wrote a song with Jackson called "I Never Heard" -- and the demo of the song was recorded in Anka's studio in Carmel, CA. Anka says he took the tape to a studio in Hollywood to put the finishing touches on it for Anka's duets album, "Walk a Fine Line." Anka tells us he called the lawyers who repped both he and Jackson -- ironically one of them was John Branca -- and threatened them with a lawsuit if he didn't get the tapes back. Anka got them back but insists Jackson made a copy of the tapes and used the track with his voice from "I Never Heard" -- and simply retitled it, "This is It."

Anka gave "I Never Heard" to another artist -- Safire -- who recorded it in 1990.

So, Paul Anka reveiled the song was written in 1983, NOT 1980, Jay.

I assume MJs vocals are from 1983, he sounds the same at the Love Never Felt So Good demo.

I was raise on janet so I don't know how old school you would considered me , I didn't get into michael till later on which was the invicible era so i must not be that old school right I got hooked when I heard butterlies. There's nothing wrong with liking the music past bad I prefer keyword prefer the off the wall stuff more because i like most of the songs fron those era's and I wasn't born during those era's either. I love him for his dancing too so isn't the dancing stuff past off the wall confused Nobody is coming in here saying you should choosethis era over that era it's what I like I don't sense no snobbyness so don't know what you talking about i'm not one of those fans that all of a sudden starting loving MJ if I was so anti new school MJ I would have not became a fan period so whatever you considered type i'm not in that section just to let you know smh

i can't speak for someone else but i think they mean the same they love michael as a whole, and since his passing i think we all feel a bit emotional about it all.
